Doug Williams is afraid of competition

No way this can be true. I use to live in Lynchburg. The College has only three buildings and no one lives on campus. Most of the students are going to seminary.

Child, it's true. But not to worry. Broadway played them last year (NCA&T) and it's rumored that he'll play them again this year. So surely, if that "coaching guru" can play them.......yeah, him. The one that got OUTCOACHED by TexSouthern in 2010, with a 17-point lead going into the 4th QTR. Yeah, him. The one who coined the term "blood bath games" at GSU and only wants to play teams such as VUL and the like. Yeah, him... who would NEVER schedule a TCU and don't you dare mention the Razorbacks. (we've been in talks with them for a few weeks... HC, Prez and HBD).

Maybe we should have scheduled Portland State. They should come to us this time, since Doug tapped that azz in 2001. He was so sked you know.

I give a pass on the first loss to McNeese... we were in rebuild mode and Bruce wasn't ready at all. The second one was a case of pass happy offense against a team that was balanced and played good run defense.

Sorry, rebuild mode or not, McNeese was not 32 points better than us.

A&T was coming off a horrible season so they need all the momentum and a big win for a new coach is what they need. You are the SWAC Champions so what do you gain from playing?

I've already presented the case. With this coach it's one extreme or the other. Scheduling games against TCU and Arkansas may indeed be money games, but also gives Doug the automatic excuse to say at the end of the day, "We were simply outmatched". On the other hand nobody expects us to lose to VUL. None of these games will be competitive and in the process will not expose Doug's coaching deficiencies because they are so extreme.

It all boils down to Standards.. I don't give a hoot, who the coach, AD, or president is.. A man once told me that if you don't stand for something you will fall for anything. In we have fans and alumni that are falling for anything Doug presents (I don't think doug has anything to do with this game) in they don't like this game but because Doug might have put this together, they go along.. What's sadder is Broadway name pops up as a reason its ok to play this school.
Bottom line we need to start standing for something Before we be labeled as a fallen icon

All this whining won't change the schedule, either go to the game or not, simple as that. If it was Tuskegee the same people that complain year in and year out will complain, plain and simple. No one has stated that they actually know the in state schools were interested and did they have room? hmmmmmmmmmm

You make too much sense. We come from a 1-4 record, capture 8 STRAIGHT wins, are crowned SWAC champions and these cousins of donkeys are still finding crap, yes that's right...CRAP to swell up about. Go get some Midol and STHU. One thing is for sure. They will NOT approach Doug to his face about it. Man up! Woman up! Go tell him to his face. Stop hiding behind the keyboard and a website. To top it off, you pull in the "Amen corner" from the other SWAC schools and they WISH they had it like we got it. They chime in, hollin "Amen" and can't buy a SWAC trophy, much less win one. Child, pa-leeze.

Standards need to be set on who we play, period...
Now on what tiger diva says, lady you a firecracker, you seem to love altercations. But sometimes it has to be for the good of Grambling,

In 7 seasons, Doug has won 4 conference championships and 2 BCF National titles and has a .743 winning percentage (real good). It is not fair to measure him against FBS schools since they have more resources and scholarships. Under Doug's 7 year watch Gram has played 3 FBS schools and 4 schools D-2 or below (not bad). Below is his FCS formerly I-AA record (winning record) against out of conference foes:

Doug vs FCS out of conference record 6-4
1998 loss to Hampton
1999 loss to Hampton
2000 defeated Florida A&M
2001 defeated Nicholls State and Portland State,
2002 defeated TNST and Morris Brown; loss to McNeese,
2003 Defeated Savannha State loss to McNeese

(In my un-bias opinion Doug has done a great Job and all of this whining and finger pointing is unwarranted. Also in 7 years he has played 4 FCS games against PWC inclusive of 3 against Louisiana)

The record is 6-4, JROCK. Good post! :lecture:

Doug is a good coach and an okay guy... still, I will tell him (IN PERSON) that I don't agree with his stance on playing in state school AND my opposition to scheduling schools lke VUL. To Doug's credit, he's man enough not to say weak azz shit like "B'way played them" because he knows that has not one damn thing to do with him and his coaching/scheduling.
Folks, its okay to disagree with Doug...he won't stop speaking to folks just because they have a different opinion.

