The Atlanta Braves announced Monday morning they plan to move to Cobb County in 2017.According to a published report, the team is set to leave Turner Field after their 20-year agreement expires at the end of the 2016 season.
Originally the Centennial Olympics Stadium, the venue was built for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies. After the Olympics, the stadium was reconstructed into baseball-specific Turner Field and the Braves began playing there in 1997.
The team says they plan to build a new stadium on the northwest corner of the Interstate 75-285 interchange in Cobb County.

That's a traffic NIGHTMARE! It's impossible driving through that area in a normal workday. This wasn't well thought out !

I agree. Man that is dumb. Somebody must want that land that Turner Field sits on. It is a nice venue too. One of my favorite ball parks. Not a bad seat in the house. Stupid and greedy folks trying to move. Ted Turner needs to buy his team back. LOL.

This is crazy. A bad move if you ask me.

Yep. You now will not get those downtown business folks who talk clients to day games and such. Too me, no team should leave for the burbs. The Braves have been the heart and soul of the sports franchises in the ATL. This is a stupid move. I can understand if they think they need a new venue. But they should build in the city.

well maybe they'll build this one in such a fashion that fans don't fall to their death in the new ball park.

They're actually moving toward where their fans actually are. I would have to find the graphic somewhere, but basically, about 75% of the Braves' season ticket holders live in the Northern suburbs.

Only reason i'm not mad about it is because it's likely to finally get Marta out here. I don't see any possibility of them putting a stadium in this area without bringing a Marta line.

Reed: Tax breaks to Braves city was “unwilling to do”

By Leroy Chapman

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed released the following statement in response to news of the Atlanta Braves’ intentions to move to a new stadium in Cobb County in 2017.

“The Atlanta Braves are one of the best baseball teams in America, and I wish them well.

We have been working very hard with the Braves for a long time, and at the end of the day, there was simply no way the team was going to stay in downtown Atlanta without city taxpayers spending hundreds of millions of dollars to make that happen.

You shole is telling the truth. Man them folks would start a war if MARTA is allowed to come to Cobb. They still stuck in the 60's. Until those folks realize a mas-transportation is needed in that area traffic will always be bad.
more precisely, Cobb County will not touch MARTA

MARTA is a bad idea for Cobb County... but putting the BRAVES right there is also a bad idea. That's already a bottleneck for traffic. On game days, that's gonna slow traffic up by an hour or more. I used to live at that interchange but I used to be about to get off at the exit right before the traffic got bad.

They won't care.. to them MARTA = Low income people = crime. Ask those Maryland suburb who with they never let public transportation get out there.

That is so true. Atlanta and its surrounding area will always be stuck in a rut because a transit system that covers the whole metro area is needed. Necks don't see that though.

How is it a bad idea? Thugs have cars. If crime is coming you can't stop it.

That will remain their problem.

Crime is already in Cobb County.
