Former Southern Cal AD Mike Garrett to be named AD at Langston University

LANGSTON, Oklahoma -

Former University of Southern California Heisman Trophy winner and athletic director Mike Garrett will be named the new athletic director for Langston University.

Garrett replaces Patric Simon, who left Langston in April to take the athletic director position at Alcorn State University.

Garrett will be introduced to the public at a news conference on Thursday, June 7 at 10 a.m. on the university campus. He will assume the position in July.

"We are pleased that Mr. Garrett has bought into our vision of moving our athletic programs and University to a higher level of competition and visibility," said LU President Kent Smith, Jr.

That's interesting...I was informed a few months ago that our former women's B-Ball coach had been hired...but I guess that was not true.
 



It is my understanding that the goal and direction is to move the program to NCAA Division I status and SWAC membership. It should be interesting to follow.

Langston University is currently the only HBCU public funded institution with a football program that operates at the NAIA membership level.
 
They could move to the SWAC and replace JSU. Too bad Pat left that good job to come to Alcorn...talk about bad career moves.

It amazes me how you haters (MF) always have JSU in your conversations. That tells me you all sleep, think and allow your life to revolve around JSU. I bet ya'll go to the clarionledger every day to see what is happening at TIGER WORLD.

You know there are some who refer to Langston as the second home of Gramblinites. I was talking to Dr. Jones who is a GSU alum and VP there and they have a number GSU alums in administration. That's actually where Russell Leday is located.
