Morehead State To Name Sean Woods as New Basketball Coach

 Agreed statement right here! Woods was smart go out on top....he did improve but to say was a great coach is a stretch but he did well..The OVC is a conference on the rise as a mid major school and with the addition of Belmont its looking real good in basketball next year will be rough for Woods but he will be aight!

The OVC is going to be Belmont and Murray State then a VERY LARGE drop off after those two.

Why did you respond to him?

The next coach (hopefully like Woods.. a young upcoming one who can recruit and coach DEFENSE) will do the same thing. I EXPECTED Valley to win the SWAC this year (I didnt expect 17-1 but I knew we would win) because it takes a good coach about 3-4 years to get their system and players in place at a small school. Green took 4 years. Woods took 4 years. The next coach will do the same thing because Valley has a lot of young players.

Valley - 2 SWAC titles in 5 years
Jackson State - 0

Man don't bring me no bull. Why did you say in the last 5 years? Since the history of the swac JSU has won 10 regular season champions and valley has won 6. Tourney champs both JSU and valley are tied at 5. Therefore, JSU has the edge.
Valley folks can't talk because remember, JSU folks have lobbied to keep ya'll open, I know because we make up the majority of the protesters in downtown Jackson when the state tries to close valley every 5 years.

Furthermore, valley need to stop hiring coaches who only come for 3-5 years and use valley as a stepping stone. I admire SU for bring on Banks, one of their own to coach. Ya'll turned down a winner in Ivory to get an "SEC" player like former coach green, he played at ole piss and woods played a kentucky. valley alumni accept those kind of folk over their own who can win. These coaches know they can come into valley and do what ever and nobody complains.

Example (Baseball Shanks who can't win even with all of his hooded players and green and woods one a championship one time and left ya'll high and dry. These coaches wouldnt dare come to one of the big three and pull that crap.

see what happens when people try to have rational SPORTS discussions........

Newflash: The SWAC, as a whole, is a stepping stone conference. Some of us SWAC alums are realistic when it comes to the current state of affairs in SWAC athletics while others (like your school) think they are a Jaguar but really got the motor of a Kia Soul.

When yall decide to fire Anderson and get a new coach that has no SWAC ties, watch how fast he leaves yall on the first train smoking.

You must think highly of us to say that "we think we are a Jaguar but really got the motor of a kia soul". There is nobody on this board with that type of comparsion.

That's some weak smack 662. Lets look at the endowment
JSU endowement is 54 million
valley is 9 million :Now you tell me which car is more expensive?

Most of the time I don't even respone to valley folk. They are tier 4. I only argue with the BIG 3 because we have trophies, tradition and championship to back us up.

How much do you think he is making at Butler?

If Brad was making at least 400K in 2011. I would think his assistants would make 200K. And that was without bonuses.

Morehead's last coach was making 180K.

Butler's guy would have cost more not much more but than Woods.

Woods just did what Tim Miles did at Colorado State. Only difference is Tim got the biggest deal in Nebraska history.

When you look at "Return-On-Investment".......I think Valley has most of us beat in this area. In most sports (excluding football at the moment) Valley does very well considering the amount of money they spend in comparison to the rest of the schools in the conference.

Refresh my memory, who just won the SWAC Men/Women Regular Season Basketball Titles, and just Sunday a 7th softball title????

And I bet your the type of guy saying the "hooded player" is holding you back. Dude get into2012 and out of the 1940's

Do you think before you type.......no don't even answer that because I know you don't. Woods conference record during his 4 years at Valley...........

2011-12 17-1
2010-11 12-6
2009-10 8-10
2008-09 7-11

So as you and any blind person can see that each year they improved, so it wasn't some flash in the pan overnight success. I keep telling ya'll if it's one thing Valley can do is kick ass in basketball and softball. Stribling, Green, and Woods all had success at Valley, and I don't doubt the next coach will succeed also.

You are 100% correct. I don't know what some other posters are seeing, but winning the SWAC in the fasion that Woods did is impressive. How many times do we get to see a good record in the SWAC for basketball?

Why in heck does anyone want to hire someone that doesn't have advancing there career as a goal. Some of these described coaches are working for retirement not to be the best. Valley is smart, find you a up and coming determined coach in win