I understand trying to help a new program get started...but Grambling needs to help itself. I hope that in the future our Athletic Department will do an actual marketing survey of it's fans/alums to see how the masses feels about scheduling in-state schools. We have too many people that are afraid to say "The Emperor doesn't have on any clothes".

I have Doug's number, he has mine. We disagree all the freaking time, cuss each other out and go on about our business. But I would NEVER slam him on front street. Didn't do it with GSU coaches of other sports, (who maintained losing records), ain't gonna do it now. It's a sorry thing to do. Just plain sorry.

And as for the reference to Bway..... I bet you money if he had NOT played them, had refused to play them, someone would have used that information to trash Doug. "Meanwhile in Greensboro"...

ummm SOGGY,
what say you?

It is not fair to measure him against FBS schools since they have more resources and scholarships.

Exactly, I made that very point previously in this thread. He can instantly hide behind the "they have more resources and scholarships" excuse. His coaching deficiencies won't be exposed. The same applies when he schedules extremely weak teams.

Under Doug's 7 year watch Gram has played 3 FBS schools and 4 schools D-2 or below (not bad). Below is his FCS formerly I-AA record (winning record) against out of conference foes:

I don't think Savannah State and Mo. Brown where D1-AA teams when they played. I think your information is incorrect.

You should know by now that I don't address guttersnipes. It is beneath me.

Nothing has changed. Doug is afraid of competition.

Throw down the gauntlet and kudos to you for bringing this to "front" street... ain't like this is a malady that affects Grambling only. Our coaches are being let off the hook playing these schools... As for B'way and the other coaches doing that, I really couldn't make myself care if I tried. I'm wanting to see Grambling get our edge back recruiting within the state of Louisiana. If it's being said over here on "front" street you can bet it's being told to those recruits in there home by those schools that are in-state. Anyone bother to look at the roster of kids that signed with Northwestern and Southeastern?

Man, Doug and Andre worked their butts off on those kids and tried to get them to come to Grambling. Why did those kids choose Northwestern and Southeastern over us? In the past, it was blamed on the coaching staffs... I didn't agree with that as being the reason then nor now. Hell, I know Doug recruits and I know damn for sure Andre Robinson recruits and promotes Grambling to the fullest. What has happened is these kids are now seeing Northwestern and Southeastern's program as being above ours. I happen to disagree that they are and I want to play them on the field to prove it...before it really is too late. Newsflash...We're losing ground!!!!

You guys seem to understand that sometimes, keeping it in house is not the best cure, especially when others will see the product and results on the field in person. We don't agree on everything, but this something we do. Sometimes, dirty laundry must be aired so it can be cleaned and made brand new.

You guys have BH's respect...:bowdown:thumbs up

I have question for tigerdiva1908.....What do you have against Broadway?

Isn't winning what sports is all about? At the end of the day, a coach is measured by his wins and losses, not his personality.

Did people care about the attitude of the 80s Miami Hurricanes and coaches OR did they care about winning those Championships?

Andre Robinson is a great coach I wish Alcorn would interview for the Head Coaching Job. BUT, I know he has been for Grambling through rough and the good times and I can do nothing else but respect that. GREAT COACH!!!!!

I guess I should have been more specific in my criticism of Doug and his scheduling. I should have said that he is afraid of "white" competition.

Try again.
That 2012 Mississippi State game was set up the same year we played them in 2009.

Mississippi state coach said then he was going to play the 3 FCS schools on a rotating basis. The next year, 2010, he had Alcorn and Brandon Bridges. Valley was supposed to be last year but the year before, Valley didn't get any recruits and they let that game fade off the schedule.

Watch................ Next year it will be Alcorn again.

Regardless, we are not trying to talk to any 1-AA teams with MS State on the other end. They are the same way with us. I have seen it happen MANY times. Heck, when we played New Haven it was becasue USM kept us hanging on for months with a "maybe" and then finally told us no. This still happens.

...and whatever Valley did to get out of the game, kudos to them. I hope this is our last trip to Starksville. I would rather play Delta State.
