What are the chances that SU vs. JSU becomes the "new" Capital City Classic?

The Clown Prince of Crime
Except that this game will be like the Egg Bowl and be played home and home between Baton Rouge and Jackson.

Baton Rouge and Jackson are the Capital Cities in their respective states. Just A Thought.

BH, those of us with sense didn't want the Capital City Classic.

Pop, I will confess....Alcorn's Administration at the time did not stop to think about life after Steve McNair and agreed to this game to start CCC. The only year we had reason to move the game was 1994 because everybody and they mama, uncle, and auntee (including of the other color) wanted to see Steve McNair's Last College Game.

After 1994, we were too stupid to see were getting taken advantage of and did nothing about it (don't worry though, next we have to right the wrongs of Grambling).

But Pop, SU vs. JSU home and home would be the true Capital City Classic. You guys might just get that TV Sponsorship you have been wanting on a channel like VERSUS that shows the Atlanta Classic.

Even if that means a possible slot on the VERSUS network? SU vs. JSU could run FAMU out of the TV Sponsorship and have the SWAC BRAND shown more than the MEAC Brand.
How could changing the name get SU/JSU on TV. This game already has it's own identity, BoomBox. You need to focus on Alcorn. Can't speak for JSU, but SU athletics is doing just fine.

Why couldn't we get the game on Versus without promoters involved? We don't need a 3rd wheel to get these things. All we need is smart business-minded individuals from both institutions.

BRAVEHEART123, you are missing the point. Actually, the Jackson State v Southern game is THE PRIME example in Black College athletics that a "classic" tag is not needed to make an event work... Have you been to the JSU/SU game in Jackson?

You sited the "Egg Bowl" and the "Magnolia Bowl", but both these games are like the current JSU/SU game in that they are "bowls" only in name. There is no third party sponsor for these games. They are regular home/home games.

If Alcorn don't turn their program around we might have to kick them out of the SWAC. I believe they finished last in the commissioner cup standings. My thoughts on this is if Jacob State could be realized, Southern would actually be able to schedule two more out of conference games.

What do JSU folks (me included) think about the Southern Heritage Classic? Should that one continue? I think it worked out okay as far as the promoter is concerned. I'm not sure how well it works out for the schools though.

They are going to shut up about this coach. I remember when Spears got there, he had them all brain washed. :lmao:

Right.

For the first time you are on point. Your only mistake is the Classic will be in Jackson every year. We are putting together a proposal to have JSUvSU played in Jackson annually. We dont need promoters or any of that nonsense but for the good of the SWAC and BCF the game is going to be in Jackson. SUs new AD is young and may have a mind to advance SU pass the hell-hole its in now. We can make more money having the game in Jackson plus JSU fans are just not interested in traveling to SUs unappealing stadium.

Tony Clayton and Greg Lafleur had the right idea when they moved SUs home game to Jackson in 09. That saved SUs athletic department and it can happen going forward. If the game is moved to Jackson every year, SU can bring its dwindling athletic department back up to minimum standards and even add back discontinued programs. The money and the opportunity is here....we have to stop "thinking like nikkas" and take advantage of it.

Damn this bull Sh!t thread. The JSU/SU game does not need any special gimmicks or named classics. It's fu@king JSU/SU. That's it!!! Both team will still sell out each others stadiums even if both teams have losing records.
What we need to be talking about is the future of the SWAC and its horrible leadership.

I totally agree, especially about the horrible leadership for the SWAC!

Who ever thinks the great and nationally renowned Southern University Football Jaguars and Human JukeBox are going to Jackson every year must be on crack and bath salt. Really Southern and Grambling should be prepping to move on to the Sun Belt conference. That way Jackson State will come out of our shadow and become the flagship university in the SWAC. I can tell you though Alabama State isn't going to stay in the SWAC if S.U. and Grambling leaves. :emlaugh:

LOOK AT THIS DUMB SHIT! :xeye: :retard:

Dude, could you be any more DUMBER???

Anywho...I think the SU/JSU "classic" would benefit yall since Alcorn said eff yall and the Capital City classic. Yall stand to lose a good bit of revenue because of this. jSU may want to look into this since ya'll just might break even with the NATION coming to jackson in Sept.

I totally agree. I don't like all the "unofficial names" people give the game. It's a clean, old-fashioned I-don't-like-you-and-you-don't-like-me college football rivalry. it doesn't need any gimmicks or other bells and whistles.

And yes, we need to have adult conversations on the future of the conference.

While the game doesn't need any gimmicks, bells or whistles, tv revenue and any other additional revenue would be welcomed.

If there is an opportunity bring in more money from the game, I don't believe either school or the conference is in a position to turn that down.
