Bama State AD on paid leave, future uncertain as Alabama State AD

Who got the contract and are they politically connected?

I have a 17 page report that identify all the contracts. Two black legislators are on the list. The current state AG is on the list. He claims he worked on bonds for the university before he was elected to the position. Hopefully the forensic audit will clear up a lot of the questions raised about the contracts. Looking at the report, it does not appear to rise to any criminal activities. I could be wrong. We will have to wait on the final audit to be sure.

Wow!!!! $685k until 2014. The curse of Joe Reed.

This is actually a good sign for bama state. before they would try and fire him for cause when there wasn't any, and instead of saving the money on the contract, they'd cost themselves millions in lawyers, publicity and ultimately have to pay out b/c they were wrong in the first place. now they have enough sense to just pay up front and get it over with.

I'm not speaking ill on ASU, but if they didn't do anything wrong, why would ASU have to pay Dr. Silver anything. I didn't know our AD's were making $685k a year.

So they fired him and then they paid him?

Where they do that at? Sounds like hush money to me.

Hey JC, do you have the contract Silver signed to get that 685K? Thats the contract I want to see. There is a nice "hush clause" in there somewhere. This is sad

Silver is the president. They havent even mentioned poor Stacy the AD yet. I guess they havent figured out how to make him go away quietly

I meant to say presidents while realizing they have an AD that they placed on leave too.

Silver's contract is on the Montgomery Advertiser web site. It says he works at the pleasure of the BOT for $325k per year running through Dec 2016. The settlement calls for neither party to make disparaging remarks about each other.

Danley contract expires on 31 Dec 2012.

Then why did they over pay him? Hmmm.

Over pay or under pay? His total package was worth $1.3m.

Wrong. That's a total package for three years. You guys are paying him half that much (nearly 700,000) to leave and for less than a half year of work.
I'd take that deal and run with it and not look back.

And they wonder why they're in the predicament they're in. Some folks can't read the fine print or add simple numbers over in Montgomery.

Exactly....thats what I said...HUSH money

Yeah...its called hush money

Yeah...if you say so. You and I will have to wait until the external audits are complete to see what they reveal. Josh Moon wrote a sensible article about the debacle today in the Advertiser.

When will this stupidity end for Bama State? You guys have to be the laughingstock in Alabama. Who would want to work at an institution where folks are constantly getting fired.
The former AD seemed to be a good fundraiser and was a key player in helping to get the stadium built. What could he have done that was so egregious that warranted being terminated?
My best bet was that he found some corruption going on in the athletic department, so they had to get rid of him.

A former all-SEC running back at Auburn, Danley started working at ASU in 2010 and oversaw programs that won five SWAC titles in his first year. More importantly, he led fundraising efforts and helped manage the building of ASU’s new $62 million on-campus football stadium that opened in November.

Danley wouldn’t go into the specific reasons he was fired, saying only that the university listed 10 charges against him at the hearing and that the hearing officer upheld four of them. Those four charges were deemed sufficient cause for termination. Reached in his office at ASU Friday evening, executive vice president John Knight wouldn’t comment on Danley’s termination or on why the second-year AD was placed on paid leave four months earlier.

I wonder what he actually did. There were ten charges and only four held up but that is why he was fired. It is interesting to me that they waited 4 months to term him.

And they waited right until school was out for the holidays to do it, just like they did for their President so there wouldn't be much fallout from the students. Where's Josh Moon when you need him?

ASU folks hate Josh Moon... but one thing you can say about him is he will get the truth out of what is going on.

Believe it or not there are a lot of us who appreciate what Josh Moon is doing. As an ASU graduate I want to know about the bad just as much as I want to hear about the good and I don't care from whom it comes from as long as the source is accurate. It may seem as if Josh reports the bad news but thats only because we have a history of having a fuced up administration.

You said a mouthful there.
