Should a 290 lb, 6 foot, 12 year old be allowed to play Pee Wee Football?

Elijah Earnheart, 12, has been banned from a Pee Wee football league in Mesquite, Tex. The president of the league said that, at 6-foot-1 and 297 pounds, Earnheart is ineligible to play on account of his size, Fox 4 in Dallas reports.

Even though he had practiced for the Mesquite Vikings for three weeks, the league dismissed him at a Sunday weigh-in. His mother told Fox 4 that her son came home and cried.

"I just want to play because most of my teammates are my friends," the 12-year-old said in the news segment.

His mother, Cindy Earnheart, has tackled the matter by jumping into protest mode. She wrote "Let Elijah Play" on signs and T-shirts. "I'm not going to let him give up," she told Fox 4.

Should he be allowed to play?

He should be able to play. He is still 12 years old. Now they should just let him play with the 13-14 year olds, but his age group is still 12 years old.

If he was 6-1, 200lbs, maybe. You can't do anything about height, but you can do something about the weight.

I agree about the height. It's the weight I'm concerned about. My son is playing football for the 8 year olds and he weighs 62lbs. I'm very nervous. This little boy should play middle school ball only.

I wish they had put a full size picture of this kid b/c to me 300lbs at 6ft seems HUGE, especially for a 12 year old. So to answer the question...heyal no.

Is 300lbs normal for a 6ft 12 year old!?

Here he is!

Even though he is 12, I think he's too big weight wise to play with the younger kids. He would hurt some of the kids that a lot smaller than he is. He should be allowed to play with 13 to 14 year old kids.

Honestly he probably wouldn't even hurt anybody b/c he probably can't even move all that weight around. The articles said he doesn't know how to play and that's why he wants to play Pee Wee instead of school football.

But yeah...he's definitely too big to be playing against kids that are less than 100lbs than him. Put him on the Cowboys they sorry asses need help! :emlaugh:

SS, did you see the video?

Yeah...he looks huge but he doesn't "look" like he moves very fast. Of course he was just sitting in a chair sucking on water sweating.

Even when he was sitting next to the kid in the chair he looked much larger and of coruse when they showed pics of the kids playing football (on the team) they looked considerably smaller than him.

He's too big and it's unfortunate his mom is fighting instead of working with him so that he can play on the school team or losting weight. The other kids at the table didn't look big.

I don't think you understand the weight difference. At that age most kids don't know how to mov their weight around, but most of those kids are 85-150lbs. This kid is 300lbs. If he just falls on an 85lb kid he could seriously injure him.

6-1, 297 isn't really fat at all. I'm sure from this story Elijah will get plenty of football attention. I'm sure some youth football league in the Dallas area will offer him a chance to play after seeing this.

If a doctor says the is well enough to play he should play. I have coached against 12 year old kids who were over 300 lbs. When a 300 lbs kid falls on you it's like a big fluffy matress falling on you. I have also found out that kids that large are too slow to do much more than standup and watch kids run by them.

This kid has the potential to be a beast. He needs to be on the HS practice squads perfecting his craft. Playing with little kids wont help him at all...

You would be suprised. I might take him half the season to just be able to get in a 3 point stand and take 2 steps without standing up. That is hard for an overweight kid to do.

Although he is a Monsterous kid... He IS still a Kid... Let the kid play... if it becomes an issue of fear... move him up a class or 2.. Im glad he is becoming active... at least he is NOT at home just sitting there eating and watching tv..

Isn't this football? lol... wasn't aware that a size difference should be enough to keep someone out of the game.

True story. 1982. Labor Day. My best friend and I are on the freshman football team at our local high school. We're at practice (yea, on labor day). My best friend was a defensive starter but he was the 3rd string tailback (we had good tailbacks). Near the end of practice, we have our second team defense going up against a mixture of second and third team offensive players. The play the offense ran was I Rose 28 Toss (right toss). My best friend gets the toss and immediately cuts inside because the DE on his right side came up field as soon as the ball was snapped. As he surges into the line he was hit low from his right side which caused him to twist a little before he hit the ground. Right as he was going down and was landing on his back/side one of our lineman (3rd string fatboy) in front of him got his big arse knocked down and basically fell on top of him at the same time he was hitting the ground. The result of him falling on him in that position was a dislocated hip. Freaked everybody out out there - even the coaches. I felt so bad for my best friend. It was like he was paralyzed. He couldn't move and laid there screaming in pain. Then our big teddy bear lineman started crying to make it worse. My best friend weighed about 145 lbs. The teddy bear probably was about 5'10" 270 lbs (a friggin' blob). Now just imagine that big arse boy laying those 297 lbs on a kid weighing less than 100 lbs. in Pee Wee football.

He's too big for Pee Wee football and his mamma needs her arse whupped for that stupidity.

She should find a high school coach and let him start working out and playing with them. Shit....in 5 years that boy would be hell on the field.

Naw he shouldn't be able to play with his age range.

I dont know how they do it in yall areas but where I lived you had to do weigh in. At my age i was too small so instead of playing with my age group they wanted me to play down. That was the last time i considered football. The same happened the other way where there were people who were bigger and bumped up an age group. The issue here is at his size he is probably bigger than all the age groups until he gets to play in school.

Yep. I was just looking at the Saints roster. Sedrick Ellis (DT #98) of the Saints is 6'1" 307. That kid is 10 lighter than Sedrick Ellis. He's gonna be a monster in high school and beyond.

I wouldn’t want to blame the mother too much. She may not know anything about football…nobody spoke of a father. Could be the only thing in her mind is “they won’t let my baby play footballâ€￾…and like a normal caring mother she was pissed.

I wouldn't say for sure he will be a monster. He will just e bigger than everyone else.

And anyone who is saying this kid should be able to play with these little kids probably hasn't been on a youth football field since they were a kid.
