2014 Strength of Schedule

I don't care how one tries to deny playing an FBS. Lets just say an HBCU team lucks up and catches a team on a very bad day and wins and continues to win in their conference, more than likely they will be high in the polls, some of you people love trying to create your own rules, knowing damn well everyone on the schedule is important even though some may have a big monetary gain.

But why you want to play a team you got to get "lucky" to beat a team when they are having a "very bad day"? :lmao: Makes no sense to me.

If anyone thinks for one minute or second that Coach Hopson is going to go down to USM and not make a statement is a fool. I honestly think myself this game is gonna be an upset. CUSA Loses To SWAC will be the headlines in the paper that Sunday

That's debatable. Ya'll could play Houston, Louisville and Concordia and Southern could play TNState, McNeese, and Youngstown State and I would think that SUs schedule is tougher. Why? Because you already know you have TWO Ls and a built in excuse for losing but SU would be playing teams on their own level and teams they should be able to compete with year in an year out. To me, playing Houston is just as soft as playing Lincoln (MO).

Grambling usually has the tougher schedules based on non conference foe. Even FCS programs like Portland State and McNeese State were ranked in the top 15 FCS rankings when GSU played them. The Houston and Nevada teams that Grambling played both won 12 games and were bowl bound by the mid point of the season. Louisville was the C- USA champions when GSU played them. Oklahoma State....nuff said. Grambling is expected to play Cal and I think Arizona in 2015 and 16.

Grambling plays the better non conference teams second to none. Trust me, it's nothing I parade over, but it's a fact. I have said thousands of times that I would rather play a big money FBS team once every two years and play teams like Morehouse, a MEAC and Southland Conference school every single year. I am not a fan of bending over for cash. I also don't believe that lower division teams get better by getting beat on by major division teams as well. It's fun to test your FCS program out against a FBS program here and there, but only when your are ready.

They don't understand, shouldn't have to explain that to grown dudes. I truly believe that some on here just type to be amazed of their own statements lol

I think Alcorn has a punchers chance as well. USM was horrible last year and even worst the year before. They have had 3 ugly classes as well. Hopson knows that an upset or a close loss will help him get the job at USM next season.

If Alcorn pick ups from where they left off last season, USM may get embarrassed.

Nothing but the truth.............

He never said it would hurt a team, but It would only help them in the rankings. A SWAC team beating a FBS team, along with other SWAC teams beating FCS programs, would add respectability back to our league, and we need strong schedules.

That's why I said playing and losing to an FBS school has no bearing on FCS rankings.

As far as schools playing down to an opponent for budget reasons, a SWAC school doesn't gain much or make much money playing NAIA or D-2 schools. Bama State and Tuskegee might be the exception or a homecoming game.

Ladies and gentlemen of TSPN. Remember, you're entitled to your own opinion but you're not entitled to your own facts.

I rest.

You totally missed my point but carry on....

The ONLY reason the game might not be a 50-0 blowout is that since Hobson went to USM, the school is not gonna want to embarrass him. Ya'll couldn't even stay on the field with Alabama State and you couldn't beat a 4-7 AAMU team at the END of the season but you can beat USM? Again, you all base the success on your WHOLE season becasue you beat a bad SU team and you played a JSU team that wasn't pressed about winning. USM gonna hang a foot up ya'll azz.

It's situations like this that makes the SWAC Championship a joke....

That is why the conference needs to have scheduling guidelines. I stated once before that any team that does not schedule 11 games needs to be fined $25K for each game under 11 that they don't schedule. They should also be fined $25K for playing schools like the University of Faith and Lynchberg. We should be ENCOURAGED by the conference to only play 1-AA schools.

Simple Business 101: Before people buy your product, they must first know your product exists. It costs money to make money right? Louisiana College and Virginia Lynchburg have no name recognition in the HBCU Football world. Just off this fact alone will hurt attendance. Know why? Consumers are smarter in today's time. Information is always readily available at a person's fingertips. They can pull up the school, see it is NAIA, and say," Nah, we will crush them anyway so why waste my money going out there. I'll wait for the USM and SU game". <----See that? NO ball game should ever be wasted. HBCUs do not have the luxury of wasting games. Tickets must bought. What is even worse is that we pay these teams a sum of money just to come play. You'd be better off traveling to Tallahassee, Nashville, Greensboro, etc.

The fact is you are still an HBCU. The name recognition of your opponent can just as much an impact as you as a football team playing at home. JSU was very wise in scheduling FAMU. I seriously doubt they have to pay FAMU a sum of money just to come play. FAMU comes Jackson in 2014. Jackson goes to Tallahassee in 2015. COST Effectiveness works here. Not only that, FAMU has name recognition. That in itself will draw outsiders to come to the game. Yes, Strength of schedule very important. BTW, beating that FBS will not mean damn thing if you have financial losses in TWO HOME GAMES due to teams with no name recognition.

SWAC schools shouldn't be running from FBS teams, it's those games vs. BCS teams I hate!

I can agree with this. For this year, an Alcorn team that won 9 games last year against a USM team that's been the worst D1 team in MS the past 2 years is not the same as what Savannah State has done the past 2 years loading up with top 10 teams. A good SWAC team should be able to hang with an average Sun Belt school for at least a half. Heck JSU hung with MSU for a half.

I guess the reason why some take the for sure SEC money is that if you can get 500-600K from them and clear 75% of that you are good. 250K-300K from a SBC school and barely clearly 150K is not as enticing although you probably stand a better chance of winning

But again why you worried though??? That azz whooping y'all got for whatever excuse you what to make happened months ago....ur sad... seek counseling ASAP.

JSU has a history of hanging with FBS schools. Other schools can't do that.
