Cochran Asking Blacks to Rescue Him in Republican Primary

JACKSON, Miss. — Bishop Ronnie C. Crudup stood before roughly a dozen of his colleagues at a weekly Baptist fellowship meeting last week and asked for their help in a fight that, until now, would have been unthinkable for a black pastor in Mississippi: “Let’s send Senator Thad Cochran back to Washington,” he urged.

That Senator Cochran is a Republican and African-Americans here are overwhelmingly Democratic did not go unmentioned. But, Mr. Crudup noted with a wry smile, “in tough times, you’ve got to do some unusual things.”

And if that meant supporting Mr. Cochran against State Senator Chris McDaniel in a Republican runoff on Tuesday, it was worth the risk. Mr. Cochran had helped Mississippi’s blacks during his six terms, Mr. Crudup said, and it was now time to repay him with their support in the political fight of his life, especially against an opponent who was known to have made racially insensitive remarks when he was a talk-show host.

Well, truth is, for black people, he is a much better option than his opponent. Cochran has been a JSU supporter I believe.
 



To me, all political races come down to choosing the lesser of two evils. I'm disgusted with American politics on both sides of the aisle.

This Chris McDaniel character has been making some ridiculous statements lately. Talking about turning down federal monies for education ... IN MISSISSIPPI! The least educated and lowest performing state in the nation ... and this clown doesn't want federal money for education. :|

It's not so much that Thad Cochran has been good to Black people. He's just a better choice than Chris McDaniel. Chris McDaniel is an extreme version of the obstructionist, anti-Obama mindset that has polluted Congress and this country. They would rather do nothing or even harm the country than to work with Obama to get anything accomplished for the good of the nation.

I wouldn't be surprised if McDaniel won though. Mississippi is that backwards and they are more than willing to cut off their noses to spite their face.

Your father is a smart man.

These white folks in the South have lost their minds. The Republican Party is taking note of the race in Mississippi and noting the extreme stances Republican politicians are taking to garner votes. One Republican talking about race in Mississippi called the Chris McDaniel supporters "Mississippians voting against themselves". Even the Republican Party knows how ridiculous some of these stances are and what it says about the political future of their party.

Like I said before, I wouldn't be surprised if McDaniel won though. Mississippians are that stupid.

True............JSU supporter as he is for all colleges in the state. But for everyday people in this area, your a non-person if your not on the REP side 100% of the time on the issues. He don't do shat for Jackson just like the rest of them. Let the Gulf Coast re-elect him. Truth is black people around here don't GAS about this election because it is not going to make one bit of difference to the people around here in this blood red REPUB party state. On one had, it's F'ed if Cochran get in and F'ed if the other guy get in.

I don't buy into that "lesser of two eveils" stuff. If both are F'ed up, I don't bother to waste my time on election day. In this election, both are F'ed in my view so I'll let the other voters send one of these fools to Washington.

Chris McDaniel is the typical Tea Party candidate. It's same old "repeal OBAMACARE" 100 percent of the time, and not one hint of him even looking in the black community way.

Funniest thing of all, I'll bet nobody can name me one DEMO candidate right off the top of your head without a net search. I live here and can not tell you the name of one DEMO candidate that is even thinking about running.

The Majority voting block, WHITE REPUBS, are that stupid. The majority of the idiots that follow the Repub party in this state are 9 to 5 working stiff's barely making it, but as long as they can yell REPUB and OBAMA BAD, these fools are as happy as a hog in slop no matter how bad they got it on a personal level at home.

They still hold at least a 56% to 44% voting numbers edge in this state. That is down from a 68% REPUB voting majority from 2004.

What about the Black people who refuse to oppose such ignorance when they have a chance?

I'm not saying Thad Cochran is good, but you have a clown talking about turning down all federal money. Not just money for education. ALL federal money. In the state that - according to this site - depends the most on federal money. The state that needs it more than any other. :noidea:

Actually Childers (the dem) is not a bad candidate. If Mcdaniels win, he will get a big boost in support from the national party.

In the end, you can protest and oppose all you want. When the MAJORITY have a 56% to mid 40% voting number block against you, not a dam thing you can do in the end until some of these old fossils and dyed in the wool good ole boy repubs are gone. Not like people have not voiced opinions against them.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens if McDaniel wins. Will Thad's supporters cross the aisle and support Childers or will they stick to the Republican candidate?
 
Any DEMO running for a seat in Washington that is not named Bennie Thompson will get the breaks beat off them in a election in Mississippi. :lol:

The DEMO party in this state don't know the first thing about grooming or putting the name of a real candidate out in the public view. These people have been fooled by REPUBS running and winning as DEMOs so many times, it is a running joke about how long it will take a newly elected Demo state Legislature to come out and say they switching to the REPUB party.

The DEMO party may as well not exist in this state outside the city and county level.
 
If the numbers are 56% Republican and 44% Democrat, then wouldn't getting 10% net of Republican voters to vote for Childers swing the race? It might not take a lot of them, 10 - 15%. Some folks on another site say Childers is a good ol' boy too. Wolf in sheep's clothing. Democrat in name only. If that's true, then it could be a toss up.

That 43% includes those "younger voters" from white and traditional repub families that for whatever reason, don't vote REPUB. The TRUE MINORITY population of Mississippi is about 36%. The highest percentage the "minority" or DEMO votes this state has got was back in 2008 when OBAMA was elected the first time with around 46% going to OBAMA. That was the first time REPUBS didn't get over 60% of the vote in this state in an election for a National office.

Don't matter.
He will beat the breaks off any DEMO candidate running against him. THIS was the election. HINDS COUNTY, black people, put Cochran over the top in this one. I guess those comercials worked. He won HINDS COUNTY by something like 17,000 to 4,000 I think.

Chris McDaniel and the Mississippi Tea Party really hate Jackson now. :lol:
He looked like he could chew bricks talking about how Cochran compromised and got elected by liberal Democrat's. :lol:

Those idiots were talking about writing McDaniel in. Y'all need some instigators. Somebody to encourage these people to try to write in Chris McDaniel. Splitting the Republican vote would only give the Democratic candidate a better chance to win. These people are dumb and they are followers. They have proven that they would do something self-destructive if they thought the other racists were doing it too.

Education is the enemy of conservatism. Conservatism is euphemism for maintaining power within a small class of people. Folks like McDaniels are tools for those people. Cochran is probably one of those people.

Cochran has never turned down money for the schools in this state. That idiot Mcdanials wanted to cut off Federal funding for education in Mississippi so that the FED's "would not have a hand in Mississippi Education............COMMON CORE".

He is literally one of those fools that would shoot his foot off if you told him putting one foot in front of the other will take you places. You know a person is a fool when traditional Mississippi Repubs don't want to follow you. :smh:
