We used to tear bedrooms up! Then when the grown-ups came home, we tried to clean up real fast.. and that NEVER worked. All of the stuff on the dresser would be knocked all over the place and you know you can't make up a bed good in 30 seconds.. :lol:

I loved wrestling when I was 10 but then I realized that most of the punches and slaps do not make contact lol and it started to get really bad when they stomped people but their foot never hit the other person. I realized all of this at the age of 10 and was devastated. I liked the Rock, and Chris benoit when I watched it. I switched over to UFC and fell in love! I do think it is weird to think that it is REAL but I really can't judge someone for watching it. The weird and lame people are the folks who will argue you down about if this crap is real.
 
I watch it to be entertained. I love the promos and trash talking from the old school wrestlers like Big Cat Ernie Ladd, Randy Savage, Rock and Stone Cold.

The Attitude Era was perhaps the reason why more black people tuned in to watch it because Vince McMahon allowed his company to push the envelope outside of the ring.

Honestly, after the attitude era ended, I pretty much left... I couldn't go back. I fell off in college and started watching boxing more. I just don't watch Tv that much in general but I will catch a match every now and then.

Vince had to push the envelope in the 1990s. He was on the verge of losing his business before the Attitude Era (which greatly gleamed from the old ECW). Nowadays, Vince is on the Forbes list of billionaires and WWE is a publicly-traded company on the NYSE.

Say what y'all want about the fans being knuckledraggers or whatever, but they make money. You got to a WWE show, it's mostly parents with their kids. The Wrestlemania crowd, along with the Raw after Wrestlemania ... is completely different than the average WWE audience. Those two crowds are more international fans and hardcore/smart fans.

Yep. That's when Cena became the #1 guy. I lost interest until WrestleMania, Royal Rumble and Summer Slam come on.

Pretty much...Vince monopolizing on the business in the US pretty much hurt his business too. Yeah, there's TNA and Ring of Honor, but neither one has the market reach that WWE has. However, I do give Vince props for acquiring the film libraries from virtually every major U.S. and Canadian wrestling promotion ... which in turn is the backbone for the WWE Network.

Also some people fault Linda McMahon's unsuccessful runs for U.S. Senate as why WWE shifted from the Attitude Era to the current PG format. Although WWE now has deals with Mattell and other kid-friendly businesses.

But folks think the WWE style is all there is. I suggest looking up some stuff from New Japan. The Japanese style is a lot rougher (stiffer) and more athletic than the American style Hell, AJ Styles just signed a one-year deal with New Japan.
 
Well, like many of you all, I grew up on wrestling. I loved the different territories and Jim Crockett's version of WCW. When Vince raided the territories, I couldn't dig it anymore until I found out about ECW in 95 & 96. Vince killed that too. Even though I know longer consider myself a fan, I did check out Wrestlemania with my 7 year old last night when I should have been doing other things. I was actually entertained. Still, it's not the same.

As for UFC, I used to check out the videos when the first came out. Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock, Dan Savern, etc. but just like Boxing which is another sport I used to love, they lost me when they started doing all of these separate weight divisions and organizational titles...

From time to time on Saturday mornings, I like to go to youtube and look at wrestling footage from my era as a kid. I even do the same with boxing. Was watching Holmes-Shavers II and Spinks-Ali I & II last weekend....

Attitude Era WWE would've had a TV-MA rating...If you pay attention to WWE programming now it has a TV-PG/TV-14 rating, which essentially is a more parent-friendly/advertising-friendly format of programming.

The Attitude Era = WWE from 95-2000 during their run against WCW...PG WWE = from 2005 til now...

I'll be honest.......I'm one of the few Black women that hates Scandal, Real Housewives of Atlanta (or whatever that bullcrap is called), Grey's Anatomy and the rest of those reality TV shows BUT I will watch me some Raw and Smackdown! I too grew up on wrestling (my daddy used to watch) and it's not the same. I agree that the great ones are gone, but there are a few that I enjoy watching now like Kofi Kingston, Sheamus, Tamina (she is so beautiful) and I absolutely love the Uso's (Rakishi's twin sons)! But I also watch because it's funny; Santino Marella is hilarious to me. And like him or not, Vince McMahon is probably one of the smartest, shrewd businessmen in the world. I like watching him, too.

Oh wrestling can get very real. Unlike that crap Scandal, politics (Montreal Screwjob) and wrestling mistakes (Mick Foley was not prepared to be choke slammed a second time in the 98 Hell in Cell. The cage broke through unexpectedly. In another instance, a botched pile driver literally cost Stone Cold years off his career .) Wrestling can get very real.

WWE is basically a monopoly. I hope Sting comes and interrupts Taker's retirement speech tonight Raw. Raw only takes a backseat to Monday Night Football in the fall.

Oh aiight. I pretty much stopped watching wrestling around 1996/1997. Goldberg and DDP were the top stars in the WCW and I don't know who was top dog in WWE. I'm almost 20 years removed from wrestling but I watch old matches and still get excited. I think the biggest interest back in the day is that you had two top companies (NWA/WWF) and some other good regional companies (World Class, UWF/Mid South, AWA) that kept things interesting. To have all of this in one company seems to be too much. I always thought the WWF had the weakest overall product because they were so gimmicky but I watched religiously.. :lol: UWF and NWA were much better at "keeping it real".
