The Olympian
Where Are They Now with National Signing Day Legend Isaiah Crowell

Isaiah Crowell is a lot of things to a lot of people. To those closest to him, he’s a young man pursuing a career in—or perhaps more appropriately on—a field he loves. To those closest to him, he’s a young man pursuing a career in—or perhaps more appropriately on—a field he loves. To NFL scouts, he’s a talented running back defined by both a potent combination of size, speed and athleticism and an unconventional college career. To Georgia fans, he’s an explosive offensive playmaker whose time in Athens was plagued by injuries and a series of ugly weapons charges (all of which were dropped last spring according to Tim Gayle of USA Today). But before he was any of these things, he was one of the nation’s most sought after recruits making a decision on national signing day.

From the beginning, Crowell established himself as a star at Carver High School in Columbus, Ga. Over a four year career he accounted for 4,872 yards and 61 carries on just 429 carries (11.36 yards per carry). A consensus 5-star recruit, Crowell was considered one of the nation’s best prospects by every major recruiting service.

I decided to read this thinking Crowell would be speaking about his time with Alabama St. only to find that the mere mention of Bama St. was in connection to the game against Kentucky...The whole piece was so disrespectful to Alabama St and the SWAC!

Maybe the writer left out comments about Bama State because this article is about the high school recruiting process.

Anyone that watched Crowell play at bama state probably doesn't believe he LOVES football. I hope he does well and reps bama state and the swac, but I saw a guy that plays because he's good at it and expects to make some money. Love is a strong word for him + football. He's knows football and has smashed that on occasion but they're not in a relationship or anything. Barlow even questioned his commitment to football in an article after the season saying something like how's Crowell going to respond when he's the 3rd string back and they tell him to run down on kick and punt coverage.. lol

It will be interesting to see how he transitions into the nfl....you have to have a love for the game + talent to go far.

He seemed like he was just trying too be careful and avoid injury instead of giving it his all like he's capable of doing.

Name a player that's all-pro calibre that you figure just plays for a check???

Now Robber you know some of them cats play for the money and not love of the game. That's the reason the Pro Bowl became a joke until this year. Lol. Don't fool yourself to think some of the pro bowl caliber players love the game so much. Now if you had said HOF caliber players who are obviously perennial all pros like Adrian Peterson then I agree. But most who make all pro only make it a few times or one time because once the get that money or contract like Albert Haynesworth they check out. Lol.

It's not just a game for them, it's a business. They know they are playing to get the money because the NFL can also stand for Not For Long

I heard there was a bunch of shat swept under the rug for Crowell at Bama State and GA. Talked to a scout who has big character concerns but says he wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be the next Arian Foster.

Pop, can't that be said about many prospects. Heard he's working hard at the camp in FL. Basically, it's left up to Crowell. If he wants it he has the physical talent to achieve it. He needs to listen Coach Barlow and his former Bama State teammates Greg Jenkins, Said Lee, and Terren Jones.

I agree JC. I think Crowell has the talent to ball out too. I have some concerns about his maturity but if that cat from UNA who failed a drug test at the combine and had 100 baby mama's can make it, Crowell dayum sure can make it.

They get in the league hungry....play above their heads during contract years, get the guaranteed cash and regress

Arian Foster came in super hungry...got paid, started doing things such as being a vegan, acting, etc...had a horrible 2013...Ben Tate struggled with injuries, runs hard during his contract year

Arian Foster was leading the league in rushing when he got hurt. I wouldn't call that a horrible year. Heck last year 2012 after signing he still was near the top in rushing and I think led the league in TDs.
