It is hard to compete with what the others have to offer.

i remember when i was in my recuriting process only two schools came at me hard at first and it was nothing but PWC until Alcorn came strong being in the Cyfair district i didnt understand why PV Or TSU didnt show interest but when TSU found out Alcorn was in the hunt they suddenly popped up it wasnt til after i signed with TSU that i ran into the now head coach at PV at the store that he said they didnt recruit me hard was they thought i wouldnt go to a HBCU because of the school i went too... i laughed and told her id go anywhere if it ment a chance to play college baseball..

Why in sans hell isn't PV beating down their doors (all 10 schools)? Oh, I forgot... It's a PWHS (predominantly white high school district) so it's "assumed" that the kids of color and most DEFINITELY the kids of NON-COLOR won't even attend so why try. P88-----> :retard:

True story (recent), earlier this spring, there was a 6'4" 210lbs muscular kid - anglo - 3-knocker-downer, very, very aggressive, versatile, w/ drive, passion, <b>grades</b> lol, athletic ability, great understanding of the game of basketball, great family, et al... bball player. Private school in <b>Tomball, Texas</b> lol - already earned 15 hrs college credit going into the last semester senior year earlier this spring :retard:, blah blah blah.... wanted BADLY to stay local in Texas for his rich lol parent's/grands sake - travel mainly. Their only son so the entire family was very, very supportive of him. They thought I was some type of recruiter when I was introduced to them last fall, which I'm not, so they asked me to help him get into school to play bball (he had grades/SAT score and could've just attended as a student - just wanted a shot to play ball). Granted, his entire education was paid for already - according to dad - lol but they knew he wanted to play ball. I wanted BADLY to recommend the kid to PVAMU and he and I talked about HBCUs and he said he had ZERO issue w/ attending an HBCU (very strong christian bckgrnd). What did I do? I made a phone call to Kansas. He's @ a college in Kansas because P88's old HS bball coach is there and P88 still keeps in contact w/ "the man." lol Kid was offered a full-ride so his talents will excel there. I <b>refused</b> to do the job a <b><u>paid university recruiter</u></b> should be doing @ PVAMU.

While I'm @ it, I've recommended 2 good kids to Grambing State University's football program (haven't checked on their status yet) earlier this year. Someone can testify on my behalf. :| There's zero shame in my game. :|

when coach rob came to TSU i told him about players that could play in my district that he should look at but never listened except for one kid who was from my HS who after coming to one of our weekend series was committed to TSU but changed his mind when they stopped contacting him as much that school district is so rich in talent there were kids on my team who didnt get any scholarship offers from schools and ended up just going to school hell some of those kids could have came in the swac and been succesful but they are passed up on theres a big problem but all i can do is talk positive about my university and hope it will stick and steal a few kids

P88,when you are in a place like houston, and so many schools are dippin in your pot the best thing to do is stay in your own lane. Focus on kids you can actually get. I understand what you are saying about trying. But every minute u waste talking to kid you dont have a chance to get, is time they can use on a kid that "WANTS" to attend your school. Thats recruiting 101.

I get what you are saying, and to a certain degree I agree with you because we should not be responsible for hand delivering every recruit to our football coaches (although I don't mind helping any SWAC school try to reach a kid that is really trying hard to recruit him, but the HS coaches are being reluctant in the process. I have done it twice). However, I have a question with the part in bold: You made the call to Kansas, so you were doing the job of the full-time university recruiter at that school, so why did it hurt you to do the same for the recruiter at PV? Yea PV is closer (I know you are making the argument that is why PV should have contacted the kid), but you still had to help a recruiter at another school. Alums are the biggest and most marketable extension of any institution. Every alumni, directly and indirectly, helps or hinders admission and athletic recruiters by the way they act, discuss their college experience, and how they are employed. Most PWIs use alumni in the recruiting process to their advantage, but I know you already know this. Not saying we should be doing the football recruiter's job, but there are some aspects where grads should be okay with being ambassadors for their institution. With the limited resources that many of our institutions have, alumni are biggest resource we have to recruit kids for academics or athletics. Just my opinion.

Does not hurt to try or ask. Barlow and Doug seem to do this the best in the SWAC in my opinion. As Barlow said in his interview about Crowell when they recruited him out of high school. I hate the circumstances, but the approach worked. If we start recruiting earlier, stop settling for leftovers, and the coaches are open to HBCUs, we could get some of the kids that choose to go elsewhere. Not all, but some.

Got to give credit where credit is due. The Grambling Alums I know do a good job of recruiting for Grambling.

Sometimes you get tired of beating your head against a wall. It is easier for TSU to recruit outside of the normal range of the Houston Chronicle.

(philosophy on life, competitiveness, spirituality, et al) </b> :read: I don't know ol' dude's last name @ PVAMU, won't have too much in common w/ him other than "race" and the fact that he prolly graduated an HBCU, and I have to go to a university website to find out who/what he is. And, based upon what SOME of his former players have said about him (negative), I'm not sure I'd want to get to know him. I'll leave it @ that. My only interest was helping an honorable young kid get into school to fulfill his dream of playing college bball. Period. I was the highway to make it happen for that kid (we'll find out next month what's what as well lol - he's excited, has my cell/work #s/work e-mail/et al as does his parents/grandparents and we speak weekly, among the others lol ).

So, we now have the answer why 3 years ago, my 3.5 football star son w/ numerous offers for collegiate basketball is not @ Prairie View A&M University playing football/bball and is riding a bench @ D-I FBS as he enters his redshirt soph year lol. :emlaugh: Also, there's another lil' P88 in the wings and I <b><u>know</u></b> he will put me in the grave by going to ut-austin. He's physically progressing, has the grades if he continues along this current path, and is mesmerized w/ the longhorn from afar. :smh: Y'all can go head on and bury me when he signs. :dead:

Pv88 I have to defend my coaching brethren. Most are trying damn hard. In a lot of cases hs coaches and parents are slammin the door in their face...The kids arent even meeting the coaches. I can tell you some horror stories not even being allowed into a school. ... Sad but damn true.

Or HS coaches throwing recruits letters in the trash or not returning phone calls to college recruiters from certain schools and/or those that call for certain kids....happens at a few schools in east Texas that I know of personally because I was there when the parents had to get involved. While some SWAC recruiters definitely need to step there game up, I would not put all it on them as to why they aren't able to recruit certain kids.

We can do better in many aspects, but I have to nod yes to these quotes.

for every kid who you miss on, there are tons you try who blow you off in these suburban areas. PV recruits the current Ohio State backup quarterback and he's about to sign, Ohio State comes in 2 days before signing day and blows everything up they did and the kid plays a half in 4 years college football.

Most of your sports such as golf, bowling, etc. features kids from suburban areas of Houston, Dallas & San Antonio...surprised Panthro never asked why those kids in the Woodlands, etc. have turned down full rides just to attend their PWC where they won't play any golf. If you get one of those kids, it's culture shock 101 and you're gambling with APR as they may leave any minute.

These days, you recruit the sure thing as why waste money and time on kids whose heart ain't in it?

again, ask our golf coach about recruiting those areas....their parents call the shots and they'll turn money down

PV has had better success recruiting kids of other persuasions who grow up in small towns in Texas or come from out of state where the stigma isn't there. It works for softball, baseball, track, etc.
