FCS Attendance Week Ending 12/08/12

$80 for a CHAMPIONSHIP game???????

Yep. Tickets started at $80 to $85 for both schools.

They were selling for an average of $145, which was the third-highest priced ticket of all the games that weekend. It was $57 just to get in the stadium, according to Seat Geek.com

You all are getting pimped. Just accept the facts. Hell, if you all wasnt, maybe you all could afford lights on your practice field.

Translation: "My argument is weak as usual and I don't have the research skills to substantiate my deranged contention. This task is just as difficult for me as mining gold." :emlaugh:

Well we all know that it will be about 10-12K more than the FCS Championship game will have. If they have a sell out this year, more if SHSU is not in it.

Winston Salem was 1-10 in FCS before dropping down. J-State is way better than what they were at this level. 2 years ago JSU whipped another D-2 finalist in Delta State. It's a different ball game.

Jackson State 32, Delta State 17....I wouldn't quite classify that as whoop, not to mention the game was in Jackson & it was the first game of the season. Perhaps if you watched DII football alongside with FCS as much you would have seen the massive improvement thats DSU made throughout the season.

You can never use this as leverage but...

Jackson State beat Delta State, who in turn beat Valdosta State, who beat Albany State who beat Tuskegee who beat Alabama State who beat Jackson State. I'm sure had they played later in the season the results might have been quite different.

Now to talk about this season, again if you watch football you would know that schools like WSSU, Tuskegee, Albany State could compete with the best FCS school and beat them. WSSU has more speed than ANY other HBCU and their defense is incredible. The FCS/DII association means nothing when you just look at the product on the field.

As far as the whole 1-10 crap. 1. WSSU lost 8 of their games that season by a touchdown or less, and they had a completely different coaching staff. Which clearly by those results you need one, because Blount seemed to never make adjustments to his playing style, kind of just would hope that his style would eventually win.

Maynor comes along goes 8-2 his first year, doesn't make the playoffs and comes back with two stellar years. WSSU currently puts out the strongest 2 squads on the field currently in HBCU's. 5 weeks ago I would not have debated this as I felt Bethune and Tennessee State were stronger, but after their performances against top ranked DII schools in the nation....with the top defense and top offense in the nation...and then dismantling a school with nearly 20 DI transfers?

WSSU would defeat any FCS HBCU...but we'll never know that.

Man.........We see Delta State play 11 times a year plus playoff games. See all the highlights too.

Delta State was beat down before they scored them points. It was the first game of the season and we turned the ball over several times on scoring drives. If not for 1st game rust, we could have scored at least 3 more TD's on Delta State before the dogs was called off.

Your small time azz school had to drop back to D2 because they got their azz whipped. 1-10. Who will forget. This why I am pulling for Valdosta St. I hope they blow yall small time azz out.

I bet the weather and the fact that they had just played each other also played a factor Ken. I think those had more to do with it than the cost of attendance for those alums. Just an observation.

You mean UCLA and Stanford?

Less folks showed up for that game because the Pac-12 controls ticket prices, which were $80 for the championship game compared to $20 to $75 for regular season games.

Not to mention the same two teams played exactly 7 days before that championship game. REMATCHES DON'T WORK ON NO LEVEL when playing for conference championships.

I bet if Michigan and Ohio State ever do that in the Big 10 title game it will be sold out. LOL. Sold out with mofos pissed off that it is in a stadium smaller than Michigan Stadium or the Shoe in Columbus. LOL.

Same for LSU vs Florida etc. in the SEC. Alabama vs South Carolina if it had been a rematch.

Stanford don't have those kind of fans. They ain't Oregon or USC. They got good fans. But they are not rabid like that where they would see a rematch. A different matchup might have helped. Especially if one of the teams has a chance to go to the BCS title game.

So you saying that basicly Jackson state will never be able to do what Winston Salem state is doing? Its no use in even trying, they will whip our aZZ..

How did you get that from my response? I just don't see the playoffs are worth it. I would rather play TNState, Northwestern State, Samford, and Richmond in the REGULAR season than playing TNState and MSState in the regular season and go the playoffs to play Sam Houston State. I just don't see the point in the playoffs.

..and 83, i don't think you realize how smalltime the playoffs are. White folks don't even care about the playoffs like you do for whatever reason. If I told some people at my job I'm going to see JSU play Old Dominion, they would be like.. WHY? These are smalltime white schools that get attention from about 10% of the national college football base. BCF gets just as much if not more attention nationally than they do. We are a product, they are not. We sent Morehouse and PV to Cali and drew 50K fans. If we sent Sam Houston and Georgia Southern out there, they would have to cancel the game. Those schools you want to be like are so smalltime. However, since we are on their level, I do agree that we SHOULD play them but they can have their playoffs. They are only in them because that is the best they can do.

