All that matters is each schools out of conference games.

Now let's look at who everyone is playing.

Grambling State - Lamar, Univ of Houston, Bethune Cookman.
Southern - ULL, Central Methodist, Northwestern State
Alabama A&M - NCA&T, Tuskegee, UAB
Alabama State - Sam Houston St, Tennessee St, Stillman
Jackson State - Florida A&M, Virginia-Lynchburg, Tennessee St
Alcorn State - Virginia-Lynchburg, Louisiana College, Southern Mississippi
UAPB - Texas State, Concordia (Ala)
MVSU - University of Faith, Illinois St
Prairie View A&M - McNeese St
Texas Southern - Texas College, Central State

FBS - Bold
FCS - Underlined
Other - Red

The only ones that really matter are the ones below. If you playing a team for a check, that is not for SOS.

I think I like AAMU and Alabama State's schedules the most. They scheculed challenging games on THEIR level. ASU has been a consistent program and to challenge themselves vs Sam Houston State and TNState is timely. You never know what to expect from a program like Stilman but I am sure they won't lay down for the Hornets. AAMU scheduled two teams that are solid and will need to bring their A-game to beat but they are playing teams that they CAN beat. That's the key. Playing teams like ULL, USM, etc.. serve no purpose.

Alcorn has the worst schedule. Even tho teams like Valley and TxSo also scheduled down, they needed to. Those teams need wins. I guess Alcorn's focus is just to get to Houston. Nothing else matters. Actually, I don't agree with Valley playing Illinois State but I do recall that they were one of the worst 1-AA programs a few years ago so that may not be so bad for Valley. I don't like JSU playing UVL, but FAMU and TNState are perfect OOC games for a new staff and our expectations. PV vs McNeese could be interesting.

It's not always about SOS. Its about scheduling teams that will let you know where you stand. ADs should schedule SMART. Grambling has no business on the field with ANY of their OOC opponents. They should have scheduled three D2 teams.

In that regard, I think I like (not considering SOS)

1. Alabama State
2. AAMU
3. TxSO
4. JSU
5. SU
6. Valley
7. PV
8. UAPB
9. Grambling
10. Alcorn

I think I would agree with the first post. You can't say FCS schools matter and not FBS. BS

All that matters is each schools out of conference games.

Uhhh...considering your school's schedule, that is not the case. PV is the ONLY team in the conference playing a 10-game schedule. The number of games played during the course of the season is every bit as important as the quality of the opponents a team will face.

Your school has chosen to take path of least resistance to get into the SCG. Thus, PV should be ranked last in terms of strength of schedule.

FBS schools don't matter because the playing ground is not level to begin with. There's a reason FBS and FCS schools have different divisions. A team with 85 scholarship players versus a team with 63 is on a totally different level.
It's not like basketball where both teams have 12 players.

Good point, but scheduling schools like Texas College and Central State is perhaps the least path of resistance. Those schools are terrible talent-wise.

They may not be as talented, but football is still a contact sport. Regardless of the talent, a player is still susceptible to injury throughout the course of the game. Fewer games not only reduce the risk of injuries, but also allow injured players more time to heal when they are injured due to more open weekends.

Some folks definitely make up their own rules when it comes to strength of schedule. :emlaugh:

Notice the school represented saying something doesn't matter. That is bogus bs.

How does strength of schedule count when you know you're going to get beat by at least seven TD's against a team with 25 more extra bodies to sub in and out? It only matters in the wallet, that's why Grambling plays those types of games any how....to help equalize it's budget.

Thus, the reason for the discussion; strength of schedule. You've just admitted that the team with 25 more bodies is stronger than a team with lesser bodies. Not sure why this wouldn't count.

And make no mistake about it, the very reason schools play down (against D2, NAIA and the Concordia of the world) is for the purpose of equalizing the budget. That argument is fallacious at best.

Hey Kenn,

Some folks love being that oxymoron.

Great point. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't PV play only 9 games( all Swac) the year they won the football championship.

The only reason why I would omit FBS is pretty simple. Grambling will not beat UofH, no way no how. UAPB could beat Texas St and southern could shock ULL but it's iffy with these games. Especially since our schools can't bring these types home. AAMU will lose to UAB and Alcorn is going to get pounded by USM. Lets be real here though, these will be sure losses lol. All of the remaining games are winnable. If you lose FCS games then you have to look at your team and evaluate, not from this ranking. Not saying this ranking is wrong because if you add the FBS games then it looks accurate. If any team playing an FBS wins one of those games then its safe to say they will have the best team in the SWAC.

Anything is possible but I get what you are saying but too me every FBS is not on the same level. Take a look at every FBS team on a SWAC schedule and rank them in order

If accounting for only FCS schools and not FBS schools... Grambling wouldn't be tops. Glad a few of you recognized that. Glad to see more OOC FCS matchups for SWAC this year though. The 12-game schedule aids with that to some degree, of course.
