2013 SWAC signing day SCG predictions

pvdogteam

Who ya rootin' for? PVU
Since everyone is so excited about their new players, I think it would be fun to predict the order of finish or the SCG participants based on expected improvements to your favorite teams:

Can I pencil in SU vs JSU for the 2013 SCG???

I predict my favorite school, the Prairie View stripeless tigers to finish about (no comment) barring a miracle DC pickup :read:

Re: 2013 SWAC signing day SCG predeitions

Jones never has a stellar recruiting class, yet he has been to the SCG more than any team. Call me when the players make it to the field. Also if your team is depending on freshman to make you better, you in trouble from the start. Unless you got SEC talent from the jump.

Well, most of these guys will be redshirted, so we can only hope to see these guys within another year or 2.

I think Bama State has signed the most immediate impact players that will get them to the SCG from the east. I believe Jackson State has had the most disappointing impact players from the east. I won't commit on the west, mostly because I am a very humble person.

pvdt, it's waaaay too early for this. My beloved UAPB hasn't even produced a tentative 2013 football schedule. And there's still the announcing (if any) of our recruits, and don't forget Spring scrimmage. So, we'll pass on predictions......for now.

Re: 2013 SWAC signing day SCG predeitions

I know we are adding more players but 50% of our signing class will come in and contribute right away.

Re: 2013 SWAC signing day SCG predeitions

Some of those starters were awful lets be real about that now. SU has a pretty good class coming in, Im sure some of those upperclassmen will get beat out.
SU returns 8 starters on both sides of the ball, I doubt it.

Nothing was wrong with our starters at all. Matter of fact, SU talent wise was in the top 3 teams in the conference. Now our scheme and play calling was horrible under Stump, but once he was gone it got better as the season progressed. Some folks can't tell the difference.

And how many games did ya'll win to make it better?

Coach Odums said that but he also said, behind those starters we need depth but not just depth, we need players who can come in and push the starters and I see a lot on that list who will come in and do that.

Re: 2013 SWAC signing day SCG predeitions

I think SU should be fine..looking at our schedule, the hard tough teams we play at home, Bama ST will be prolly the biggest test for us..everybody else we have them at A.W. and the team should be hype and the crowd should be big in those games..

Bama St will prolly be a preview of the SCG...I'm still watching out for PV and I don't think GSU will have a down year again

I think folks who coach in the SWAC know SU has talent. But the key was coaching them up. Stump did a good job on evaluating talent. He was just not an X and O's guy. I remember even talking to your coach about the talent on SU's team. He said give it 2-3 years with the team that Stump was putting together and that was the summer of 2011 when we had that conversation. The good thing is these kids have been in the program for 2-3 years now and we have not had the Pete like attrition we were in the past. We were in most of the games last year and had opportunities to win 3-4 more games at the end either with kicks or making that last stop in the case of the Alcorn loss. I do think with 16 starters returning it helps. This team reminds me of the years Pete had from 2000-2002 were we were so-so and then broke out in 03. It will be interesting for sure.

Some starters will get pushed. But for the most part, they were young and getting their feet wet. I don't think there will be an overhaul of starters. But I do agree some upperclassmen will get beat out by some young guy. Maybe even by some who did not play last year but were on the team. You just never know who comes back to camp ready to make that next step. I do like our nucleus. Our best players are returning like Dray, Virgil, Lee Doss, the OL was young. The problem for us has been depth at certain positions along with coaching(all of us have had that issue). I will see what happens after the spring and who actually shows up and shows out in August. We all have to remember at our schools, you never know what these kids going to do or not do during the off season. You hope they take care of business on and off the field.

The difference is Pete had already proven himself as a winning HC. That 12 win season didn't come from nowhere - Pete had done it before. The coach you have now is a career loser.
