Texas AM fires Mike Sherman

Not shocked. It was no way Texas A&M could go into the SEC with Sherman as the head coach. Oh well. It gets worse for Ole Miss with A&M having an opening in the SEC now. LOL.

This was an excellent move for A&M's program... the guy who gets that job will be sitting on a gold mine.

Yep! I agree. Now that the job is open it will attract some interesting candidates. Sumlin is on their wish list. But now every SEC assistant who wants to be a head coach will want to apply for that job. Even some other Head Coaches who want to be in the SEC will apply. This gig got better with the SEC move. Now they just got to hire the right guy and not be stingy with the pay. They have to pay like they want to win the SEC and get the best coach available who knows how to recruit in the SEC area and Nationally. Texas will be a given since they already have that certain kid who want to stay close to home. If Mack Brown don't tighten up in Austin and depending who the next A&M coach is. He is going to face a recruiting battle. Now the A&M coach can say do you want to go to Texas and play in the Big 12 minus 4 or do you want to come play in the best football conference vs the best players. The Aggies now have more to offer just by being in the SEC.

JR this was already a done deal when they signed on with the SEC and before Coach S was fired!

Sumlin wanted such-and-such to be his o-coord (former SWAC HC). :read: Oh, this has really, really gotten interesting.

Not so sure if the racial climate @ aTm is ready for a black HC for their fball program.

Mike Sherman had to get fired @ A&M. No way is a program supposed to blow 5 doublt digit 2nd half leads in one season. The Aggies were beating the Schyatt out of Arkansas and let them back in the game in the 2nd half. They did the right thing in firing him.......

 sho you right!

They are not but they want to win more!

You as a parent of recruit and wife of former star player have a huge say-so in what's what. :read:

Sumlin & his staff have proven themselves, IMO. Not so sure where the o-coord came from because such-and-such was offered that position for 175,000$ back in the gap. :read: It would be neat to see Sumlin and his staff take their talents to aggie land. I just hope they're ready to learn the cotton-eyed-joe and dip skoal/copenhagen as part of the job requirement. Those folx are kinda' backwards over there lol. :emlaugh:

The Okie State and Texas games did Sherman in. No way aTm should have lost those two games.

IMO, the verdict is still out on Sumlin. I would like to see how he does without Art Brile's recruits (namely Keenum). I just think UH's program is fool's gold when factoring in the level of competition in that conference. Tulsa was the only halfway decent program that they've beaten this season.

Kevin Sumlin on the wish list.

The way they kept blowing 20 plus point leads in the 4th qtr, they knew they could not have that shat happening next year in the SEC. Change of conference, change of coaching caliber. May as well start as fresh as you can the 1st year and build.

Sumlin does know A&M. Wasn't he on staff there way back in the day? Before he went off the OU? I still say if I am him, I take the ASU job instead. He will have a longer leash over there to turn them around than in College Station.

Anyboby think they would be interested in Tommy Tuberville? He was on Slocum's staff back in the day before taking the Ole Miss job. Plus he knows the SEC after coaching at Ole Miss and Auburn. It is only so much he can do at Texas Tech. He may be a better fit at A&M than Sumlin. I think he would do pretty well in Aggie Land. Plus he knows how the SEC is.

The "Riverboat Gambler" at Texas A@M would give SEC teams fits. That would probably be the SEC WEST "bad dream" come true as for a new team comming in with knowledge of how to play those SEC teams and what it is like on a weekly basis in that conference.

Funny that you mentioned Tulsa. Tulsa's most recent o-coord was a former HS coach @ Stephenville, naturally as Briles was as well. Those guys have a formula for success that's working @ the collegiate level.

I feel you on Briles recruits but on the flip side, Sumlin and staff could've pissed those recruits off and gone o-fer while making excuses that the current crop wasn't their folk. I think they adjusted and complimented the talent that was arleady there. I haven't seen uofh play this fall but if they pit them in a BCS bowl, 9 times out of 10, I'm not so sure they'll do too good (based upon history only).

Frat. That was my thinking too. He was on staff during A&M's hey day under RC Slocum. So he knows the Aggie faithful and their attitudes/ways. He has coached at Ole Miss and Auburn with some success at both. So he definitely understands what type of athletes he needs to play SEC ball. If I am A&M, I go talk to Tuberville.

I think the a&m folks will look at his most recent experience at Tech (all the blowout losses) and pass on Tuberville. They do need a coach with SEC connections though. Some have mentioned Kirby Smart but it looks like Sumlin is the frontrunner.

For real.

I said they should go get Tuberville as soon as they said they was joining the SEC. If I'm Texas A@M, I would go after him hard. He know the SEC, he know TEXAS, and he know how to recruit TEXAS and the SEC States east of the Mississippi. This is a no brainer if you really think about it. He would be a perfect fit for Texas A@M.

Fugga Art Briles! People down on the Water are still pissed at how Stephenville was always La Marque's nemesis under Briles. If UH goes to a BCS bowl, they'll lose.

But that is Tech. He had no choice but to run that offense they do. Folks were scared when they hired him that he would take the fun out of what Leach had done. I think he is handcuffed at Tech. If the Aggies folks are just looking at that record THIS year then they are stupid. Tuberville knows how to win in the SEC. Who knows if Kirby Smart or Sumlin can do that. I don't want those brothers dealing with the Aggie foolishness. LOL. Tuberville is one of them Republican Necks and he fits right in. They better look at his whole body of work. You can only do so much in Lubbock.

Not to mention he knows Florida too. He was Miami's DC back in the day when they won National Titles before coming to Aggie Land where he was the DC and they went 10-0-1. I had forgotten how successful he was as an assistant. He even won at Ole Piss. LOL. Had only one sub-500 season there.
