Big 12 And SEC Announce Major Bowl Partnership

The Big Ten and Pac-12 aren't the only major football conferences with official buddies now. The SEC and Big 12 have linked arms -- setting up a "new January bowl tradition," as Mike Slive calls it -- pairing their conference champions or runners-up beginning in 2014.

While SEC and Big 12 champs missing the playoffs would be a very, very rare event, the importance here is that the two have effectively created another Rose Bowl, and one that would quite often trump the Granddaddy, at least in terms of highly-ranked football teams. It also creates a very clearly defined upper tier in college football, with everyone from the ACC on down all but walled off from the highest level.

Sounds like JerryWorld is getting a bowl game.

With one hell of a draw in any given year............... Bama, Auburn, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State & Georgia to name a few..........Old Jerry is in cow and hog heaven. :emlaugh:

This is the end of the Sugar Bowl as we know it, the Bayou Classic will be of more importance to the city than anytime before.

Never really looked deep into the new format. However, I am guessing that the Sugar Bowl may play a role in that new playoff format and get the national title game on a revolving basis......

it's the best #5 fallback plan in history in case the unthinkable happens and none of them are ranked in the top 4

All that is happening is the Big 4 conferences are trying to separate themselves from the rest of the conferences.

Big 10 and Pac 12 already have a marriage with the Rose Bowl, now the SEC and Big 12 will have a huge bowl as well. I need to see how they will operate if all 4 conferences have the top 4 teams. But yeah this is a sweet move by the SEC and Big 12.

Another reason for Florida State to leave the ACC. Poor ACC and Big East about to be shut out by the other 4 conferences.

It is a great fall back plan if none of those conferences had top 4 teams which we know is unlikely. Now what happens if all those conferences have the top 4 teams. Does the Rose Bowl and now this new bowl become the playoffs?

Florida State and Jackson State are in the same boat....We need to leave our conference and go to greener pastures lets go Seminoles......OOOOOO OOO OOO OOOOHHHH.....doing the tomahawk chop!

Why wouldn't they just use the Sugar Bowl for this game? Jerry already has the Cotton Bowl which is pretty much an unofficial BCS game.

I am guessing the Sugar Bowl will be above this bowl because of having a BCS bowl designation which comes with the territory of hosting a national championship game. The Jerry World Bowl cannot host a national championship game.........
