Could Grambling be replaced in Bayou Classic?

Re: Grambling be replaced in Bayou Classic

You are looking at the bottom line too much. I'm not saying totally getting rid of the bayou classic. It can be moved to another date. Why not the week before thanksgiving? Anyway, the amount of exposure a SWAC team would get which would directly effect recruiting would pay for itself in expenses to play in the playoffs. It would give the opportunity to field better teams, which would be able to preform better against bigger opponents, which would bring in even better recruits, which would bring in more attendance. So on and so on with my runon. Who cares how many fans attend if its an away game. The away team isn't making any money off of the game. Plus teams have to bid to get a homegame in FCS playoffs. The money that each school send to the SWAC for the SCG can easily be money to bid for a homegame for FCS.
Kid you are clueless and before making statements, you need to do some research.

Re: Grambling be replaced in Bayou Classic

Let's have a honesty moment, if SU won a championship in 2011 and followed it with 2 1-10 seasons coming into the Classic, how many SU fans would make the walk into the Superdome against a championship caliber Grambling?

Re: Grambling be replaced in Bayou Classic

When I hear "Bayou Classic" I think of Louisiana schools.....sounds like a scare tactic to me. Move the game earlier and then all the folks who have "play-off dreams" can finally stop whining. If they change the teams that will participate in this classic then just scrap the name altogether.

That would be one benefit of us moving it for sure. Folks can stop blaming us for the SWAC not participating.

Re: Grambling be replaced in Bayou Classic

Who living off Eddie Robinson? We have won 6 Championships since he retired, and Bruno is a friend of Tony Clayton. Grambling has had a couple of bad seasons and it's our fault the Classic attendance is down? What about the years we won 4 straight and SU fans stop showing up as strongly? It's like kicking a hurt dog, but we gonna regain our strength and bit back. PAY ATTENTION TO THIS, THE SUNBELT IS LOOKING FOR A 12th MEMBER, SO THEY CAN START HAVING A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. THE SUNBELT HEADQUARTERS IS IN NOLA, BETWEEN THE SAINTS, LHSAA AND BAYOU CLASSIC, WHICH GAME IS EASIER TO MOVE? THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ATTENDANCE.

The Bayou Classic and Sun Belt Championship wouldn't be on the same date. Conference Championships are all in the 1st weekend in December. Besides, only UL-Lafayette would really contribute a large crowd to that game, and those fans wouldn't really be staying in New Orleans for an entire weekend like we do for the Bayou Classic. The LHSAA championships would be the easiest to move, you just give teams a bye week before the championship game, or make the regular season 11 weeks(10 games and 1 bye), and problem solved. Also, don't forget Tulane's stadium could be used too.

Are you kidding?! Tulane folks don't want yall in their brand new building. Simply put, Grambling folks need to attend the game more than they are and quit depending on su to foot seventy percent of the crowd.

the Bayou Classic is made to be played inside. He was talking about the other events using that venue.

Reread my statement. I was saying the LHSAA Championships could be played in Tulane Stadium, not the Bayou Classic.

Re: Grambling be replaced in Bayou Classic

Or a combination of a loss in attendance (revenue) and an increase in expenses. Like an increase in the rental fee of the dome and other associated expenses. Which will probably be on the table when the new contract is negotiated next year. ;)

Hmmm. Maybe this "rent collector" might have a little more influence on things than some thought ....

I think the rental fee is underwritten by a sponsor (not sure but vaguely remember reading something like that). Surely you don't think all of those sponsors don't defray that cost to have their name attached to the event.

The attendance was on the rise before SU's program took a hit, and the attendance has increased the past 2 seasons.

Superdome managers are now clarifying their earlier statements about Grambling's future in the classic.

"Commissioner Bruno essentially was saying, guys lets refocus our attention on the Bayou Classic and lets dedicate our resources to do everything we possibly can to make this event successful," said Superdome GM Alan Freeman.

He also said the classic is truly one of the great traditions in college football.

"There's never, ever been any consideration of changing the match-up for this game," said Freeman. "As a matter of fact, you would be crazy to so because over the 40-year history, their 20 and 20."

"It's not a lack of interest," said Malbrew. "If that was the case, NBC would not have renewed this tradition for several more years."

Re: Grambling be replaced in Bayou Classic

Bs. New Orleans was packed last Bayou Classic. BC has a younger crowd. Essence has the older crowd.

I will beg to differ. It is a mixture but also depends on the line up. The line up this year, I don't want to see that bs and I am 22. BC is a mixture, and the young folks under 25 say they don't care for it no more like they use to however last year when I came back to BR after the game, BR was DEAD. Everybody was in NO. Most people go walk on Bourbon after the game. If both teams having a winning record, no questions ask, it will be 60k. Young or old!

Y'all are so gullible. Let's take a look at a few statements from the Superdome officials.

First statement by Robert Bruno:

"Before it gets so bad that you've got 10,000 people there and State Farm doesn't want to be involved in it and it becomes nothing, maybe you ought to think about maybe either you earn your way in through something else, bring another school in that's willing to guarantee a certain number of tickets sales or whatever," Bruno said.

Second statement by Doug Thorthon:

"We have seen a drop in the attendance and we would love to try and see it get back to where it was in the beginning, 65,000, 70,000 people attending here instead of 35,000 to 40,000," said Superdome/SMG VP Doug Thornton.

Third statement by Alan Freeman:

"Commissioner Bruno essentially was saying, guys lets refocus our attention on the Bayou Classic and lets dedicate our resources to do everything we possibly can to make this event successful," said Superdome GM Alan Freeman.

If you all don't think they are essentially saying the same thing, you're a bunch of idiots. Of course, they would rather "dedicate our resources to do everything we possibly can to make this event successful" with Grambling first. But, it should be obvious to anyone that they don't think it's as successful as it should or could be. What do they mean by "successful"? Financially successful. Don't be stupid.

The comments from the Grambling folks are hilarious to me.

Former Grambling quarterback Ricardo Malbrew said the Bayou Classic is not about money or ticket sales.

Wow. Really? Never been about money? I guess Grambling would be willing to go without their payout then. Since it's not about money.

Pogue also said, “There is no discussion to change this historic matchup, and there are no plans to change this annual challenge in any way.â€￾

Some folks are concerned about attendance. Want to do whatever they "possibly can to make the event successful". Which means change. In order to improve anything you have to change. But, the illustrious President of Grambling says there will by noooooo changes IN ANY WAY. And y'all are satisfied.

:shame:

This is my favorite quote

"Never did you hear Coach Eddie Robinson say during Southern's down years, Southern is not good enough for us to play," said Malbrew. "That never happened. Don't disrespect the legend that has been built. Don't disrespect these players that have gone through this game."

:emlaugh: Hell they never had to be concern about us holding up our end.

Ol' Frank Pogue said there will be NO CHANGES. IN ANY WAY.

See, this is the type of lack of leadership, lack of foresight and lack of initiative that will have you begging for Muscle Milk. Keep thinking y'all are going to just keep doing the same things the same way if you want to. Going to end up outside begging again.

Talking about it's not about money as bad as they need the money from this game.
