ULL Message board

...They clearly want to be more like SU.... Them folks on that board want something done NOW with their band because of SU.. Kinda like how SU did jsu in 99'.. Students begged for changed after what the S did.. and WALLAH..

Yes, they consensus is that the ULL fans want to be entertained. The ULL band WAS entertaining many years ago but they morphed.

Ugghh Crit, why you just didn't call this dude a dumbarse like he is..

How the fug your FOOT is going to come up to your KNEE!?!

:retard::retard::retard:

That idiot is clearly mad EVERYONE from his school wants his sorry arse band to take NOTES from the Jukebox...
Now, Jared, I would have let this go if it had been someone else. Since it is you, I decided to stick it to you just for the fun of it.

I'll be the section leader and you can be the crab.

Ten-hutt! Ten-hutt!
Now, you crabs think you know how to march. You are wrong!! There will be no walking in the Human Jukebox. You will march by lifting your knees in alternating fashion such that the ankle of the lifted foot is raised to the knee of the planted foot. The return of the foot to the ground will be executed with a thrust that powers the knee of the previously planted leg into the same motion as the one previously raised. This will occur whether you are marking time or traveling in any direction. Do you understand. Now, lift the left knee raising the left ankle to the right knee and keep it there until I get back. 1-2-3-LIFT!!!

You are not kidding, ULL's band was super sorry. They did not sound good at all. They had trumpet players cracking notes all throughout their fieldshow and in the stands during the game. Their baritones and trombones had horrible attacks and releases, and did they even have tubas? ULL sounded horrible in the stands playing ESPN and Respect. That little Spanish feature they did at halftime did not show a higher level of musicianship since all of the aforementioned things were coming from their band throughout the entire game. Their trumpet players were slopping all through those runs. Troy and LSU's bands are going to massacre their pathetic excuse for a band when they play. The only thing that sounded good from ULL was their Alma Mater and the National Anthem.

He is just mad that SU got a standing ovation during their show, and ULL got a little pity clap from their fans that actually decided to stay and watch their very boring, non-creative show and not go to the bathroom or concession stand.

If someone didn't respect them (Band Director) than they wouldn't be imitating them. they're just to stupid to realize that imitation is the strongest form of flattery.

As far as the band contributing to the attendance of course it does but not as nearly as people who come only to watch the band thinks.

The fact that their is a BOTB every year with two of top schools band and it draws at best 25,000 in a 69,000 sit arena with school out and the city jam pack with with over 6-8 times that amount for the occasion show be clear evidence of that.

But we love our bands and they are a very intricate part of what makes our games special and the envy of the NCAA arena whether some admit it or not.

25,000? Try again, there were way more than 25,000 last year at the BOTB. It was probably closer to 40,000 if not more. I think they announced it was 45,000 last year at the BOTB last year. I am not 100% on this since I was in the middle of a battle. Half of the Superdome is packed from the floor all the way up to the rafters from endzone to endzone.

Heck, even if only 25,000 show up, that is equal to a capacity crowd at 90% of the SWAC football stadiums, just to see 2 bands.

How many SWAC ADs pray they can average 25K although like you said that BOTB is more in the range of 35-45k maybe a bit more...

And that had nothing to do with the greeks shows at all.....right?

OK if you say so, I wouldn't know I wasn't there and haven't been since ....hmm 06...I think. So i couldn't verify either count.

BTW I didn't realize they distinguish between the two crowds since they all come in at one time

After reading some of the comments on ULL board concerning their band, fans and alums of HBCU should be doing the exact same thing concerning their athletic programs, particularly football.

Screw the band. I would rather them be impressed with the football team.

As I said many, many times on this site. Black college football and Black college band are on the same coin. You can't have one without the other;they are inseparable. It's a tradition that we should be proud of.

Great job "Jukebox"

The greeks have VERY little to do withthat crowd.. Matter of fact when I was coming up, the greeks went on last. and they use to perform to an empty stadium..... That why they switched it around to put the greeks first.

I'm surprised you find it hard to believe those large crowds come to see SU and gsu perform... Especially if you were at SU when the football team wasn't really hitting on much and the BAND was what attracted most of the out of state folks to the school.... SU band has carried the schools banner for a long time brah and you know this...:shame:

Yes, he does sound bitter. If the Jukes just keep on being the Jukes, that will help make him better and not bitter.

As for my marching, those days are long over. I stroll down the parade routes now or sometimes ride in the golf cart. I like it much better this way.

Hey it is what it is......Some of our fans come to see the band. They are a significant part of the BCF experience period. However, in the final analysis, if we are winning that trumps everything and the crowds become even larger....

So if the band never exists, HBCU football would stop existing?

Your band can't be on the same level as the football team. It should never be on the same level. Hell, it should not be in the same zip code. I respect those kids in the band. I really do, but heck, those 100 musicians should not be the the main attraction at football games.

You think the folks at USC or Notre Dame or LSU say you can't have football without the band?

Sure, the band can be part of the game, but not on the same level as the athletes. (Damn, I sound like a White Sox fan talking about Wrigley Field).

This thread has taken a turn to the asanine.

There's a reason the BC Battle of the Bands/Step Show and the Honda BOTB in ATL draws so much more than average HBCU home games— and nobody says it....IT'S A FRIGGIN' ANNUAL EVENT (YANNO, LIKE ONCE A YEAR).

The bands bring in a lot of casual football fans but I have never bought into that crap about the fan base not comming to "THE GAME" itself and I was in the Sonic Boom acting a fool.

If that was the case, Jackson State would not have been playing in a big ass empty Memorial Stadium when Bell was coach.
The Sonic Boom didn't go down during that time.
The TEAM did and that's what caused the fans to stay home.

Team wins, stadiums are full of the hardcore fans and the casual sports fans that will come for the overall experience of HBCU games.

um, you used to be in the Boom? Were you a DM?

Kendrick...you, like others with your views, that go to HBCU's kill me. I don't see how yall don't understand that the bands ARE important in the HBCU atmosphere. Like someone said...you'd think the pro(for)-football guys would cherish that a little more than they do, even if they DO only go to the games to watch the games.

Ask folks from SU back when the football team wasn't kick'n arse who was keeping the atmosphere right. He!!, ASK PV. 0-80...so, who da he!1 was PV folks going to see? I saw first hand how the Storm kept folks coming to PV games, knowing good'n well that that football team wasn't hitt'n on isht. No, not 15 and 20k per game...but, a da*n good turnouts for an 0-80 team.

Like I tell bandheads on other boards...we, as bandheads, have to get our concieded heads out our arses and realize that the band is there for the football team. But, on that same tab, you can't knock what an HBCU band does for the general game atmosphere. Esp, when you get into the elite bands. The SU's, the Hundreds and the JSt's of the world are boosting those football numbers, whether you like it or not. Without them, you're not getting those extra numbers the walk-arounders, the "ain't got isht to do on a Saturday", and those folks that "wanna go see a D-1AA game (:retard: )" are bringing.

Ps- Yall talk about the Classic BOTB crowds. If you really wanted to go there...out of those 40k...atleast, 25k are there for the Jukebox...and, I KNOW Im being generous with that number. Just think if the "S" had a FAMn, a JSt. there to go against, instead of Grum. Heck, we could probably get that 60k just to see two bands, with no football team in sight.

I can agree with that.
