Some people would say it was Eddie Robinsons idea, since he had the means to make happen.

I think both Coach Rob and Mr. Nicholson agreed that it was Mr. Nicholson's idea...Grambling was nationally known...they were playing in New York, Chicago, in Foreign Countries....then they let Southern take a shirt tail ride and the rest is history ;)

I'll give Southern it's props on track, though. Back to back Olympic hurdles champions is pretty amazing...

Other than having some dude to serve on SU's Board in recent years, his little school had nothing to do with the growth and development of not one Louisiana school. But he come in here like McNeese built every school in Louisiana.

Speaking of lies, that's a whopper! I haven't said a word about developing any other schools. Somebody asked me why I don't think Southern's honorable and I gave a factual account of why....that's got nothing to do with development...

So what did he lie about in the article? The truth was told!

Who said he lied about the article? But there are other things he is definitely lying about, such as number of times Grambling beat Southern in the Bayou Classic being similar to the number of times the Harlem Globetrotters beat the Washington Generals.

He may have lied about the Bayou classic, but as far as the overall state of SWAC Football, they were spot on!

What facts are you talking about? You do realize SU has done more positive things before McNeese was ever thought about.

Then he needs to talk about the state of the SWAC. I'm sure he has realized by now that there are other schools in the SWAC. But it seems like his only worry is SU. I'm really glad he cares. We need more people in the State of Louisiana like him. But I'm sure he voted for Piyush "Bobby" Jindal.

So I guess you refuse to give Southern its props for graduating the person that put Grambling in that position. I'm sure you do know that he didn't graduate from LSU. I wonder why? Now do you see why your message might seem racist to most on this board? Southern has a very rich history in sports and academics, but I guess Jindal's private school voucher program didn't cover that part of Louisiana history.

And you're refusing to give Collie Nicholson his props for the exposure he got you...your point??

Why should I? You are bragging on him enough. I'm glad you care enough to give a person like Collie the props he so deserve. What you fail to realize, Southern's and Grambling's histories are link together more than you think and McNeese is nowhere in the picture. But as long as you can only reference certain time periods to try to divide Grambling and Southern, then you really need to study more of Louisiana's history. But I understand, you are doing what comes natural, as that indentured servant. I've always wonder why certain folks couldn't get into LSU and that's facts.

I just hate to see someone come in here and try to find every reason in the world to cry about Southern not giving his school a return game. The honorable thing he could have done is said that he's mad because Southern decided not to come to Lake Charles.

Sounds like a hater to me. I think what bothers a lot of these folks is who the FCS awards are named after...as this person alluded to. I mean...do you hear the SEC folks calling for the ouster of the perennial SEC cellar dwellers. Does the FBS call for the ouster of Conference USA or the Sun-Belt conference? Take Arkansas St. They beat up an FCS school and then get drubbed by an FBS school. But who's calling for them to drop back to FCS? Georgia St can't even beat an FCS school...but who's complaining about their out of conference record.

I attended the school I wanted to attend. If that wouldn't have worked out, there were other option available. Qualifying to get into LSU wasn't ever a concern...Nice try, though....

SWAC not showing enough progress

By Craig Haley, FCS Exec. Director

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Strange as it may sound, the Southwestern Athletic Conference makes the right decision when it comes to the postseason by not sending its champion to the FCS playoffs.

There's too much to gain financially by staging a conference championship and too much to lose by trying to beat other FCS opponents in what inevitably would be first-round defeats year after year.

Sadly, the SWAC stands with the non-scholarship Pioneer Football League at the bottom of FCS conference rankings.

A turnaround is long overdue for a conference boasting so many past college football greats, including Walter Payton, Buck Buchanan, Jerry Rice and Eddie Robinson - whom the four major awards in the FCS are named after.

Not only has the SWAC fallen behind the other historically black conference in the FCS - the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, as evidenced by its seventh loss in the MEAC-SWAC Challenge to start the season - but it's already a mere 1-12 in out-of-conference games this season, including a pair of losses this weekend to Division II opponents, Alabama A&M against Tuskegee and Mississippi Valley State against Delta State...

Meanwhile, the rival MEAC has notched such non-conference wins as Bethune- Cookman over Tennessee State, North Carolina A&T over Appalachian State and Florida A&M over Mississippi Valley State in the MEAC-SWAC Challenge.

In recent years, the SWAC has been set back by head coaching defections, subpar facilities, NCAA academic penalties, even a 2011 brawl between UAPB and Southern that resulted in 41 players being suspended by the conference. And it's most recognizable program nationally - Grambling State - has gone from being the 2011 SWAC champion to losing 12 of its 13 games since the start of last season...

But results are telling. Step outside the conference and the SWAC struggles. It needs to find a way to close this gap because the results have become embarrassing.

Re: The SWAC is Where it Belongs... OUT

Teams need to leave. Plain and simple. If you can, go. If you can't, you can't. In this day and age, nobody is married to their conference anymore.

The same story was posted by someone else trying to take a shot at Southern, as if Southern is the entire SWAC. But his real reason for being mad at SU has nothing to do with the SWAC performance against OOC foes. Basically, he's mad at Southern for telling his PWC to kiss their HBCU asses when it came to a return game. But I agree, something needs to be done to the entire SWAC conference which includes Southern to put us back on a competitive level.

The article is only telling the truth. The SWAC needs to go D2 immediately. We would be more competitive and we wouldnt be
turning kids away that are looking for an education.

I am assuming you mean just for football right? Because baseball and basketball definitely should be D-I teams.

yea, i'm just noticing it. didn't catch it when i was scanning the board before posting. thanks though.
but my purpose was SWAC as a whole. not sure why someone would would want to use something like this as their personal gain on one SWAC school, other than ignorance.

Re: The SWAC is Where it Belongs... OUT

FOR THE LAST TIME, YOU CAN'T MOVE DOWN A DIVISION IN ONE SPORT AND STAY IN ANOTHER FOR THE REST. MOVE DOWN TO D-2 MEANS MOVING YOUR ENTIRE ATHLETICS PROGRAM DOWN TO D-2.

SURE, THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS ARE LESS THAN D-1, PLUS U CAN CUT DOWN ON SPORTS OFFERED AND SCHOLARSHIPS. BUT FOR WHAT?

LESS EXPOSURE THAN NOW?
LESS MONEY MAKING OPPORTUNITIES THAN NOW?
LESS FANS CARING THAN THEY DO NOW?

I DO AGREE, THE CONFERENCE AND INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS MUST EVALUATE THEMSELVES LIKE YESTERDAY.

WHAT'S IN THE MEMBER/CONFERENCE BEST INTERESTS IN THE SHORT- AND LONG-TERM?

WHAT MAKES SOME OF YOU THINK MOVING DOWN WILL HELP. HELL, NORTH ALABAMA AND OTHER BIGGER D-2 SCHOOLS HAVE MADE/ARE MAKING PLANS TO MOVE UP.

WHY MOVE TO THE LOWER DIVISION WHEN OTHERS IN THAT LOWER DIVISION SEEK TO MOVE UP? ALSO, LET'S SAY SOME SWAC SCHOOLS MOVE DOWN ... DON'T Y'ALL REALIZE THE STEPS NEEDED TO MOVE UP TO D-1 FCS?

I APOLOGIZE FOR RANTING. TYPOS MAY BE IN THERE BECAUSE I TYPED THIS ON MY PHONE

Some folks believe that an HBCU/Black folks should not be in a position to tell them what to do, which is probably why the person that started the first thread claims to be a conservative White Republican, basically the exact same people who hate the POTUS because he is Black and they disguise their extreme dislike for him as being, "we don't like his policies".
