The HMIC!!
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southwestern Athletic Conference released its 2014 SWAC Preseason Teams with quarterback Ben Anderson (Arkansas-Pine Bluff), and linebacker Kourtney Berry (Alabama State) headlining the list.

The announcement was made during the 2014 SWAC Football Media Day after ballots were completed by the league’s head coaches, sports information directors, and selected national media members. Twenty-five players were named to this year’s preseason teams as a result of receiving 2013 All SWAC honors. In the event that a player was named to the first team during the post season, and does not return, the second team player for that position was elevated to the first team. Players were ranked in their position based on the number of votes received.

....

For the predicted order of finish in both divisions, the defending champion Southern Jaguars totaled 95 votes including eight first place votes to become the preseason favorite out of the West Division. Prairie View A&M followed with 88 points, Arkansas-Pine Bluff gathered 66 points, with Texas Southern (50) and Grambling State (31) closing the divison's preseason ranking.

In the East Division, Alabama State totaled 93 points with 10 first-place votes. Alcorn State received 91 points followed by Jackson State (72), Mississippi Valley State (40) and Alabama A&M (34).

This is by far the fastest I ever witnessed an offseason fly.

Yes, It does seem like it has passed by faster than normal. Perhaps the gap that the soccer World Cup filled after pro basketball and college baseball season ended for me may have made it feel that way.

Let the cornballs hate.

I think PV should be #1 in the WEST because they will have a killer offense and SU does not even have a QB... but I can see why they gave first to SU. PV still has to prove they can stop a ball from rolling uphill..

Explain to me how Alabama State is picked to finish first every year? Isnt this suppose to be Alcorns year. Alabama State has 2 good players. #32 and #95...other than that their players are average or below. Their QB DBs and WRs are below average, their RB is average, their line is average, yet every year they are picked #1.

I shoulda known they were picked first since MigtyHOrnet started the thread. He dont come around until good news happens. Cant get him to answer none of my questions.

Is that why we don't see him as much these days?

Kudos to Kourtney Berry, a player who overcame a serious knee injury his senior year of high school. He rehabbed for 2 yrs before walking on to the team and changing from safety to linebacker. He's smart and determined.

I like BAMA State being picked first. JSU needs another real rival with potential. Our players are only concerned with winning the SWAC. The EAST is simply not good enough anymore and I am sure they will play like it. After we cut the head off the Ratts, the rest of you will be shaking in your boots!

Yeah but its time for the SWAC folks to give Alcorn some praise. They have been running their mouths so give them something to feel good about. Alcorn will get that ass kicked by BamaState and A&M as usual, but at least give them the preseason nod. This aint about JSU, we know what to expect this year, but Alcorn should get some shine.

I detect some racism against their white coach.....lets march

Didn't you say the new offense at JSU would be complicated because your OC is Chinese?

So my man Ryan Griffin and that kid from SU (#23), two of the best defenders in the SWAC, didnt make all SWAC huh?
