Cador: ‘They’re going to have to do it today, or we’ll find somebody else’

The Southern baseball team was nearly finished, having managed five runs in 24 innings against a last-place team.

Six innings into the Jaguars’ series finale last weekend, they trailed Arkansas-Pine Bluff by seven runs. They were in very real danger of losing for the second time in three games.

Roger Cador had enough. He pulled a few players from the starting lineup, replacing them with veterans who’d spent most of this season in the dugout. Kevin Williams was one of them.

Williams — who played in 23 games last season, but only six games heading into the UAPB series — was summoned from the bench in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and two outs. He led a big rally with a three-run double, and Southern capped was on its way to a 13-7 series-clinching win.

“I knew (my chance) was going to come sometime soon,” Williams said. “I was just ready, working and preparing for the opportunity again, to come up here and help my team, to do what I needed to do to help us win."

Damn I didn't realize PV was 9 and 2.

The time is now for SU. Inconsistency must stop now.
