'We're here to entertain', says T.I.

Hip-hip artist T.I. was one of many entertainers, politicians and dignitaries who were in attendance at the annual Bud Billiken parade in Chicago.

The Atlanta-based rapper spoke to reporters about what role the hip-hop community can play in attempting to curb violence plaguing several urban cities, including Chicago, which as seen nearly 300 murders through mid-August.

"We're here to entertain," T.I. said. "You have people in politics, it's their job is to make sure these things are in place so we don't have so much violence due to a lack of options.

"I feel like whenever budgets are cut the education system gets it first. Whenever budgets are cut the extracurricular activities in the neighborhood gets it first," he continued. "So, I think that needs to be (taken care of) more so than expecting the hip-hop community to paint a pretty picture and say positive words and think everybody is going to listen."

T.I. makes me shake my head. Dude keeps throwing his career away over foolishness. He has a hollywood look and was primed to make a run after takers.

He's right in what he said. But at the same time has to realize the influence, he and those in the industry, have on people, too. And for him not to understand that is concerning.

For the most part, I think T.I understands his role as it pertains to him being an entertainer. What you should be concerned about is the lack of parents actually being parents. Parents should be raising their kids showing them right from wrong. Instead we have parents today showing and encouraging their kids to do wrong. Everybody wants to place the blame on education and everybody else, when most of this nonsense is starting in the home. Until parents and family members get up off their azz and be a major influence in their kids life, not a dam thing will change.

He's right in what he said. But at the same time has to realize the influence, he and those in the industry, have on people, too. And for him not to understand that is concerning.

You and Alpha are both right.

However in TI's case he and others are not helping hip hop's image when they keep getting in trouble with the law. I shouldn't keep hearing about rappers beefing on Twitter? Or a rapper goes out of their way to represent everything negative just to get fans (BO WOW).

Then we ignore those who are doing the right thing or they get trashed constantly (Romeo). How much stuff have Romeo, Young Jeezy, Plies, KRS One & others have done in the community that the hip hop community won't talk about?

It funny that TI says we are here to entertain but once you get past the negative baggage-they haven't put out enough stuff to entertain versus the group that gets ignored. Most are always guest stars on someone else's album while theirs barely sale in most cases.

Well he's rich what is stopping him and other losers from doing like Deion Sanders? Invest with others and create programs? How about encouraging your fans to VOTE? Tell your fans to stop going in and out of jail and give us in education hand? Encourage kid to put an education first and graduate. I don't see him and his loser friends encouraging education.

Part of the issue that we have is too many kids are trying to be like him. And they think that means being the dumbest kid in class or the school thug. It worst because their parents think the same way too.
