Softball downs UAPB 5-2 in SWAC Tourney Opener

The Jackson State softball team opened the 2012 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Tournament in grand fashion Thursday evening at the Shea Brothers Softball Complex. JSU used three solo home runs and timely hitting to beat the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions 5-2.

With the win JSU improves to a 30-26 overall record.

Jackson State will return to action Friday, May 11 at 8 pm to play the winner of the Alabama State/Texas Southern game.

Alabama A&M softball: Bulldogs battle back to beat Prairie View in SWAC tourney

IRONDALE, Alabama - Alabama A&M overcame an early three-run deficit and battled back to beat Prairie View 4-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament Thursday night at the Shea Brothers Softball Complex.

The Panthers erupted for three runs off of Anisa Britt in the third inning, but Cassandra Brown came on and got out of the jam and the Bulldogs scratched and clawed their way to their first tournament victory since 2007.

A&M (13-25) will play the Grambling/Mississippi Valley State winner tonight at 8. Prairie View fell to 19-18.

Down 3-0 in the fourth, Shaquille Morris singled with two outs and scored on a throwing error to pull the Bulldogs within 3-1.

Irondale, AL - Junior Giana Robinson went 3-for-3 two runs, two RBIs, a homerun, and walked to help the Lady Tigers defeat the Lady Hornets 9-5 to open the SWAC Softball Tournament.

upset...lol....It was Christmas out there as we gave gifts to AAMU....when you throw a 2-hitter and strike out 8, you're supposed to win....

You cannot commit errors and expect to win......hope to play them again Saturday...good luck against valley
