20 years ago SU

I remember it like yesterday. I believe.

Yep. We was on the yard then homie.

I was in Toledo with Southerns Concert Choir on Tour. We just did the last number before, Mr. Lloyd told us that Southern won. Man we partied that entire night at the hotel. Everybody rushed back to the room to catch highlights on ESPN.

Yes indeed. Both teams had good players. Heck the SWAC was tough back then. If the NCAA had been fair. Both JSU and SU should have gone to the dance that year.
It was our fault. The Tournament final was after the selection show.

Yep.
People begged the SWAC to move the tournament back a few days so both teams would have a shot at getting in. Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars started the frenzy for Lindsey Hunter mid season, talking about how they wanted him in Detroit, so people wanted to see how Lindsey would do against tournament competition. Matter of fact, JSU beat Michigan that year also in the tip off classic in Hawaii at the beginning of the season.

When people saw that SU was just as good or better than JSU was that year, people wanted the SWAC to moved the tournament back 2 days so the NCAA could select both if SU won the SWAC tournament as they did.

Don't have to tell you the SWACs stance.
"I ain't gonna do it. You can't make me do it. We are the HNIC's in charge."

I remember carpooling with two fools that had dual degrees, a general studies degree from Morehouse and an Electrical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech. I must have talked sh!t for about two weeks while we carpooled. I never understood the need of a general studies degree just to get the HBCU experience. Hampton University does the same thing with ODU in engineering.

Back in our time only 8 or 9 at the most HBCU's had full engineering programs. All others had dual degrees. I can't think of to many folks who really wanted to go to a PWC back then.

Myself and 4 other GaTech grads(italian/white boys) left work early just to watch the game. Those mf's talked mad cash shit damned near all week long as they stopped short of calling Southern a "ni%%er school." I didn't correct the redneck mfs from florida all week, I just smiled @ them lol. Before the game started, they were talking shit as usual and I stayed quiet and I remember the last words I spoke to them as we were sharing a few trays of raw oysters, "Southern ain't no punk school... they play everything for real so y'all gone learn what even my own school been learning for the last few years...a$$ will get WHOOPED!!!!" They were cracking on the Jags and the SWAC conf as "no-name" and lauding those 2 big dudes they had in the middle  and I just sat there and smiled while sucking down the oysters/beer they were paying for lol. After 2-3 minutes, you could hear a rat pissing on cotton. The childish spoiled privileged mfs were cussing mad  and damned near were calling their own alum black players "fvcking idiot....ni....." They were about to let out the N word. :) I kept my composure off lower greenville. Ate their shit. Drank their shit. Talked shit about how sorry GaYeck was and continued to welcome them to texas, which by their 4th-5th month, they swore they couldn't stand it here. I told them I hoped it sleeted/hail stormed/tornadoed their italian azzes right on up outta here. :D :emlaugh:  I was civil. They were not.

Scales and crew made me proud as HEYELL that day.

I remember that so well. After the game, I went around the corner to Whispers (New Orleans), caught the tail end of happy hours and the rest of the night partied hard and told anyone that would listen S.U. just finished waxing GT. That was a great night for old JROCK. :emlaugh:

And when it was my turn to drive in to work while we carpooled, I took the scenic route through the streets of Los Angeles and drove extra slow so my carpool buddies didn't miss a word I had to say about how Southern kicked the ACC Tournament champions GaTech azz in the first round. And to think that Duke won the National Championship that year.
