SOUTHERN Grambling, SU to clash

In an otherwise stormy time for Southern University — which, in the past few weeks, has fired athletic director Greg LaFleur and men’s basketball coach Rob Spivery — leave it to longtime baseball coach Roger Cador to offer a little common-sense advice.
“You don’t take it one day at a time. You don’t even take it nine innings at a time,” Cador said. “More like one strike at a time, one out at a time, one inning at a time. How about that?”
Whatever approach the baseball team has taken lately, it has worked.
The Jaguars have won 13 of their past 15 games since March 16, including six in a row against Southwestern Athletic Conference opponents.
At 11 a.m. Saturday, they’ll face Grambling for the first game of a doubleheader, kicking off their weekend series — one that always has a little different feel to it.
This, of course, is throwback weekend at Lee-Hines Field.
For the 10th straight year, the Jaguars (18-9, 10-2 Western Division) and Tigers (13-12, 8-4) will wear replica Negro League uniforms — a nod to some of the game’s greatest players and, as Cador always hopes, an educational tool for younger fans.
