Gospel Concert Venues: A casino?

A few weeks ago my family and I were down in the Gulport-Biloxi area for a wedding. It had been years since I had been down that way. While driving around Biloxi, I noticed that Yolanda Adams was scheduled to perform at one of the local casinos. I paused for a moment and thought hmmm...a gospel singer performing at a casino.

Question: Does performing at a casino cross a line for Yolanda Adams/any gospel singer or is a casino as good a place as any to conduct his/her ministry...if that is what he/she is doing?
 
I see no problem with venues if the music/effort is genuine. My current pastor used to preach at a strip club on Sundays. He said that is where the people needed it the most.
 



The difference between that and what SOG posted about is that your pastor is trying to encourage people to leave while an gospel artist is trying to get people to come. To me, it's a conflict of interest.
 
We must take ministry to where it is most needed. A casino would be high on the list. I mean someone who came to the casino to practice sinful habits might actually find their way into the concert and GET SAVED!!!!
 
Actually, more of the opposite would happen... Someone is coming to hear Adams and then ends up on the slots. If a casino books an act, it's to get people there and they have numbers to back it up. Trust...

I agree it's a chance to bring in people who would not normally go to a casino. New money.

The people who come to a gospel concert at a casino and find themselves in the gambling rooms would be in those rooms even if there was no gospel concert at the site. The people who don't ordinarily gamble enjoy the concert, possibly dinner, and are on their merry way. We witness these things on gospel cruises all the time.

But, isn't the goal "...to lead us not into temptation..."

We are talking about a gospel artist who is getting paid under the premise that they will bring more people to a place to gamble. Sounds like competing interests to me.

The casino makes its biggest profits off gamble; that is for sure. But, what they really want you to do is spend money...on food, parking, rooms, entertainment, excursions, etc. They don't care all that much about where you spend it, they just want the money trafficking through. They want a chance at your REPEAT business.

I could go to 500 concerts at the casino and it would not be a temptation to gamble. That would not be true for everyone.
 
I agree with Dac. If a person wants to gamble they are gonna gamble, whether there's a concert at a casino or not.

I go to casinos to eat and I don't gamble. I like the buffets.
