When I was in the Jukebox, I used to think Southern's band was the main attraction, but now I see different. Even when we practiced, I found it odd that the football team practiced a lot less than we did, but this was back in 1983. We used to watch the team start their practices way before us and end their practices way after us. I know there might be some NCAA rule that states that teams can only practice so long, but it still seemed odd to me. It seemed like the band was more prepared for game day than the football team, which probably why I thought that we were main attraction. HBCU really needs to question their priorities.

There is and it has nothing to do with the HBCU's priorites other than not getting scholarships taken away.

YEP.
Back in the day, there was no rule for how long a BAND could practice.
There has alway's been rules for athletic teams on that.
Just the way it was everywhere..........Not just HBCU's.

Back then, it was not uncommon for the Boom to practice INSIDE on music for 2 hours, (6pm to 8pm), and then go hit the practice field.
And then you had sectionals after that.
There were many times we would start practice at 6pm and I would not leave the music hall til after 11pm back in the 1980's.

We were doing that in the 90's as well

Man, those band directors are slave drivers. They don't have ya'll best interest in mind. It's all about creating some type of sterling reputation among other band aficionados. That is why the band practices so long. :lol:

You can't ask a college football team involved in one of the most physical sports in the world to practice 5-6 hours on a day on the field in addition to film study and weight lifting. There won't be a team by the third game. Heck, NFL players only practice 2 hours a day on the field and those cats get paid.
