Is Boise State Getting Cold Feet

The new format pretty much eliminates Boise State or teams from C-USA or any other conference. The committee won't have to worry about them again. We know right from the start that the champions of the major conferences (SEC, Pac 12, Big 12 and Big Ten) will take those spots unless there are years where those conference are down across the board.

It could be argued that it would be harder for Boise State to play for the national championship come 2014 than under the current BCS system because more power conference champions will be in the mix.

What if Boise State is ranked 1 - 4? Wouldn't they get one of those spots?

Considering that Boise State has never been ranked No. 4 or higher in any regular season poll, I doubt they would even be in such a position to begin with. Voters have always given the power conferences the benefit of the doubt.

I was just joking.. Besides, I hate the SEC. I hope they get no teams in.

You can hate the SEC all you want. However, as long as Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and Florida among others are getting the athletic cream of the crop in their respective states, they will continue kicking behind. Those 4 gulf coast states are just powerhouses....I think the state of Mississippi is strong also but the talent is divided too much between 3 schools.

That's why I said Boise State needs to stay in the MWC instead of going to the Big East.. These next two years will be their best shot at a national title. Come 2014 it is gonna be close to be impossible. Pretty much hope all the conference champs have 1-2 losses and they have to go undefeated.

This will go to 8 teams for sure and maybe 16 down the road because more and more people see how this is all about the money and nothing about the student-athletes so they can't use that excuse anymore when the other divisions have been doing it for years.

The most they are going to have is 8 teams. 16 teams would water down the experience too much.

I think most people would want 16 teams so that champions of the 11 conferences would be included in a postseason playoff. But this thing is going to expand down the line, considering it has been estimated $5 billion could be the booty with just a four-team playoff.

This 4 team deal is supposedly locked in for 12 years. So, I am not sure that anything will happen anytime soon. However, anything is possible.

And by most people, are you referring to the common fan, or the people that really matter?

It's gonna happen... a lot of these smaller conferences are gonna cry foul and all they have to do is point to every other NCAA sport that has a playoff with all the conference winners.

WE know the big boys got all the stroke and money and it can go a very long way but it can only go so far.

This is what I think. The non AQ schools will net revenue from this post season playoff system. The question becomes is it enough to massage them into being quiet and not filing a class action law suit. This playoff system without a doubt to me looks like a violation of anti trust laws and is nothing more than a monopoly inside of one organization with multiple entities. Coward which is head of this committee made a big deal out of it several years ago. I would like to know why he has not only changed his mind but have become a champion for this new format (something is rotten in Denmark).

I've been saying this. A few of these smaller schools are going to have to stick to their guns and ride it out instead of running to other conferences (Boise State, Utah, TCU (although thats a more natural fit for them in the Big 12).

When a group of them decide to ride out a lawsuit, they will win....

What group?lol Tulane? Rice? Idaho?

Meaning C-USA/MWC super conference, the WAC (if it's still around), the MAC, and Sun Belt? Yes... one school would probably lose but a group or even a conference and they would stand a great chance.

The 4 team playoff basically boils down to this: We'll break yall off twice what you are getting now for being FBS schools but you can't compete for the national title.

Only in FBS football does that happen. Even in a sport like basketball, even tho it was a longshot, Valley and Norfolk State had a chance to win the national title in basketball this year. That fundamental flaw is what's going to do them (the big boys) in. They don't even allow them a chance. 5 FBS conferences don't have a chance at the national title no matter what they do. That's too many voices to go unheard. Somebody is going to grow some balls

Yeah, but the problem is all the non-AQ conference commissioners voted to approve the BCS and have approved the four-team playoff.

I am not sure you are correct regarding the four team playoff approval. It is my understanding that a committee chaired by Tulane's President and other presidents chiefly represented by AQ conferences.

Like I said, the largest grouping will be 8. I actually would prefer them just to do a 6-team playoff, with No.1 and No.2 getting a first-round bye. Those non-AQ teams are going to whine no matter what. You do a 16-team playoff, then you run the risk of watering down the regular season, and destroying the classic bowl system. Despite what you think about those bowl games, they give a lot of teams good TV coverage that they may not get. Plus the non-AQ schools will complain about having to always play on the road throughout the length of the playoffs. Cap the playoff at 6 or 8 and move on. If they don't like it, then tell them to move down to the FCS. That's what most of those teams are anyway.

To be honest I don't think there should be a playoff at all.

If everyone is so concerned about the short-term and long-term health of football players in general, why are we demanding these guys (college kids no less) play extra games to further abuse their bodies and brains?
