COUNTDOWN TO ARMAGEDDON - LSU ALABAMA

Honestly, I would rather see a Stanford, Boise State or even a Case Keenem-led Houston Cougar bunch in the title game.

For two weeks we heard Bama-LSU was "the game of the century." If that was, then give me my 100 years back.

Besides, everyone has their own determination of what a great game is to them. Many people thought Game 6 of the World Series this year was a great game. It wasn't a great game. It was a sloppy, poorly managed game for the first eight innings. The last three innings were great, though.

Two weeks ago the Jaguars beat the Ravens 12-7 on Monday Night Football. Nobody said that was great game. Nobody said it was even a good game or mildly entertaining.

But a 9-6 college game is one of the best game of the season? That wasn't a great game. That was great defensive effort by both teams aided by turnovers and poor special teams play.

Why are you so negative? Think positive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nah, people get a close game confused with it being "great."

Game 7 of the 1991 World Series between the Braves and Twins was a great game. Why? It was a well-played and pitched game by both teams even though the score ended up being 1-0. Super Bowl XXV between the Bills and the Giants was a great game because it was a well-played football game. Neither team turned the ball over once that night.

Bama-LSU was close and tense game (due to what was at stake) but it was not a great or exciting game, though.

kendrick, dude, the more you talk, the more it's obvious that you don't know great defensive football when it stares you right in the face. Both of these teams have been racking up 30-45 points per game against everyone else, but neither team had faced a defense as tough as it would be last night. These were two of the best defensive games in the country. Trust, your precious Boise State would've done no better on the offensive side against either of these two teams. A lot of the offensive struggles last night were caused because both defenses were top notch defenses. Those interceptions were made by great defensive plays. The only thing I'll give you that was sloppy was Bama's field goal kicking. Nobody that really knows football expected this to be a high scoring game.

Like most situations, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. No one expected a high scoring affair, but not all of the offensive struggles were the result of good defense. Only one of those picks could be called a great play, and even that pass was grossly underthrown. Both of the picks Lee threw were just horrible passes. Special teams were a disaster for Alabama, and Nick Saban had some uncharacteristic brain farts as a coach. It was a really good game that fell a little short of being great.

Those interceptions were not great defensive plays. Both of those picks Lee threw were into double coverage. The only interception that was great defensive play was the kid from LSU taking the ball away from the Bama receiver at the goal line. I didn't expect a high-scoring game. But I didn't think it would be a battle of field goals and conservative decision-making (from an offensive perspective) by both coaches during much of that game.

I think Boise State would have scored a touchdown or two on both teams. They've already proven they could do that against an SEC opponent in their backyard this season. And every game Georgia wins only legitimizes Boise State. Oregon scored 27 against LSU. West Virgina scored 21 against LSU. Penn State got 11 against Bama. You telling me neither of these teams could score one touchdown against each other and they were supposedly the best teams in the country? I'll give you both defenses are great. However, there was a lot of bad offense out there as well.

Up to the minute Coaches Poll:

1. LSU
2. Stanford
3. Oklahoma State
4. Alabama
5. Boise State
6. Oregon
7. Oklahoma

both Stanford and Ok State will lose..... Stanford to Oregon and Ok State to Oklahoma.

I don't know about Oklahoma beating Ok St. Oklahoma lost Broyles for the season and they're defense is average at best. I tell you what though it will be very high scoring because both defenses suck.

Folks expected Tebow to suck though. They're saying Luck is the next Manning but more athletic. How do you determine that this early? lol

I've only seen Luck play twice. In the Orange Bowl last year against Va. Tech and last week against USC. He can move around pretty good for a cat his size, and he's tremendously accurate. Some folks out there are saying he's the best college QB prospect since Elway. But I think a lot of folks are sleeping on Matt Barkley. That kid is legit.

You do realize that Georgia has skated in the SEC this season. They ended up getting Miss. State, Ole Miss, and Auburn on their schedule this year(they will be exposed in Atlanta). The only ranked teams they have faced were South Carolina and Boise State and they lost both games. There is no way you can use 1 win in the 1st game of the season as your reason for placing Boise State in the title game over a 1-loss Oklahoma, Arkansas, Oregon, or Alabama.

Yeah Luck looks good right now but the kid from Baylor looks even better and is more accurate. Not to mention more athletic. I've watched a lot of Luck because I'm a Pac 10 fan and I think he can be good but they are setting the expectations waaaaaayyyy too high. Now Barkley I'm iffy on because lately USC QB's haven't been panning out well.

It's subjective. If Boise St and LSU are the only two undefeated teams left then I wanna see those two play in New Orleans. If Boise St gets blown out then their hype would end. If Boise St wins or keeps it close then it validates them imo.

No way he can be worse than Tebow.

Give Tebow some time please. The Broncos are just that bad with 0 weapons on offense. There is a reason why they were horrible last season and started off 1-4 this season. You can't win in the NFL with a poor OL, poor RBs, poor WRs, and inconsistent defense.

Looking at the AP Poll:

1. LSU
2. Oklahoma State
3. Stanford
4. Alabama
5. Boise State

It appears that with Oklahoma State still having to play Oklahoma and Stanford still having Notre Dame and Oregon left, Alabama could finish #2 ahead of Boise State. People have forgotten all about Boise State because they had that one hyped game at the very beginning of the season and haven't played 1 decent team since.
