HBCUs: The Backup Plan for D1 Knuckleheads

Out of 253 players taken in the 2012 NFL Draft, only 15 were taken from non-FBS schools.

Pretty much like I thought. But folks are wondering why kids choose FBS level schools over any FCS level school whether HBCU or PWC. They see the numbers. Especially the highly recruited ones. Their goal is different from the marginal player. Right or wrong, the better HS players think they will make it to the next level after college. So they pick schools in their mind that can help them get there. A few of them and their parents look at the educational opportunities if things don't work out on the field. But we know those parents and kids are in the minority.

The bottom line is, if you are able to judge other folks kids, then take the heat when folks judge you and your kids!!!! Like I said 1 billion times on this page, every one who was a teenager in this life time made mistakes and someone forgave them for making those mistakes. We all did something that could have gotten us in trouble before, even if it was drinking under 21, smoking, pledging, out of wedlock sex, and the list goes on. You just didn't get caught or you would be singing a different tune!!

Another good post!

If we have come to the conclusion that athlete who attend FBS schools are more likely to be drafted, then why all the animosity when black athletes choose BCS schools over HBCUs?

One difference-we get caught-we are held accountable for our actions. There isn't a line of folks making excuses for us because we can catch a football.

We all know folks make mistakes-but these boys are never held accountable for theirs and they keep on until they are dead, locked up or crying on tv that they are broke. The moment TO, Pacman and others stopped playing sports-everyone dumped them.

I rather them be held accountable the first time they get in trouble instead of encouraged to act a fool. So we aren't seeing/hearing stories of former troubled jocks getting killed or locked up.

It's not so much the FBS schools are getting them drafted. It's the fact that the FBS schools are getting the better athletes. if you put up numbers, and you have NFL body and speed, you will get drafted no matter what level you play on. Now a days with all these camps, 7 on 7 tournaments and scouting services, aren't to many kids that falls thru the cracks

Because we don't get the elite black athlete anymore like the previous generation or when I was growing up as a kid. People see the better athletes now choose FBS level schools and don't normally give us any thought until it doesn't work out for them at that level. I don't have any animosity towards those kids. All I want them to do is take advantage of those schools no different than I would expect a kid at our schools to take advantage of that scholarship and get that education. I want to see educated young black men and women in droves out there. By any means necessary. So if they are an athlete who gets a scholarship to one of those schools. Then I hope for the best for them. Even though I hate Ole Piss. Any black kid that plays for them, I want them to do well individually on and off the field. Now I hope their school loses every game. LOL. But I hope they get that Ole Piss degree and move on to whatever they may do in life whether it is sports or something else. I have no animosity towards them. You do what is best for you and your family. It is an individual decision. Now you just need to make the most of whatever that decision is. Whether it is HBCU or PWC. You should go in with the mindset of having success in the classroom. Take advantage of all the resources you have and get your hustle on.

It amazes me that I'm so far ahead of all of you. Last year at about this time when GR was saying the APR issue was unfair because of the caliber athlete and students HBCUs get, I was whining. But now that a lot of our schools are in APR trouble and its obvious that kids use some of our schools as a last resort option, y'all are all whining about the caliber player we get.

Blackfolks did HBCUs just like they did every other part of society. We hung around blackfolks all our lives when whitefolks wanted nothing to do with us, but as soon as we got our degrees the HBCU wasn't good enough for our kids. Most if us can't imagine sending our kids to THAT school. Therefore HBCUs practically start over with first generation students every year.

About 3 years ago there was a top qb recruit out if Indiana. His father went to Grambling. He was an older gentleman, looked about 60. The kid was being highlighted in the game of the week. They interviewed his father about his days at Grambling under EddieRobinson and he chronicled how nobody gave him a shot but Grambling. Now he has his doctorate and is a high school principal. Now that its his sons turned to be recruited, you guessed it, Grambling ain't even considered. You would think that since he loved Eddie and Grambling so much and he was in control if his sons recruitment, he would at least give Grambling a shot. Nope, he had the usual suspects listed as prospects. Bama Florida LSU Kentucky blah blah blah. The kid ended up going to Kentucky and flopped. I think he is 3rd string if he is still on the team. If he had given Grambling a chance Grambling wouldn't have the qb troubles they have now.

But again, this just illustrates how messed up we are. As soon as we get a chance to send our kids to whitey we don't consider the schools that nurtured us. We wonder why our schools have issues others don't. Well HBCUs start over from the beginning EVERY DAMN YEAR. The main people that criticize are the first to turn their backs, cause it ain't my problem and I sure ain't about to make that kinda commitment

I would respect your post if 1. you played sports at an HBCU or 2. you had a 3, 4, or 5 star kid being recruited in sports!

