Too damm much...but this is a sign that HBCUs need to get smarter n terms of coaches salary. ...200k on the HBCU level is waaaayyy to much jus to win a SWAC title in lower tier conference in FCS.......

I agree!

Next time ask these dummies what is the point of their question. What did this have to do with ****. I know they miss **** (especially SU, Alcorn and AAMU) but dayum, they need to leave **** alone.

Since you were the first to say it was Pete's fault, I sense some sensitivity. You do realize this thread is about two assistant coaches at Grambling losing their jobs, which has nothing to do with Pete or JSU's Bell.

Pete had a $200K salary and set a precedent in the SWAC ...therefore relevant.

What makes **** relevant to this discussion? Thought so.

the economy never bounced back after Katrina and schools who were dependent on the state pay dearly for it
SU and Gram depend on the state less than any school in the conference as far as athletic funding. PV, TSU, and Bama State have 85% plus of their funding coming from the state.

Like jsupop33 said, 85k was way too much to pay a coach like Bell, whereas Pete probably should have made no more than $175k.

What is wrong with some of yall man? Sheeeesh

LOL. Man, I am not even commenting in this thread. You already know my stance on coaches pay at the FCS level, particularly in the SWAC. I also admit we opened the Pandora's Box with Pete's salary in the early 2000s after he had won them SWAC titles and mythical Black College Championships. Just glad we have come to our senses whether forced or not, to not overpay a head coach for just a shot at winning a conference title. Going to be interesting to see how our HBCUs go about salaries of these football coaches as we are all under attack financially.

I see the name Bell make some folks so sick at the stomach that they can’t bear to regurgitate his name, instead they just post pictures to show their disgust or type a bunch of asterisks like some retarded kid. But anyway, welcome back to the board!!! Maybe your wisdom could shine some light on that DOMED stadium.

Exactly how much booger is making?

I get all of that, but, not trying to start any smack....but why would somebody from SU open their mouth about who paid a coach whatever amount of money? Yall just paid Lyvonia 600k for 6 wins. Thats 100k a win. So on this subject, if I was somebody from SU, I would kinda back away from the keyboard....dont you think?

Thanks JR!

It's no secret we've made our share of mistakes, but at least we have retracted from such foolishness, which unlike some schools that are paying coaches near $200k for 1 SWAC champions out of 7 years. I'm sure if that same SWAC coach who has won only 1 SWAC championship in 7 years happens to win another championship, he'll probably demand 250k.

1 SWAC Championship in 7 years? I didn't know that is what he was getting paid for. Glad you told me.

He is making around 191K. But some of that is subsidized by the Blue Bengal Alumni Association or whatever they call themselves. I think maybe 60K of it is. I am sure GR and Robber can tell you better on how much the alums kick back in to pay Rick. But they have a cheap buyout of Comegy if they choose to. His contract is up this Fall I believe. JSU covered themselves pretty well with his contract.

The only reason you're paying less is because you hired a coach no decent school would even look at.
