I saw Audie Norris at the IHOP the other day. Them knees done had it toting that frame.
Yep. I almost forgot about him. He went on to JSU after Murrah. I grew up around the street from Kenny. Covington had him, Audie Norris, Slyvester Norris, Doc Shavers and I can't think of the other cat right now that played Forward. The Norris boys were from Jackson. Audie broke the backboard against Alcorn and they had to reschedule the finish of that game. LOL.
Yep. George was at Murrah when I was at Callaway. All of us grew up together.
Murrah had players like Ricky Short and Donnell Allen that you youngsters don't remember. Both of those guys could ball. They also had this player named Derrick Lindsey that was their Qb in football and went on to Ole Miss.
Jackson High Schools have always produced good ball players. Murrah probably has had the most over time. But Provine, Lanier, Wingfield, Forest Hill and Callaway have put some out there.
We had Lancaster Gordon, Eddie Archie, Aaron Brandon, Harry and Pat Kelly, Mark Coleman roll out of Jacktown. Not to mention Mr. Mean Larry Smith was from the crib too.
The SWAC used to get alot of these guys too. Strib, Whitney, Covington and like TBF said Moreland lived off some of these guys.
Hell PV recruited all 4 of my classmates that started at my HS in 84. Reginald Jones was Freshman of the year I believe back then.
I was AT that game... I remember big Audie tore it down and the officials and Coliseum folks huddled for awhile (trynna figure out what to do).

If this is the same Eddie Archie that went to Valley he's from Greenwood.
No, it is a different one. This Eddie Archie went to Callaway and lead us to the State Championship game against Michael Phelps of Vicksburg, which Vicksburg won. Aaron Brandon was on that same C'way team in 81. Archie, Brandon and Phelps who all were All-State players ended up playing for Whitney at Alcorn. Archie was considered on the best guards in the Nation. Just wasn't that great with his books. Kentucky was all over him to come up there. But dude just wasn't academic minded. But he shole could hoop his arse off. Phelps and Archie were the best 2 players in Mississippi their Sr. Year.
I've never heard of the Eddie Archie that went to Valley.
I saw the report on Archie's award the other day. Didn't get to hear if it was a verdict or settlement. I used to enjoy watching him play in high school. Just couldn't get past Monte Ellis and Lanier, tho. That would be Michael Archie of Greenwood who played at Valley. He was shot in the back after a Saturday night game while dancing at an off campus club. The gunshot caused him to be paralyzed from the waist down.BTW, he just won a civil suit in that case for 12 million dollars. He is also engaged to be married and working for the Social Security Admin. in Memphis..
Yeah, at one time Valley's whole starting 5 was from around the Jackson area

That was the same season Valley beat us in B'ham with .2 seconds on the clock in the tourney final. Beating them damn Devils ain't never been easy for us on that hardwood. I thought it would get easier once Strib left.Stan Speech(He is the coach at Jim Hill currently) was also in that crew.
I remember about 3-4 years ago in the AAC, Stan got the ball at the top of the key after a timeout with about 10 seconds to go in the game and took it to the hole and hit game winning shot in the lane at the buzzer. Another classic Valley-JSU battle. All the Valley fans went wild. Those Jackson guys would play their best when they came to the AAC.