Ummmmmmmmm.... while you're ranting and raving to make your point, could you tell those who were supposed to write a check to PVAMU that it is STILL waiting to RECEIVE ITS CHECK from playing in that "classic?" Since PVAMU football, band, school, and fans got pimped and all.

Thank ya' kindly. :)

*now you all know a part of the rationale why that visibly-successful :read: game folded, eh? Besides the political pressure(s) :read: *

Those of you that are discounting WSSU because they're D-2 are delusional. Bama State lost to Tuskegee as they do regularly and AAMU barely scraped by them. I wouldn't be surprised if WSSU beat everyone in the SWAC by 14 points this year. WSSU didn't do well in the MEAC, but... the SWAC hasn't been as competitive as the MEAC lately either. And I don't get the Delta State thing, Isn't JSU 1-1 withthem? I mean, they're a D-2 there shouldn't have been a loss to them lol... it shouldn't have even been a competitive game.

Prepare yourself for the annual "but dey(D-ii) recruit by differing rules" unknown1. :smug:

I'm of the belief that if WSSU was in the SEAC THIS year, they'd easily be SEAC champs.

Man.
These promoters are pimping our azzes every week. We come in, play the game, put the bands out front in parades and shat, make them and that city millions, and they cut us a bunk azz check for $100,000 before expenses. You will be lucky to clear $25 grand when it's all said and done.

I actually disagree with that as well. Planning events or 50-100K people is not what HBCUs are equipped to do. The promoters have to come in and foot the bill for everything, yet we want half the gate. You see what happened to the CCC when we cut the promoters out. We went from 50K+ to 30K+. We went from getting a guaranteed check of over $100K to getting a $25K check. If the classic comes back to Jackson, it will have a promoter.

Keeping it real, the difference is they don't draw the big numbers for "classics" because they don't care about bands, halftime shows, etc. They go to the game to see the game and support the team. FAMU this year was a prime example of what happens when one of those pieces aside from the actual game itself isn't a part of the puzzle. Their largest classic attendance cut in half. And not counting those classics, HBCU's haven't even been dominating the top attendance anymore. Look at the top 10 average attendance at the end of the season for the past 5 years. I'm not even sure it's so much a product as a novelty. And I always thought the whole point of football was to win a championship but that's just me.

Unknown, I think that by now, most of us realize the D2 teams have recruiting advantages IF they choose to use them. TU has administrative support and when Comegy was their coach, he was also the AD and knew how to make everything work in his favor. They also don't have APR and can accept JUCOs more liberally. In many regards, they should have more talent than us. As for Delta State and JSU, we simply were not prepared. That was an embarrassing night for JSU. DSU could not move the ball but we kept gving them short field but we could not move the ball because we kept playing musical QBs. Also, Valley gave them film of us. We didn't have any film on them. However, the bottomline is this. We were scared to play them again. We are the better program and we would welcome the chance to prove it again. However, I disagree that the games should not be competitive. A good D2 team should have good talent. I would never overlook them just like 1-A teams can't overlook good 1-AA teams.

Regardless. If you want to go that route FCS teams have more scholarships to get more players. You don't see conferences like the SOCON or CAA or any of them having those issues. The difference is they get better players and have better coaches. Have you ever sat and tried to watch a SWAC game on tv before? Tell me the level of play isn't terrible... aint no way nobody can deny it. That's why they compete it's not about D2 schools recruiting differences lol. Sometimes you just have to get in touch with reality and stop fooling yourself.

Bama got that azz tapped by A&M, yet yall still think they are the best since slice bread. it amazes me how when HBCU's barley beat a team we are sorry, yet when PWC's do it they had a bad game.

This is a bunch of excuses basically. It's just like we all know there's no way UGA should lose to Georgia Southern... there's no way Bama State should regularly lose to Tuskegee. And that's not to single them out but it clearly shows that the level of play between the SWAC/D2 is pretty minute. Regardless of their recruiting advantages, what would happen if Tuskegee played Georgia Southern... or ODU, or even BCU? Would it be a competitive game? Could they have nearly an even series over the same amount of time? We both know the answer to that.

So, your comparison is the #1 team in the country getting beat by the #9 team in the country? Oh ok.

Now I agree with that. I seriously never knew Bama St got beat like that. :shame:

No, the point being every team has a down game. Now I will be the first to admit, only the old people in Huntsville are satisfied with Jones. Jones could be a great coach if he ever got a real OC. Our problem in Huntsville is folks in the clique only want what they want.
