Something that seems to be lost in the Legacy Bowl talk ....

We already know how MEAC Fans feel about the possibility of the Legacy Bowl. We also know that for the most part, their thoughts mean little when their wallets aren't getting the MEAC schools were they want to be. We have the same issue here as well. However, there is one thing that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere since this discussion got started ....

With the Legacy Bowl and subsequent removal of the SWAC Championship Game, if the SWAC Championship is in the ballots between Southern, Grambling, or Bama State, our next highest rated team SHOULD be eligible for the FCS Playoffs again.

Whether they would be selected is another issue, but at least those like Comegy and Frazier who have mentioned it would have that option if they are not involved in the SWAC Title race, but have at least seven wins over FCS teams.

Example: Southern is 9-1 before the BC. A win over Grambling would give them the title while 9-2 PVU would have to wait to see (if they are the Southern "1".). An 8-3 or 7-4 AAMU, TxSU, UAPB, J-State, etc. would at least be in contention for a FCS berth.

Somewhat Ironic: A game that would pull the MEAC Champion out of the playoffs and possibly push a second or third place SWAC team back in.

The committe would probably prefer a 2nd or 3rd team from the SWAC over anyone from the MEAC simply because of the draw. :emlaugh:

Nope...they would reward the MEAC for their years of devout loyalty to their policies. Kinda like an "attaboy" award for lifetime service.

Here's a hypothetical question or scenario.
Let’s say the SWAC/MEAC’s number 2 teams both get a at-large berth into the FCS playoff and one of them make it to the FCS Championship and win it.
How would it look that a conference champion is not a national champion but the second best team in that conference is the national champion?
I understand the money aspect of the Legacy Bowl, but that scenario that I mention above is the reason why I will not support the creation of the Legacy Bowl.

One of the main problems I see is that we don’t understand how to market our product. Yes recruiting good players and coaches help, but do we even do the basic Marketing 101? I live in Texas, JSU has my address, how come I have not received any info about season tickets?

JSU has a TV and Radio studio. We are not using these avenues to produce football spots for the upcoming football season. Why?

Also this will help students who are majoring in communications with the broadcasting careers. Killing two birds with one stone.

I just don't understand. :noidea:

Does the athletic department have your address? They would if you contacted them.

Your conference 2nd place/national champ scenario is a good wish... if it happens we'd all be celebrating too much to worry about "how it looks".

Oklahoma played for the BCS Championship one year when they didn't win their conference. I think the scenario you illustrated is the best of both worlds. We get paid and we have better consideration for the playoffs. Bottom line: if it don't make dollars it don't make sense.

And I'm tired of folks coming on here complaining about what their school don't do! Evidently you got the internet, so log your happy behind onto JSU website and get the info you need. If you think alumni should be better catered to, get involved with the booster club and make it happen.

Ask not what your alma mater can do for you, ask what you can do to help preserve her for future generations! :lecture:

There is more to marketing than just advertising. I don't think most of us understand this. A good marketing plan requires a budget...something that just about every single athletic program in the SWAC doesn't have. It is not as simple as some of you try to make it.

It's obvious some folks have never had to market a business or even a serious idea to anyone.

I asked this question in Undergrad. WJSU is a major wasted resource in my opinion. I think it could be come the voice of black citizens in the Jxn area. I would like to see them morph into a African American talk radio station and discuss issues significant to the black community in the area.

There's nothing new to that senario it has happen before and probably wil again and I'm sure the conf involved could care less how it looks.

If a second place SWAC or mEAC team won the FCS Championship, their system would be over as they know it.

Do yall really think the FCS will invite a 2nd place team from either of our conferences?

As far as automatic qualifiers go, it is against the rules of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). If you recall, that was at the heart of the TXST/UCA flap in the SLC where in the middle of the season, the conference declared UCA ineligible for the league title.

And the MEAC has sent multiple teams to the playoffs on four occasions since 1997, the most recent being 2003.

In fact, their last THREE wins in the postseason have come courtesy of an at-large team, including two during Florida A&M's run to the 1999 semifinals.

Hope you enjoyed your history lesson on the NCAA Division I Championships.

Not the same. The SWAC has no automatic qualifier, so this would not apply.

UCA knew good and hell well they weren't eligible for Southland titles at the time. They weren't fully out of the transition.

The bottom line in this discussion and the legacy discussion is $$$ and the economics of running an athletic program. That's why the SLC is imploding with members wanting to leave, some before they even play a football game and your employer moved to D-3. Since you work in the AD dept no need giving you a history lesson, just look at your own conference and place of employment.

Is that what that was? If you would have told me at the start of the post, maybe I would have read it more attentively. But now that I know...and since I don't really give a care (seriously) about the FCS tournament if a SWAC team isn't in it,
you really could have kept all that. Just keeping it 100 with you.

I'm really focusing my thoughts on how this Post Season Bowl game can be pulled off. We decided to move on from the playoff in 1999 when we created the SCG... Oh, that was a current event lesson on the SWAC since it seems to be your favorite course of discussion.
