Marcus Smart shoves Texas Tech "Superfan"

I'll admit that I should have simply told the refs and my coaches, but I wouldn't apologize. It's easy to say he was wrong when we're not the one's that was being called the N-word. I'm not saying he was right....but I understand.

No more easy for me than for Smart. Smart was wrong and so was the fan. He should have reported the issue and had the fan removed. He will learn that sort of thing in hindsight and as he matures.

White Folk (maybe I shouldn't use this Term) have become increasingly open with using the N- word... They believe it Cool.. And because our youth are so unaware of Black Culture and the acceptance of White Culture, they have made white folk Comfortable Expressing the N- Word.

And what was White Folks excuse for using that word before ignorant black youths made it cool?

They didn't give a F*ck, It was how little they thought of us, just like the cat that called Smart the N* word.. He bought don't like no N*gga that don't Star for Texas Tech.. in he probably said exactly what i said

I guess.

The fact that they could do whatever they wanted and not worry about the consequences is what made them do it. I was born in Mississippi, have never gotten called an N word by a white guy face to face blatantly like that, you want to know why since we asking questions? I would try to beat the paste off of them where they are standing thats why....

It matters to the alum and booster that donate money to the school. Who are still ticked off from the Jameson Curry era.

Smart going to the draft doesn't matter to them and yes this will reflect on his drafting position. If he thought what that fan said was bad-wait till the Knicks, 76ers and a few other NBA towns get a hold of him.

Not every team wants to put up with that or have we forgotten Royce White & Andrew Bynum. There is a reason OJ Mayo got ran out of Dallas.

Talent can only get you so far. How many talented guys have done nothing for teams?

I wouldn't trust him on the Bucks. If he gets on a veteran run lottery team-I would be more hopeful for him.

Here is the thing on that. We don't know who that fan is or who he is connected to. If he got certain folk's ears-Smart could be one and done without it being his choice.

Well they are free to leave and any recruit seeing that should be looking at other options as well. Let Tech run out an all white guy team and see how well that works.

Isn't their coach Tubby Smith?

The only thing that Smart did wrong was touch the guy. I have no problem with him confronting the guy and bringing attention to his behavior. This won't be the first nor the last time that he gets called a name. While he can go around and beat up everyone that says something, it will cost him personally. However, the is always other ways to get at them without "turning the other cheek" or becoming Ron Artest. Texas Tech has already been put on blast by espn after their initial comment that this guy has never been a problem.

It was not a part of our music and life style. It was not shared popular culture with non blacks (rap music is race neutral).

Congrats on being the first to bring up rap music. God knows whites weren't opening saying the N-word before that came along.

What gets me is how comfortable White people around him are after he says the N-word. The White woman next to him comes to his defense after Smart shoves him.

You can't push or jump on the fan..period. 3 game suspension is appropriate. As for the fan, he should be banned from all texas tech events a year for every racist syllable he uttered, presumably 2 years min. Let him be a super fan from his couch.

I agree. We all know folks react differently when they hear the n word used towards them. To Smart it was a trigger word (coupling that with his frustration the past 4-5 games) but still can't let your emotions get the best of you no matter what.

The fans said he would not attend any more games for the rest of the season. By him being a big money donor I'm sure once this blows over he'll be back attending games next season.

As far as the Riley Cooper comparison... the fact that he was caught on camera saying it and was not suspended should let you know all that you need to know on that.

I heard last night that Smart is a mild tempered person as someone has already mentioned in this thread, but anyone, especially an out of control fan, can push someone over the edge-especially at an athletic event.

Rap culture uses it without conscious - This generation is socialized with whites using it rapping the rap music. Several white NFL players use the N word and their team mates have defended them using it.

So that gives someone the right to use it maliciously????

Right. Many former pros and personalities have condemned athletes like the Dolphins players who allowed Incognito to use the N or the Lions players who said he had no problem with a white player called him the N word.

The Riley Cooper situation was a smack in our face by Goddell and the Eagles. Many players couldn't do anything because they gotta look out for their lively hood instead of lashing out like Smart did and put their hands on Cooper.

In America, under no circumstances does a Black male have any right to do anything physical, offensive or that may be perceived as threatening to a White person. Period. This was the central (unwritten) statute re-established by the Zimmerman trial last year. So, at this point, nothing surprises me. Stay tuned to the Dunn trial, as this will be re-affirmed yet again.

What was the quote for the fan? I did not hear that part of the story. Was he using it in an offensive manner? I dont know what offensive to this rap generation. I am offended by it use in rap, but this generation I am not sure it can be offensive to them.
