The Case for Allowing Fathers to Opt Out of Paying Child Support

Up at Black Like Moi, the question being asked is, if a woman can choose to abort a child, can a man choose not to pay child support? Or to put it less bluntly, if having a child is a woman’s choice, is it still a man’s responsibility? I’m sorry ladies, but this issue warrants a good airing out.

For my part, I’ve always believed that the divvying up of reproductive rights, and by that I mean men having none, is the main reason that some men feel no responsibility toward their kids. In their minds, the mother chose – on her own, usually without or against his input – to have the child so she bears the sole responsibility of caring for it.

As a friend reminded me, you have to ask yourself; what if a woman was forced to carry a child to term against her will, what kind of mother would she be? Point being, anytime one parent is forced into that role against their will, problems ensue. It’s a breeding ground for resentment.

This question of choice, or lack thereof, is poisoning the well. Women have the right to control what happens with their bodies, but since what happens inside a woman’s body can lead to a child, isn’t it fair to ask whether a man has the right to control when (or if) he becomes a father?

Do you think it is the sole responsibility of the woman when it comes to birth control?

So........men were forced against their will to not wear a condom? Men were forced against their will to not have vasectomies?

And if I'm not mistaken, men are asked to control when or if they want to become a father........it's the form of "Can you put on a condom" or "Did you bring the horses?"

Are women forced against their will to not take birth control or demand a man wear a condom when it comes to consensual sex? How about are women forced against their will to have sex at all? (Again, as it relates to consensual sex)

No but they darn sho make all the decisions on whether or not to have a baby without the man. If a woman gets pregnant and says he does not want a child....that does not even matter.

I think this is a very interesting discussion as it relates to the rights of men in this regard.

Me to.

I believe there should be a law for a contractual agreement for non-married couples. If the woman gets pregnant and the man does not want the child he will not be financially obligated to pay child support thereby relinquishing ALL future parental rights and the rights cannot be restored and the woman can't say or ask for shit.

So it sounds like to me that you're saying that if a man tells a woman he does not want children but does not use a condom and she gets pregnant, she should abort the baby because he doesn't want it?

Nah read my previous post...I think we posted at the same time. Oh...FYI I'm pro choice.

No, women aren't forced against their will to not take birth control or demand that a man wears a condom with consensual sex.......UNLESS THEY WANT TO BECOME PREGNANT! Women are not forced against their will to have consensual sex. The point you're missing is that if anyone (man or woman) does not want children, they need to use protection. It's crazy, stupid, and just plain dumb for anyone to go around declaring they don't want kids but aint doin' a damn thing to prevent having them!

Ok...so what if you KNOW a woman is on the pill and see her take it? Have sex with no condom...she gets pregnant and wants the child but the man does not. Why should he be obligated when just a few weeks ago she was pills to keep from having a baby?

Because no form of birth control is perfect and he should have known that.

Even if she is taking the pill AND he is using a condom, there is still a chance of pregnancy. Small chance, but there is a chance.

Read it Founder!

You said, "If the woman gets pregnant and the man does not want the child he will not be financially obligated to pay child support thereby relinquishing ALL future parental rights and the rights cannot be restored....."

But again, if the man does not wear a condom, that could be a significant indicator that he did absolutely nothing to ensure that he would not have a child. Yes or no?

And if this was the case, this could strongly suggest that the man left the responsibility of birth control up to the woman, even though he himself is obligated to take all necessary precautions in preventing having children. Yes or no?

THIS RIGHT HERE!!!! HE SHOULD WEAR A CONDOM REGARDLESS!!!!!!

Founder, let me tell you something that I tell all of my male cousins, my male friends, and sons of my friends...........

1. If you're having sex and don't want children, NEVER trust that the female is on birth control, even if you see her put the pill in her mouth. There are some things that don't get swallowed.

2. ALWAYS bring and use your own condoms and try to not use one given to you by anyone else (unless you absolutely have to). If you do have to use a condom given to you by someone else, inspect the wrapper carefully before using it.

Now you know I gots to respond to this. :goof:
Same thing different point of view.

Women were forced against their will to let a man have unprotected sex with them. Women were forced to have sex with using some sort of birthcontrol?

Show me a man that can "get it in" with a fully cloth woman with her legs crossed while saying NO WAY to unprotected sex and I'll show you HOUDNI reborn.

Again, no, women are not forced against their will to have unprotected sex with men. And women are not forced to take birth control........HOWEVER, is a man forced to have unprotected consensual sex with a woman? Is he forced to stay there and have sex with her? Is a man forced to not wear a condom when having unprotected consensual sex with a woman?

I understand what you're saying, but let's be honest, the lack of exercising control is a factor. Just because a duck sees a pond doesn't mean he has to swim in it.......but he usually does because he wants to.

I think the only way folks should get a pass is if BOTH WORKED LIKE HELL to avoid a pregnancy and by some miracle, it still happened...and she still wanted the kid. We all know that isn't what happens. People get sloppy about their sexual health on the daily. We all know how the laws/courts will play out beforehand. So, with that knowledge fully in your mind...if you impregnate/get preggo, you should get whatever you get==trials, tribulations and blessing from the birth or abortion.

Let's stand tall as adults and embrace our own decisions...instead of looking for a scape goat to pass the buck to. Your penis, your choices where it goes. Your vagina, your choice who gets in it....unless its rape. Its not aerophysicist science here.
