Dr. Liddell Resigned??????

I think the person who is about to be named interim will hold the position for a year until the next person is brought BACK lol. (same thing as when Dowell Taylor left). But when you have a PROGRAM something like this doesn't effect much (in a bad way). The band will keep rolling. We can all rest assured that Dollye Robinson has to make the decision on this (the new director) and that decision couldn't be placed in more capable hands. She is well aware of the tradition and legacy of the Sonic Boom and knows exactly what traits the next director must possess. It'll be an interesting process. I can't wait to see what names are about to surface over the next few months. lol.

I heard about this news last night, this might not be good....Especially if 1. Ronaldo Murray is named the head band director first off he is from Alcorn and second he his from Alcorn! 2. if our stupid administration finds somebody outside the program which will not be a good idea......the only way everybody will be happy is if Dowell comes back (which might happen if he puts his name in for it) or if Magrudar comes back (which would be great but I doubt that happens unless he gets a bigger pay than he is gettin at WSSU and is given full control of the music dept) so l have no clue whats going to happen!!!!!!11:noidea:

JSU is better than most bands when concerning the sound of the band being more consistant... But Drilling, JSU ranks with the worse... Alcorn is a better drilling band than JSU.

No they are not... Alcorn drilling is horrid. If you want to see a slow ragged drill, watch an Alcorn clip. In fact, post a clip of a good Alcorn drill so I can see one. The last decent drill I saw from Alcorn was back in 1999 and they walked the whole time. I do think that they are comparable with JSU with the level of difficulty of the drill but they don't come close in execution. I honestly can't speak on UAPB but the BOOM drills better than every other band in the SWAC other than SU and they drill better than every band in the MEAC. FAMU tops us in creativity by a landslide but their execution is poor. However, I can even live with ranking them ahead of JSU in the drilling department based on the fact that they change their drills up a lot so that can affect execution. .....but JSU is no worse than the 4th or 5th band when it comes to drilling (only behind only TNSTate, SU, FAMU and possibly UAPB).

You are right, UAPB drills better as well.... The thing with Alcorn... you have to cover your ears to enjoy their drills.. the sound will make you think they ain't doing isht.. but they are a better drilling band than JSU at this point..

Drilling in my honest opinion Alcorn isnt that bad.....in my order I would put them third behind us and SU...Me being non-biased But TnSU and FAMU in drilling hell noooooooooooooooooooooooo they are horrible!

Bro, i seriously doubt it will be Murray.....he said he doesn't want a band like the Boom cuz its already a legendary band......

he wants to build up a band program under his tenure

If you are looking for a Director of Bands, it will have to be someone with a PhD. That narrows the field considerably. It could be that the roles get divided anyway. I will trust Dollye M.E. Robinson to decide that.

I am going to say this now: There is nothing wrong with bringing in someone from the outside as long as they understand and embrace the staunch traditions. Besides, it might be fun to shake things up a bit.

This dummy is comparing Alcorn to SU... You really want some traits of Alcorn? The SU influence did you all wonders... We'll just have to see what the Alcorn influence do for yall...

P.S.

Who the F is P.I.?!?!? Paul Idams?

Thats different P.I is a musical genius and Pop knew drills and formation like he invented them himself...Murray jus wants the band to crank up all the time..and I havent really ever seen him do anything really...besides curse somebody out! he is a kool dude but jus cant see him as leader of the ship!

Even when Dr. Magrudar was there he did alot of things on his won plus he contributed to the band with his music and his everyday leadership..I didnt see that with Murray but maybe i could be wrong but I dont see him to lead the ship!

Well Jared if you would get out of our convo you wouldn't have to ask who the heyal somebody is!!

P.I. is Paul I. Adams...and he was commonly called P.I. by his students in the Boom at JSU.

Key word: JSU

The Alcorn and SU comparison was a joke...between me and my fellow Jacksonians. Once again...you dipping in the convo.

Be cool....

I don't prefer FAMU but I do have to give them props for creativity. To ME, that is where JSU lacks. I agree too...Alcorn's drilling may be okay but only based on level of difficulty. They don't stand in place like most bands but their lines are far worse than JSUs. One of the worst drills I ever seen was from Alcorn in 1994 at the first CCC.

But to ME, TNState combines creativity and execution making them the best at drilling.

I understand that too but I would rather have someone who doesnt have a PhD and knows the band history inside and out than someone who knows nothing about the Boom....

And bringin in folks from outside the Boom that I know of has only worked well with...Adams and Pops D...

02 we had assistant bd from Bama State come in he lasted a year
04 we had assistant bd from Gram come in that didnt worked
We Dr. Ware who was pretty good I think he came from Alcorn but he was one of the exceptions...

Thats probably the reason I am really apprehensive about bring in folks from the outside because they end up tryin to revert back to the things they did at their schools and we dont need that!

I respect ur opinion fam but TNState shows suck arse.... I would say FAMU has it hands down on creativity but they dont drill they jus play follow the leader!
