DirecTV Customers!!

So what's the deal with Viacom and DirecTV. According to DirecTV..most of Viacom channels will be shut down tonight. So Viacom want to pull out of a service that has over some 30 millions viewers???

Viacom wants more money because most of their channels are suffering in the ratings department especially Nickelodeon. DirectTV is refusing to pass the buck of a increase that would total 1 billion dollars on the customers.

Those channels are still on but not on Direct Tv.

Don't be shocked if shows from those networks skyrocket in illegal downloads as many were airing new episodes, rerun long missed fan favorite shows and getting ready to start new seasons like Degrassi.

Viacom stock has been dropping every since this started.

none of those channels are working either. they really playing hardball. I could care less but my son & wife are gonna hurt

Yeah with Viacom stock dropping..they (Viacom) may need to rethink their position:

When you ask for more money for your network:you piss off the execs of DirecTV: When the DirecTV execs are pissed:they drop your channels:when they drop your channels: your stock in the market drops:when your stock in the market drops, you lose even more money: If you don't to want end up broke, don't piss off the execs: You better try to stay with DIRECTV.

Glad I don't have Directv no more...never though I'd ever say that, at one time. LOL Viacom owns lots of channels, so that's gonna hurt viewers, big time.

Not good, not good at all!

Even though I don't watch BET, MTV, TV Land or any of the channels and I won't miss them, I think I'm gonna call Directv and tell them how mad I am that "my favorite channels" are not available and see if I can parlay this into a discount.
:lol::lol:

Same here. Maybe that can add that to my NFL ticket discount. LOL.

Good.
I hoipe they stay off because I never watch those crap stations. They can have the WIVES, Snooki, and all the crap Viacom puts out. It really is not a loss for me.

Lets all call and demand that they KEEP THEM OFF and get a discount that way.

Palladia, Centric, Tr3s, CMT, Logo, NickToons, VH1 Classic, TeenNick, Nick Jr., Nick@Nite, Spike, BET, VH1, TV Land, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and MTV.

They can keep all those channels off. The only one I halfway watch, because of UCF, is SPIKE. The rest really ain't a big deal.

I aint tripping at all. Directv just gave me NFL Sunday Ticket For free. I dont even watch those 25 channels that cut off.

But if you have a show on those channels you are ticked off.

Remember for some this is the only way you can see their shows with bootlegging them online. TNA, Cedric the Entertainer's show and Degrassi. All started their new seasons.

And what's worst the time BET FINALLY decides to air a show with a REAL black man in the lead-this mess happens.

And this hurts Viacom even more-how much money are you going to get for ads post on new shows that will air on these networks if all of them just lost 20 million viewers? This is the fourth company they have gotten into with about money.

t24, you beat me to it. I called and they gave me the NFL Sunday Ticket for free too. They asked that I be patient with the Viacom programming, and assured me they were working to resolve the issue. Only thing we may miss it nick for my youngans. But I have Sunday Ticket now for free so I told my youngans they better go watch some of those damn DVD's I baught.

So is Direct TV even worth it at all??? I decided to let it go 3 or 4 months ago. I decided I why not pay more bills, buy more groceries when you can find pretty much everything you want to see either online or through redbox.

Really I like DirecTV...they also have movies online that you can watch if you are subcriber. But I can't see myself waiting in line at Wal-Mart to look for a movie that's not in RedBox. There are so many movies especially now the independent African American movies that RedBox,Netflix does not carry. And really DirecTV does not carry them either. I usually order them from Amazon or if it's available on Amazon and watch it. Segue..into this info WeGotMovies corporation is bringing back the local DVD rental store franchise. You can read more about it here www.urbandisc.com ( it's the 2nd article down) They are all on the East Coast for now.Anyway yall points about those channels don't have good shows is somewhat a valid one. But I do like some of Spike-TV shows.

Viacom is ramping up its war with DirecTV over how much it is paid for shows including "The Daily Show" and "SpongeBob SquarePants." Unfortunately, its latest tactic is causing some collateral damage.

Viacom on Wednesday shut off access to full-length episodes on its own websites such as MTV.com and ComedyCentral.com to all visitors, even those who have no stake in the dispute.

The move was apparently in response to DirecTV telling its 20 million U.S. subscribers where on the Internet they could find programs they could no longer watch on TV.

Viacom's sites are now taken over by a video ad that informs visitors about the dispute and prompts people to call DirecTV to complain.

THat is bad PR to cut off show from folks who don't even have a stake in this. I wonder what do the companies that have shows on these networks are going to do?

They both losing. They gonna work it out before this weekend. I think Viacom to raise prices or fees was a kneejerk reaction to their stock dropping. In the stock market sometimes you just have to wait it out rather than to have bad PR that will surely drive your stock even lower.

JROCK is pissed. I tried to turn on Hollywood Exes and it's gone!!! :emlaugh: How dare them MFs!!! I "needs" to see what's going to happen with Stevie J and Scrappy and the rest of the gang on Monday dammit!!! :emlaugh:

Same here, Warn. I had Directv a long time ago when I lived in Warren, and I actually enjoyed it. When I bought my house back in '08, I started to go with Directv but back then they didn't have the NFL Network (only NFL Sunday Ticket),so I went with Dish Network. I don't have a problem with Dish either, but I started to pick up Directv so I'd have the NFL Network, NFL Redzone, and NFL Sunday ticket. I'm glad I listened to my first instinct and stayed with Dish Network.

Even for folks who don't watch those channels, they're still paying for them (included in a package or not), and won't see a decrease in their bill.
