The Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament will be played at either Lee-Hines Field on the Southern campus or at the MLB Youth Academy in New Orleans.

Grambling coach James Cooper, chairman of the SWAC coaches committee, confirmed the potential sites after his team’s 16-7 victory against Southern on Sunday at Lee-Hines Filed.


Cooper visited LaGraves Field in Fort Worth, Texas, the planned site for the tournament, last week and said Sunday that there are safety issues that can’t be resolved in time for the tournament, which begins May 14. Those concerns include an uneven playing surface, nails sticking out of the outfield fence and a lack of drainage in the dugouts.

Positive for SWAC tournament re: NOLA MLBUYA field is the turf situation. It'd be rough for the game operations crew in just about every other aspect, especially for radio/TV purposes amongst other typical things. Small press box. Not the most ideal arrangement.

Then again, we're comparing to Lee-Hines Field... Barrow at least has a completely covered press area and you don't have to worry about sunburns on the back of your neck. Probably would draw better in Baton Rouge, even with Southern out... right?

They would have to do some things to Fair Ground Fields, the City is trying to see what they are going to do with it. Since the Shreveport Captains left the baseball field hasn't been taken care of.

If you want a press box and the newest baseball facility, then just have it at Prairie View A&M

It would be kind of embarassing to have the tournament on the home field of a team whose not even eligible.:emlaugh:

Why? Then no one can say home field advantage. Neutral field definitely.

yea last time it was in Shreveport, bird poop and candy were all over the seats.

We have been playing here the last few weeks but had the Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony this past saturday.

They need to host this thing at Wesley Barrow in New Orleans. If not there, then on the Lakefront at Privateer Park.

Well just move it to Grambling, we have a covered grandstand, very nice pressbox, and world-class stadium food. Dorms will be closed, so we can prolly set up a deal to housing players and coaches

Did Gram or PV make a bid. I've been to Gram's stadium, the food sucked :lol: . SU has wings and fries, Jambalaya, barbecue pork steaks, barbeque burgurs, Barbeque hot sausage poboys, and hot dogs. Alot of people come to SU baseball game for stadium foods :lol: . Again the most SUcessful tournaments have been at SU.

Which is why we can't move forward as a conference. It's documented the tournament has been the most SUcessful in BR.