Thats a cop out from a sellout
Its folks like you that keep HBCUs down. You sold out and you should be ashamed
I would respect your response better if you had said
you mad you jealous you a hater.

The black race is full of Uncle Toms that think whitefolks ice is colder.

BTW

We are talking SWAC athletics over here. Why don't you goto tigershitter or Tigerdroppings or whatever that white shit is you couldn't wait to tell us about. Remember we weren't good enough for you so gone over there where the whitefolks are sellout. Don't go halfway go all the way. We don't need your sellout presence over here....WE GOT THIS. ...sellout

I don't knock any kid (or his parent) for him going to whatever school he decides. We need to get out of the thinking that because a parent went to an HBCU, the kid automatically should/will want to go the same school. That isn't a knock on the HBCU, that isnt a knock on the kid, that isnt a knock on the parent. That is all about a kid making a choice. Just like his parent made a choice. Just like we all did. Nothing wrong with that.
However,
The main people that criticize are the first to turn their backs
I agree with that part. We can see some of that on tspn. Some of the same people who are HBCU products will degrade, belittle, besmirch HBCUs with a quickness, even their own alma mater. :(

MH

I've never said said anything about the kids right to make a choice. He made the right choice. Nobody worth a damn goes to texas southern. MY point is how the parent specifically in this case sold out. DCG is the worst kind of sellout and she knows it. She sold the race out...its pathetic.

I didn't sellout the HBCU's they sold me out by not coming to recruit my child

Oh, you didn't get the memo DCG? :emlaugh: You were supposed to deliver your child to them w/ a bow on. :emlaugh: Afterall, they're (staff) accustomed to someone else doing their job(s) for them (recruiting). That's what they've done. That seems to be a prevailent mindset among so many, from what I've ascertained sparingly. My son was a 3.5 star out of North Carolina w/ only one year of fball experience - his size/strength/speed caused him to be sought after. Guess how many HBCUs offered him? Guess? Guess how many PWCUs after the first 15 PWCUs offered him? :emlaugh: :bawling: :emlaugh:

Some of you all need to seriously wakeup or more than naught, continue to stay on the tangent you're on w/ the daydreamingness of stupidity, like a lot of the SWAC staffs who are terrified to recruit/go after 3.0+ star recruits. :D :emlaugh: :lmao:

I can't actually believe I agree with that as well  Just look at this thread alone and you can see who are usually the main culprits whenever anything SWAC related is brought up.

A hit dog usually hollers loudly...

By they way, my comments are not geared toward anyone on the tspn. My comments are about folks who I know personally who send their kids to other schools and not HBCU's although they benefited from the schools. They are the true Clarence Thomas and Allen West of the world.

But 662... one look @ this thread and numerous others and you can also view which black people rode that open-enrollment tidal wave of dumbness. :D :emlaugh: :bawling: :emlaugh: Some of y'all look the part and most def, sound the part because you lack intellectual ability. lol Incoherent, cannot rationally comprehend, and seemingly in a state of delusion because.... *drumroll* you cannot think.

Good job DCG. I'm thankful you're from the GREAT state of Texas and was taught to lead, and not follow. You and your son made the right choice for you all. You all owe no one here, especially one of these ignorant black people, any semblance of an explanation. Remember, some of them just left the cotton fields last fall. lol Literally. :emlaugh:

Until HBCUs stop using excuses and start thinking they will continue to be behind the curb....

maybe hbcus need to do what southern has started to do have events like junior day and hosting 7 on 7's its one of the quickest ways to see the talent thats out there before the big boys do. offer the scholarship to the kid even though he or she is a five star athlete and maybe if things fall through at the big school they will come bake to you. thats how bama st got the running back out of georgia.

Au contrairie mes amie. We are a product of our GREAT independent school district. THAT is where the foundation was laid. I know you know absolutely nothing of what I speak because more than naught, you matriculated through a segregated predominantly black and prolly subpar academically inferior educational system. :swink: I know I'm right. You sound the part. lol The word "competitivity" sends a shrill down your spine, eh? :D Man... open enrollment... tsk, tsk, tsk... just... damned dumb. :retard:

@JSUDMJ2004, you're absolutely correct. They cannot think. WEB DuBois was eons ahead of himself when he said the other 90% of those people were incapable of thought. :smh: They make great sheep though lol.

That's why the jags will excel, IMHO. They're doing it the right way while the "others" stand pat.
