If you take 3 seconds and refer to post 52 you will see that you don't have a clue!

That post actually contradicts what you said. According to that, the difference in cost between building a 35,000 seat and 50,000 seat stadium is 12 -14 million dollars. That's a far cry from the number not being "relevant" and the other crap you're blathering. 12 - 14 million is definitely relevant and we're just talking cost to build. The additional costs to operate and maintain a larger facility are relevant too. Like y'all have some magic JSU math that is going to overcome common sense.

Not to mention that the student enrollment number in that post is a pure pipe dream. JSU is just over the 9000 student mark for the first time ever and y'all expect to have 15,000 "in a few years"? That's a joke. That entire bullet - number 4 - reads like rationalization of the dreams and wishes of a child and you all are presenting it as if it's some sort of legitimate feasibility study.

And you have the nerve to call somebody clueless.

:smh:

You are talking apple to oranges when comparing dorms to stadium, plus I'm trying to get y'all to see how wiggernecks would see things. From what I see, when this plan is presented before them, they will not approve giving jSU $75 million dollars to build a stadium. I can hear them now, "the State is will have to wait twenty (20) year to generate $14 million dollars off of $75 million dollars, which is not guaranteed". "I'm sure there are better investments out there".

We been seeing these people in this state in action all our lives. We know how they see things. We know their attitude.

We know how long it take projects to take off around here. They are already wasting more than $75 million keeping memorial in shape and sitting empty more than 300 days a year. They have already put close to that amount into Memorial with another projected $100 million more to bring it up to modern standards. The total price for renovating and upgrading Memorial was close to $130 million and that was back in 2000.

Every dime the state put into Memorial on renovation and upkeep is money flushed down the tubes and will never be recovered since everybody know Memorial is destined to be blown up one day.

Young man... the cost is nominal in the grand scheme of things. If you want to be right, then you are right my friend! And as for the seating numbers, there are several variables as to how they arrived at those numbers and why they are immaterial to the overall proposal. I mentioned a few in the earlier post.

All I'm going to say for now is good luck, but I'm sure GR would like to hear more from me. :emlaugh:

That means...he done playing with you!

I normally don't get into such banter with folks on this board, however if I tell you "a chicken dips snuff" and it pertains to JSU, you can look under the wing for his box! I speak from position of knowledge, not speculation or supposition!

Hold on... they spent $100M upgrading Memorial?

GR couldnt care less what you say positive or negative

I just know Im going in on you when we break ground

I really wish you do have the chance to go in on me, because that means the State of Mississippi has proven me wrong, but I’m not going to hold my breath. :emlaugh:

Just be honest. You have no clue how the numbers were derived or if they have any validity at all. You don't know if this thing is financially feasible or not. Don't know if it can be built. Don't know if the money will be there to operate and maintain it.

You just want JSU to have a stadium. Somebody threw together some BS that sounds good to you simple people and you're just grinning and skinning with the rest of them.

I understand wanting to have a new stadium. I understand wanting to have a stadium on campus. But, you shouldn't ever say that the numbers are not "relevant" because they always are relevant and play a significant role in whether you all can build and keep this stadium.

Getting the numbers right is critical. Statements like the number of seats is not "relevant" and JSU will have 15,000 students in "a few years" don't help because they are misguided and untrue. If you all are serious about making this thing happen, then you all need to be serious, honest and realistic about the numbers.

My friend, while I'm playing Chess, you are hollering "King Me"!

You'll get it right sooner or later.

Get those numbers right and realize that they are relevant.

Then spend time worrying about my mental capacity.

Nope.
When JSU first bought up the stadium thing back in the late 1990's, the State did a study on how much it would cost to renovate Memorial. The study said it would be more than $130 million to renovate memorial. That included fixing the actual structural support of memorial--done, upgrade the press box--NOT done, elevators---partially done, adding what was then NEW TICKET BOXES and entrances--done, new locker rooms--done, new jumbo trons , scoreboards, and LED advertising boards--done, new drainage system---done, new seats---NOT DONE, renovating and expanding bathrooms--done, more access for handicap--done, plus other things like new turf every 6 or 7 years and the yearly maintenance upkeep.

They have spent at least $60 million all totaled since 2003 and is nowhere near finished renovating Memorial. They even did a study on REMOVING SEATS from Memorial down to 52,000 so chair back seating can be installed. They found out it can't be done without major construction to the inside of Memorial because the concrete bench seating rows are too close together to install chair back seating.

I don't see why folks think this idea is far fetched. Houston kind of sorta did the same thing for TXSU, not just as sweet of a deal JSU is getting though. Makes perfect sense. JSU is really the only really University on Jackson. It is a win win situation.

Oh ok. Just wondering since this article says they spent between $1.5-3M on upgrades and they estimated the cost of REPLACING Memorial to be about $60M. If they could have replaced it for $60M and decided not to, no way they spent $60M on upgrades.

But I do hope yall get the dome. Would be good for the state and the SWAC (while yall are still in it).

The problem is where do you go? I don't think yall think about the financial impact it will be to make a move. If you go to the SLC with McNeese and Sam Houston State. You will see a decrease in attendance big time. If you go to the OVC with Tn State, you will have to do the same thing they do. Hope to schedule HBCUs to help fill Memorial. See you are an educated JSU fan. But what we all forget is that we have tons of our fans in HBCU world who care less about all this playing PWCs. Now I am not saying don't try to better yourself. But the black fan mindset is not interested in playing SE La or Nicholls State when they come to Jackson. Same for playing Tn Martin or whomever is in the OVC outside of Tn State.

TP had the best idea of HBCUs moving up together. But that was when everybody was financially sound and not low resource institutions as the NCAA classifies us. It is more to it than just to do it. I wish any HBCU well if they can make a jump up. I was hoping FAMU could have pulled it off back in the day.

But yall have to be careful in just saying fugg the SWAC and leave as an independent. Yall already know what will happen. The other schools will refuse to play yall just like Texas did A&M. The only difference is their fans don't care if they play little sisters of the poor or if it is rain or shine. They will pack their stadiums. Anyway, the Dome is a great idea and I hope for my hometown's sake that JSU gets this done and done quickly.

Thank you. I am glad whoever the people that are pushing the Dome don't listen to a lot of people on here because they would be doomed lol. As I have said before I'm 100% behind JSU and Jackson getting this dome. This would make them necks at Ole Miss and MSU SO MAD that JSU and Jackson (being about 70% black) pull this off

You guys just need to say I hate JSU and leave it at that. All you see is JSU and not the other things that goes along with building the stadium.

Why do people make empty statements like this? I know that this is a sports board filled with opinions but you have no clue who works for the University or who is apart the alumni circle and who is in the know...I can honestly say that...you dont know what he or anyone else knows....
