SWAC 2014 Baseball Championship

As quiet as it was kept, jsu had a 30 win season. Their conference record was deceptive and actually won several decent non conference games. Bama State finished at 37-20 and jsu finised at 31-23. Really overall, it wasn't that big of a difference. However, Bama State won a couple of marquee matchups that caught folks attention (Miami & Auburn).

A lot of those wins were against lower division and small black colleges. A&M and Bama State played schedules against non-black colleges that have had good programs for years. Both teams were competitive in the occ schedule. By all logic, Bama State should have won the championship, with A&M right behind them.. But, Bama State constantly displays the ability to lose the big game.

Re: JACKSON STATE 2014 SWAC Baseball Champs

me either :smh::retard:

enjoy your last championship for awhile Jsu. The takeover will be complete next season.

THERE he is!!! Hahahahahahaha!! Remember MH, for the last two years, Bama State folks said the same thing about football.

Fact of the matter is I'm glad yall didn't win cause it would give your coach more incentive NOT to recruit more talented Black players in and around the Montgomery area.
I'mma start calling Bama State baseball the University of Puerto Rico at Montgomery.

Man, AAMU was decent in regular season ball and after that first win in the tournament, nevertheless JSU beat them when it counted most with experience and talent.

Omar outcoached the arrogant Melendez once again in the big game just like Comegy outcoached Barlow for two straight years.
He had them prepared to play their best ball at the right time.

That may have helped but the White man didn't swing the bat, make a pitch or catch a ball.

Im just joking bruh... calm down.. Congrats on your championship ... you deserved it!

I said that earlier.... I respect JSU because they are winning with a mostly African American squad.... that didn't work out for us, so we will have to ride with our "very" light skinned brothers LOL

Re: JACKSON STATE 2014 SWAC Baseball Champs

I really hope we can have a better regular season next year. I hope that we are prepared to support the team financially to the fullest.

No need to do that or to start that type of name calling. The Bama State coach has offered black players from the Montgomery area. One was a freshman this year, but was down on the dept chart. The coach also offered a scholarship to the son of my high school classmate...the kid plays for Spanish Fort High School, a major powerhouse, and he chose to sign with Samford instead of waiting on Auburn's final offer.

Well, stop sending those Philly cheesedogs to the athletic department and send more Benjamin Franklins...Lol...

There was some internal stuff going on that we aren't sure what it was. It was the same team from last year and they just fell off all of a sudden. I'm just glad they decided to play ball in the tourney.

And if any of y'all think JSU is just gonna just let y'all have this title, you better think again.

(can't believe Oracle said who "should have been" in the title game and who should have been right behind them)

At the end of the day, I'd rather see a 30 win program represent the conference than 1 that has a losing record. Bama Yes, A&M no.........All of that is a moot point though. jsu won when it counted and is Your two time defending SWAC Baseball Champions. The division is only a consolation prize. The real prize is winning the conference championship.

That team does not have the minds of champions yet. I am sure JSU was not feeling good about a #4 seed. That might be the lowest seed in JSU history.

Well, jsu beat two 30 win out of conference opponents during the regular season (Nicholls and SE Louisiana) and beat the MEAC Southern Division Champs. I couldn't tell you anything about the mind set during the regular season. It sure looks like they got more excited about out of conference foes though. :emlaugh:

I hope we don't go that way next year to get 30 wins...We should continue to play a schedule like we had, plus add three or four more tough teams to the list. Maybe next year we will be good enough to punch through that excitement.

JSU had a very sensible schedule. SE Louisiana, Louisiana Monroe, Nicholls, FAMU, South Dakota State (at home), South Alabama & Savannah State. Remember baseball is a non revenue sports. Perhaps they could have scheduled 1 or 2 power conference teams in the area (ULL, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss to choose from). However IMHO, the schedule was decent. Hell S.U. played ULL & LSU and didn't make it to the SWAC Tourney. :emlaugh:

(BTW, Bama State was swept by FAMU and split with S. Alabama two like out of conference foes with jsu)

Bama A&M went 1-3 against S. Dakota State and jsu split against S. Dakota State

What name-calling? Melendez has a pipeline of players from Puerto Rico. It was like that when he was at Bethune Cookman as well.
Melendez' reputation of doing this goes before him. I've seen it first hand. Seems like just because he offered scholarships to one or two Blacks, that lets him off the hook in your eyes?
