Swac Basketball - Post Season (Alabama St & Texas Southern)


middlebrooks being on the floor makes all the difference for this team. they played terrible against tx xo when he went out and tried to blow that big lead. big ups for playing hard and giving themselves a chance to make plays that mattered down the stretch. if... they can get some front court help they could be good next year. their backcourt will be aiight next season with middlebrooks, washington, butler, and ivory.

let's go tx so!!

as for the rest of the crabs, don't like how they performed? beat them. straight forward and very simple. beat them. they beat everyone in the conference this year, and got so hot the last 9 regular season games and 3 tourney games they bout burned your retinas right out of your eye sockets (not the last 2 weeks...they didn't lose in feb). so hey, I figure the swac has 2 options when it comes to bama state.....lose to them or beat them, but what ever you gonna do, shut up and do it already!

again, I'll be the 1st person to buy a jsu sweat shirt, pom poms and a pair of season tickets to jsu football when they go ahead and move up. grow a pair and do that already. I'm not getting any younger....more handsome yes, but not younger.

He's really matured over the last few weeks into a decent pg. Adamu is going to be really good next season. Lew Jack has gotta add some shooters and some big boys to battle in the paint

Middlebrooks has improved a lot. He had a good game. I agree that LewJack returns a good nucleus with Middlebrooks, White, Butler, Washington. IMO, Washington has much potential.

did you see UAB last night?. I havent followed them, but former ASU guard Jamar Sanders is really good now, first team all conference usa. Averaged 18 a game.
Imagine if he had stayed at State.

he left state b/c he was listening to all the people who were telling him he was too good to be at bama state and playing in the swac. ward was at texas (at auburn now), fortson was at arkansas, and chavez davis was on his way to alabama. so he bounced. his departure along with desean porchea's death set the program back about 2 or 3 years.

CU looks like they're out there playing "PIG" "HORSE" "HUNG" they're so wide open on various offensive sets. :smh:

Coaching and recruiting, a serious problem in the SWAC w/ regards to mens AND womens basketball. :read:

I guess that's superior coaching and recruiting @ work @ Colorado University. :tup: Can't hate on that.
 
The problem with SWAC and HBCU coaches in general is they try to hire their homies for assistant even if their homie is garbage. They need to hire the best assistants rather than hiring the best homies.
 
Most of those schools are paying their assistants a salary close to what we're paying our head guy... And they have a much larger recruiting budget AND more fans who are boosters.

you cant use this excuse forever, we play to to to to many money games,not to be getting better or making money. You can find good kids in Basketball but you cant wait to their senior year to get them.

how many of you on this board have ever sat in a recruits living room, a legitimate one who could dominate the SWAC but is listening to a mid-major sell a pipe dream, and hear the reasons they won't consider us.

Colorado is/was Big 12 so they get second tier players which are still major players...

C'mon tbf, I'm sure a lot of us do that from time to time because the lil' segregated world some tend to dwell in is awfully small(er). I can't speak for others but all I do is listen to the recruit and their mom (mostly) and only on a few occasions I'll listen to the father speak. What stroke said up there ^^^^ is true. Waiting until their sr yr is not smart and neither is continual usage of that same old tired played out <b>excuse</b> of $$$$$. Just a few of the ones I knew who went JUCO (local Dallas guys only) and then went on to major programs weren't that hard to get to. :smh: Found'em on the courts/gyms around the metroplex and just started dialoguing w/ them and they dialogued back. What I found interesting is that they were actually willing to listen. My most RECENT example of this is a JUCO LBer who'll more than naught be vying for playing time @ Texas Tech University (enrolled last January) and a 19 y/o sprinter @ Texas Tech University who'd txt/call me on the regular to "speak" about these things. In 1.5 hrs after posting this as today is Thurs, I'll be lifting weights over lunch (1.5hrs only) w/ a kid currently enrolled @ TCU as a redshirt LBer. I listen to him, he listens to me (over the last 2 mos). :retard: Yeh, how hard is it? :rolleyes: Does PV not have a recruiting dept? :confused:

I'm beginning to think that SWAC coaching staffs, overall, just don't know <b>HOW and WHO</b> to recruit. And continual targeting of the same "prototypical" SWAC pdct isn't going to get the job done when it comes to competivity OOC, or even overall (my opinion). Do they NOT understand the word DIVERSITY? Gotttttttttttttt damn. :retard: But I need to be careful w/ my wording because this hits very close to home. I never steered my eldest children to the ACC and Mountain West. The ACC and Mountain West came looking for them while HBCUs sat on their sorry asses and I guess expected someone to do their job for them (recruiting lol) and recommend or BEG them to take a look-see. How stupid and how sorry. :tdown:

Well they get an added bonus because 2-3 of thier players recruited by the now fired Ricardo Patton are playing in the NBA. And thier current coach is from the area and coached at Northern Colorado. He knows tha area and has improved his win total every year.
Looking at his staff-he got guys that know the area, conference and have NBA ties. One guy has 30 years of coaching alone and they have Chauncy Billips's brother on staff.

Most of those schools are paying their assistants a salary close to what we're paying our head guy

What about community college guys? How can Morgan State get Todd Bozeman-he couldn't have been that cheap to hire? Tim McCarter at South Carolina State couldn't have been cheap either. He built that UTA Arlington team up that went dancing with his recruits. Sometimes you have to try to get some of these guys. Can Ricardo Patton, Melvin Watkins, Niel Doughtery, Will Willis and Sidney Lowe do WORST than Larry Smith at Alcorn or that bum at Southern? 3 of those guys have produced NBA players and know Texas inside and out.

Man, I thought I had it bad about researching a situation. lol skyy, I really admire how you're in the know regarding certain matters and how you understand the WHOLE picture as it relates locally and afar.

My issue: I have YET to speak w/ a college coach who can spew this same research laden rhetoric (positive sense) @ a non-PWCU. :read: :read: :read: :read: You should be on someone's part-time staff as a metroplex liason/recruiter. :read:

Also, ASU set HBCU basketball back 50 years. 6 players on the floor doing an offense set...I was like what the heck was that. Ref waited until point guard brought the ball pass the half court line before blowing the whistle.

What was the deal with ASU double teaming the guy without the ball as the point guard drove past both defenders toward the basket.

ASU nutted up on the highest level.

It's not the first time that the 6 players on the court thing has happened so to say that it set HBCU's back is a foolish statement. It's happened in the NBA before and it's obvious that somebody didn't get the memo to come off the floor.
