President Obama and the expectation of the black community

How many Alumni do LSU's have vs. SU? How many programs LSU school offer vs. SU that are considered high paying once you graduate? How many big companies in a Louisiana (for example hire LSU grads over SU's and GSU's)

The reasoning you bring up makes it easy for the REAL crocks "the government" to say.."Yeah.. you heard one of their own people say it.. they don't even give back to that piece of crap of a school we barely fund"....

Stop giving those that are primarily responsible an out.

Thats not giving an out - it's the truth. It matters not the number grads LSU has vs SU - even still on a comparible basis how much do our alums give back or support our own financially...I can tell you now at Bama St we still have people that wont give cause they made that LC Cole got fired - or they didnt like Joe Reed or they dont like John Knight - damn the fact that you need to support your school - not the individuals .

If the govt had provided individual taxpayers the equivilent of the stimulus package that was given to wall street/big businesses - how much of that money would black people had re-invested back into our own schools, communities, providing some savings/financial education for our children instead of buying all the high priced clothes, the best weed, phatest rims etc?

The point is.. it's isn't enough of graduating HBCU folk ABLE to give back vs. the MANY that are able at PWC's that benefitted off of the money given to their school from the "government"

No the point is the one's that are able dont. Ok, let's say the Fed were to give HBCU's an allotment - that does not mean enrollment increases - that is up to those of us that love HBCU's to continue to try to stir young people to our schools - regardless of the amount of money the school has coming in - who is to say the HBCU increase majors offered - again that is up to those of us that love our HBCU's to pressure our boards and presidents to remain relevant - regardless of the amounth of money the school has coming in...Would additional funding help - hell yes of course but we are not doing what we can do regardless of funding. How many people from SU are killing the LA state legislature for trying to merge SUNO? That's SU alums and supporters fight - not the Fed Govt fight.

Y'all can forget about that. No families are getting fixed. There is only one way to fix it and that’s exterminating those that are trapped in that cycle. That won’t happen. So save the ones that want to be saved and muck everybody else.

I agree with this but how do you go about doing it? For the most part this is what's been going on all along but its a few of these families/kids have potential and just need a little guidance. Right now all of them are getting left behind.

No there are not. There are success stories being made every day. We just don't hear about them. I know it's hard for some to believe but there are plenty of kids that are making it out of the ghetto. Look at that Magnet school in Chicago that sent all those boys to college. Don't let the media fool you. For every Pookie there is a young brother who is making it.

Black people must help themselves and maybe we will get more help. BTW, Alumni hurt the HBCU experience by not giving back like they should.

You do know students and alum of both SU and SUNO been fighting our azzes off right? Again you are giving the government an out.. hell it's US fighting the GOVERNMENT (local) but still government... And that is the biggest issue that needs to be addressed in the case of HBCUs... Feds need to FIX local government to make things better for the HBCUs... Federal is sitting back like everything is all good and Local government is being FAIR.. we both know that's a LIE.. that is where the first BLACK president needs to step in...imo

Aight man... when Jindal and his crew brings the hammer down on GSU I want to see if you still going to blame the alumni.

You folks fail to realize that this America. The rich will always use the poor, and the poor will always try to get back from the rich, what they think the rich owes them.

Isht Cee.......not only just America. It is like that world wide. The rich and powerful want to use the poor and keep them poor. Nothing new.

Throughout the history of every civilization; less than one half of one percent of a nation's population has always controlled the other 99.9995 percent.

And again you miss the point - at no point EVER on an issue such as this will the FED be allowed or try to handle a state/local issue as such. You know how you change it - you change your legislature at the state level for supporting/not supporting your issues - not the POTUS for not coming in on a state/local issue - hell I guess Bush should have stopped the Jena 6 activities all together - that's his fault huh...unless there is a crime or something that appears to violate a federal law the fed will never overrule a state - and even if they think that's the case they cant just come in a say awwww hell naw - you cant merge these schools, and by the way give this school some more money.

Again, more money is always a good thing - and yes it would be great if there were more allocations to HBCU's but that aint an issue I gonna sweat the president about. While we at it though damn HBCU's - why not just ask for reparations for black folks? Why not pardon black men that have been sentenced in jail unfairly? Why not give black students more financial aid than white students? Why not pay black teachers and police officers more money for working in inner cities? I mean since the president can do these kinds of things right....

What's your policy on how you are going to specifically raise ONLY black unemployment? Your policy cant touch anyone else - just blacks? How are you going to solely increase funding for HBCU's - not all colleges or education in general - just HBCU's - especially when you have sooooooo many black folks going to college anyway and not droppin out of high school and you dont invest at the elementary school level so they WANT to go to college? And what's your policy for fixing families - those that can be since you said the answer is not in parents raising their own children and placing an importance on values etc - what do you do to fix those that can be fixed?

Do you know who all sits on the board of regent in Louisiana?
People are always voting to CHANGE legislature seatings... But that BOARD is made up of ALL LSU and TULANE grads. Cleo Fields (SU grad) tried to challenge the BIASED seating a few months ago... and LOST that battle because a judge found the board to be constitutional... This is when a BLACK PRESIDENT needs to open his damn mouth..

Stop giving these people an out man..

Ohh the BLACK PRESIDENT is supposed to overrule any state judges ruling that he doesn't like? Has the entire process been exhausted - has Cleo appealed etc - or is he waiting on the Black President to say I got this?

While you continue to talk about giving an "out" you have neglected to answer what your "in" would be - what you would do or addressed any of the questions I posed...

There are 3 branches of government and this constitutionality process is a part of the judicial branch, not the executive. The only final say on court decisions is the U.S. Supreme Court. There needs to be a court appeal.

and please dont complain about Pres Obama helping the black community when we dont do it ourselves. (well i do) hell its pulling teeth giving back to our beloved swac schools that we love so much. How many go to PTA meetings, go to neighborhood watches, mentor the youth, volunteer our time to the community. so maybe we should look in the mirror first instead waiting on Obama, Al and Jesse to help us out.

Very well said! And as an Obama supporter, I wholeheartedly agree with you, as do many, many of his supporters.

100000000000000% agrees. No President, program, mentor, mayor, can help you if you dont first look in the mirror and decide you want better for yourself. I grew up around poverty, drugs, teens having babies and with a father wandering in and out of the house but i wanted better.

THANK YOU!!!! As an Obama supporter, I don't expect him to do anything for me that I can't or am not willing to do for myself.

CO-SIGN!!!!

One of my homeboys (graduated high school & UAPB together) flat out refused to purchase a ticket to our annual UAPB/AM&N Scholarship banquet because he was mad at Coach Ivory for not playing another one our homeboys son (who eventually left for another school). And he said he wouldn't support UAPB because he felt like our interim AD should be the AD! Unfortunately, I know a WHOLE LOT OF FOLK who refuse to support UAPB because of things like this, or because they don't like how our teams performed; yet they belittle and degrade UAPB beyond shame. It's amazing how some people will sit back and talk about our HBCUs and won't lift a finger to help make them better. It's our responsibility, not President Obama, to want better and to have better.
