Wyclef responds to allegations of corruption

Do you think his charity is corrupt?

There is always an insinuation of misuse of funds whenever there is a crisis. It happened during 9/11, katrina, tsunami, etc. Do I think his organization is corrupt? No. Its was in existence WAY before this tragedy. Do I think folks try to "create" situations, Yes. Heck, how much money could he have gotten by now. Dang they just started the text to this number $10 donation last week. That money hasn't been funneled to the depository end, fees removed and over to his organization already, do you think? Even with the holiday, I ain't seeing where he's gotten all this extra moolah to steal. Enlighten me.
 



IMO, we never know what any charity do with all the money they collect. I will say that I took Wyclef at face value. Since the earthquake, I have donated to his charity. Along with UNICEF and the Red Cross. The immediate days after the tragedy, I watched CNN nonstop.
 
I think Wyclef said it best. He's been raising money and doing work for Haiti before it became popular. Funny that it was never and issues until now.
 
The criticism is based on the fact that his organization filed three years worth of tax documents/returns on the same day. Their were questions about the efficiency of his organization. However, Wyclef was only raising about $700k a year before this. After the quake, he raised over $2 million in two days.

filing multiple tax returns on the same day should not be a barometer for corruption. And how efficient are most nonprofits? I'd say they aren't very efficient at all from what I'm seeing. They seems to operate on the "let's just get the money out htere, we'll get to the paperwork later " mode. As far as the raising money--the NEED got greater so the funding got greater.

Trust me, I am with you. I was just saying what they were criticizing based on.
