Here is my question.... How much does it take to dress, feed, educate, and travel a football team? How many SWAC schools actually make/raise/earn enough money to meet these extremely large budgets? How much of that money is generated by gate revenue/donations/state money? In my experiences Valley can't sell enough tickets to fill up there visitors bleachers, so how do they not stay I the negative very year in football? If your losing money and losing games then why do you continue to piss off tax payers money?

I didn't even have to read your post to knew it was about Valley... some of yall are REALLY delusional.

And this is why we as black people can't accomplish anything. Making fun instead of let's come up with ways to see that we all succeed instead of being crabs in the basket, pulling each other down.

I certainly don't expect any of you to agree with the premise if this topic. Resistance to change is inevitable even when the facts are right in your face. JSU is not the only school that should be D1 from the SWAC. I left room for a few more with potential. Bamastate could remain but they are in for a huge failure if this stadium situation doesn't work out. SU has all the potential in the world but their administration is so discombobulated that it would profit SU to go d2 or suspend their athletic program until they get themselves in order. That new inexperienced AD is certainly not going to pull them out if the mess they are in.

The basic question is :
Do we want 20 Prairie Views or do we want 4 or 5 competitive FCS schools.

If hbcus want to continue to be the Prairie View of FCS we can continue to do what we are doing. If we want to grow and be competitive and put a champion on the field we have to do something different.
This right here is the truth.

And this is why we as black people can't accomplish anything. Making fun instead of let's come up with ways to see that we all succeed instead of being crabs in the basket, pulling each other down.

Whenever we stop it, we will be a force to be reckoned with (the entire SWAC and not just one school).

What are you going to compete with? We can't even beat the Sam Houston St's of the world.

We can if we stop destroying ourselves and consolidate our efforts. We are weak becuase there are too many of us. There is too much competition for the few players that can make a difference. Now its about to get even harder with new academic guidlines. Most of you would even THRIVE on the D2 level but the fact that somebody black is bringing this up makes you angry.

Some of you are not competing in the SWAC. Some of us compete in the SWAC but if we were to step outside of the SWAC you would get 80 points dropped on you (look at PV v BCU). And non of us need to try anything other than BCF. We cant beat Samn Houston State, hell we cant compete with Jacksonville State or Delta State or Arkansas Montecello.

Im beginning to think that as long as we have these monkey shows at halftime, 75% of us are content. Dont mess with the football, dont try to get better, just leave things the way they are, and we can boogie at halftime and go to the club during the 3rd quarter.

I am like you. Love the bands, but we need to put more into our athletic programs than we put into the bands. You are right, we could not even compete with the Gulf Coast Conference.

Let's get this thing right. Work together so we have the resources to compete!

We need to put more into academics first then everything else will take care of itself. Research brings in money. People will take a HBCU more serious when they see HBCU's really focus and trying to enhance academically, once that happens, money will come including for athletics. Why do you think people always bring up Hampton, Howard, Morehouse, Spellman etc. Academics, once money is thrown at the universities, they can easily transfer funds to athletics to enhance that area. We need to hold our Presidents more accountable. If alumni are on one accord, much can be done but when you have the cliques within the alumni, it's very hard to get things done, we as black have forgot united we'll stand, divided we fall, until people realize that once again, we will continue to struggle. BTW, Black people are their worst enemy, tear down each other on a daily basis and most people that do it, doesn't have the room to. Who in the hell in the SWAC can say another school belongs somewhere else when all of our universities have problems. Lets be real.:read:

**** academics ...that's a smoke screen. Do you actually think these players at D1 schools are smarter than ours? Hell no. They just hide their dummies better. That kid from LSU scored a 6 on the wonderlic. I know players that went to Miss State that couldn't read instructions on how to throw piss out a window. But we let the NCAA come in and tell us our players are dumb and our stupid asses panicked and bought it. We have got to be the stupidest conference and collectively the most incompetent bunch of black folks in history. ...not as stupid as the isrealites leaving Egypt but you get my drift.

i agree, im starting to think that the NCAA are using us as ginune pigs on this apr stuff. they dont have the moxie to put all these big time fbs schools under all of these penalties so they just use us to try out their new so called "revolutionary" rules to make themselves feel good. if you ask me an athlete who has a degree from a hbcu will be much more successful than one from any other school because we don't have basket weaving as a major. look at the major African american studies programs at most of these schools, most of them are filled with athletes. its looked upon as an easy major. why don't the ncaa look into that

Who said they're smarter, but i guarantee their academic programs bring in the money also and they do things to get money, hell many HBCU's don't realize they can write grants to get tons of money but many don't do it. Just because you personally know some people that got into Miss State doesn't mean didly squat, that's only a small percentage, so isolated, but lets be real majority of student these days that think academics doesn't think about most HBCU's but we as colleges and alumni must change that perception. HBCU's have always focused on educating our own, hell that's why they opened but we can't do what we did in the 50's and 60's, it's all about survival of the fittest. We have to work much harder than PWC's, not fair but it is what it is and it has always been that way. Some of you think so damn backwoods and don't think realistically. College is nothing but a business and you must do anything in your business to survive.

For definite sure JSU TennSt SC State FAMU and Hampton should be the group that remains at the D1 level. Most of the rest of you need to go D2. Schools like SU Grambling Valley and Alcorn would thrive on the D2 level. A&M definitely should go back to D2. This is definitely not the place for them.

Just look at the Texas schools. PV has always been a loser and Texas Southern is falling apart day by day. Why wont they end the nightmare of trying to compete at a level thats just not made for them. The state of Texas hates them and their few graduates dont care much for them either.

EXACTLY.

I only speak of things that I know about, and I spent 5 years as an educator at Valley. If something doesnt change quickly, academically, athletically, and financially, then it's gonna be a very dark cloud hovering over Itta Bena and there will be nothing David Jordan or Bennie Thompson can do about it.

Because they have the money and make the money to keep the NCAA off of their backs. You make an excellent point!

This is why I laugh at these fools when they start talking about this kind of stuff. I wish the day would come when JSU ran like hell from this conference. I swear I do because we got some backwards azz tea party mentalities when it comes to thinking in this conference. :smh:

With all the money we see lately being given to JSU, SU, PV, TxSU, Alcorn, etc for academics through grants do you really believe most of our schools don't know how to write grant requests?
