A&M vs Tuskegee, Troy vs UAB, and Miles vs Univ. of N. Alabama

Good planing and will be a good money maker for the city of B-Ham. All in-state schools converging on one city over 2 days. Hotels and tailgating spots are going to be a BYOTCH to get. If Jackson would do this at memorial with JSU, Alcorn and Valley, the place would be overflowing. I shudder to think what the tailgating section would be like. People would by tickets to others games just to go in and talk shat.

make your plan early Bammas.

Not sure about the 'Skegee/A&M game being here. When 'Skegee/A&M renewed their contract for 4 years, Skegee's plan was to play in Mobile when it was their time to be the home team.

Dude is adversiting an Alabama game in his sig. :smh:

As for the posted news report: Good Stuff. Good football with teams on similar levels. Not so sure how miles will match up with UNA but the other contests should be interesting. Do Troy and UAB typically play each other?

Yep.
They have played 7 times since 2000. Troy beat them by one point last year 24-23. UAB has a lead in the last 7 games 4-3.

83,
I think you may be overstating how big it will be. IMO, the biggest game (attendance wise) will probably be the A&M/Skegee game. The Miles game will probably draw more than uab and troy.

TP,
Yup, UAB and troy play each other

I don't know MH.

You are forgetting about the "white" HBCU band loving interest. Couple that with the fact you will have football for an entire weekend, the crowd might be larger than expected in B-Ham over what a single game will draw. The older alums might bolt after the game but the COLLEGE students will probably eat it up.

Money is money nowdays. Shole can't hurt inviting several teams in for a 2 day football weekend. They got to eat and will spend money. A win for the city since the BIG BOYs, (Bamma and Auburn), stopped playing there.

83,
I'm not knocking the idea. I think its great. I think the games will draw. (not sure that the troy/uab game will draw much more than they normally do) A Labor Day game in Bham works. No doubt about it. But I don't see it approaching the shut down the city, all the hotels sold out weekend that you're saying.

OK.......

From the post, ya'll saying that TROY and UAB basically has no following and this weekend will have to be carried by the HBCU's. Show them what ya'll made of. It would be gut busting funny if the Troy vs UAB game don't draw flies but the HBCU games draw large crowds.

Memphis and Mississippi State did that to us one year at the SHC. Memphis could not draw flies to shat in their own stadium yet JSU and Tennessee State come in and basically fill the place. They had the games on the same day with Memphis/MSU playing first. They tried to cancel the tailgating because they said traffic be too much and wanted people to show up during the dead time between games. THAT SHAT DIDN'T PAN OUT because JSU/TSU flooded the place all day.

Memphis and MSU didn't have 20,000 people at that game. JSU/TSU had 58,000 that night. It was funny as hell to see those memphis and MSU alums bugeyed at the sight of all those KNEE-GROWs packing the Liberty Bowl.

The sponser of the SHC warned them to NEVER do that again or the game will be moved back to Chicago like we did in the early 1990's.

This "dude" will put whatever the "L" he wants to in his sig. And speaking of sigs, take a look at that dumb arse mess you have in yours. :smh:

I think the uab/troy game might draw the smallest numbers.

There is actually "some" excitement around the UAB football program due to the new coach - so they might draw some in the first game...after that - well we'll see..but I have met Garrack and he is a great hire for UAB, I wish him well.

I agree.

Although neither UAB nor Troy has a really big following, this is becoming a decent rivalry, and since its the first game of the season, and against an in-state foe, they may actually do pretty good.

They still want out draw AAMU and TU. We will have a lager crowd than the other two games combined.

Miles folks will turn out in force for this game. I don't expect too much from UNA, but Miles will be well represented. But A&M vs Skegee should easily be the biggest game.

Cee, to be honest I am gonna withold judgement on that also. Traditionally 'Skegee has not drawn well in Bham nor A&M for that matter - when you factor in the number of alums in this area and what the A&M crowd SHOULD be - there have been games that A&M played at Miles and I have sat on A&M side with an entire section to myself - and thats on Miles campus stadium. The Labor Day Classic games on Sundays have drawn well because it's a Sunday evening, nothing else to do - that game does not have anything to compete with at that time -even if people have gone out of town for the Labor Day weekend, a lot of them have returned home to Bham by the time the game kick's off, there is not another game on TV that draws major interest - it's Sunday evening and you dont have to get up for work or church the next day - so a lot of 'real' factors come into play for that Sunday evening game.

I tried to tell ESPN execs the same thing when they were doing the MEAC/SWAC Challenge here initially...Saturday during the day was going to be too hot for "our crowd' to come out, Saturday evening you had other things to compete with - the best time for the MEAC/SWAC Challenge is Sunday evening - while they did move the game to Sunday, it's still a daytime game - now you have to compete with First Sunday church service AND the heat. And all you have to do is look at the year SU/FAMU played here in Bham...I think anyone on this board that is honest would agree that in a normal circumstance SU/FAMU is going to be a major draw - the HEAT won the game on that day - AND the very next evening (Sunday) Miles/Tuskegee outdrew the SU/FAMU game.

Um the A&M and TU games always draw well. When we played JSU in the Labor Classic we packed that game. Now Miles at their stadium for A&M probably wouldn't draw a crowd. A&M and TU is like a Bama St /A&M game. History is there and it is like a family reunion. The other two like Miles and Stillman there is no real history for us.

Tuskegee, Alabama A&M to play in Mobile in 2011 and 2013

Tuskegee University has secured a contract with Alabama A&M to play at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in 2012 and 2014, and athletic director Alvin Jackson said he also wants to play in Mobile in 2011 and 2013.

The Golden Tigers are eager to establish a presence in the Mobile area beginning with their game against Texas Southern a week from today at 1 p.m. at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

"We're excited about bringing our program to the Mobile area," said Jackson. "We have the signed contracts with Alabama A&M and are currently in the process of finding an opponent for the 2011 and 2013 seasons. We fully intend to play here those seasons."

Florida A&M, Southern, Grambling and Jackson State are some of the programs named as possible opponents.

Next week's game was initially scheduled to be played in Los Angeles but was moved due to promotional problems.

And Jackson made it clear that this game will in no way be similar to the now-defunct Gulf Coast Classic.

"We made an offer for them (Texas Southern) to play us in Mobile and they accepted," Jackson said. "I'm not familiar with what went on with the Gulf Coast Classic, but I can assure you this game is not going to be a classic. I'm not interested in events building up to the game. That costs money that could otherwise be used at my institution.

Gurantee you it won't be JSU.
Say MOBILE to our fans and they will by tickets to another game somewhere else.

JState83 now that article was from 2010, that's why I put the date in bold but I was also showing how Skegee had made their intentions known that they wanted to play their home game in Mobile.

 ............ OK.
More than likely for next year, JSU will schedule a home game for the open slot we got at the beginning of the season on Labor Day.

We don't wanna play in mobile. We want Bham. We run this state. The rest follows us.
