LSU to Play In-State FCS Programs?

Well, one of your ADs wanted to SU to play McNeese, NWState, Nicholls and FAMU as OOC opponents for SU and Pete said he would quit if they gave him that schedule. I do believe that LA has too many 1-AA programs in the state for you all not to play each other on a regular basis.

So doesn't that prove my point even though you're turning it into a pete issue by quoting something that was` said years ago?.

Pete was saying that if we play them y'all going to expect me to beat all those teams but y'all not going give me resources to beat them so I might as well quit because y'all going to fire me anyway if I lose those games. Now he doesn't have that excuse but 6-8 years ago it was a valid argument in my opinion.

I know but whether it was or wasn't what pete said has nothing to do with the fact that in state schools have a history of not playing each other because ignorant louisiana politics so lets not let others twist this topic into what pete said.

My opinion (regarding Pete) is that he was using that as a means to get facility upgrades and for that I don't blame him... Those schools recruiting budget was much higher and at the time they had an edge in facilities as well so from that standpoint, I have to give Pete a pass. However, they should have come back at him with..."Ok, Coach but we're gonna put a freeze on coach's salaries and invest into the infrastructure" since their coaches make considerably less than what you're getting paid.

I agree, to be real the PWC in the state feel there in state recruiting will be destroyed if they lose to a SU or GSU so many of them will not take a chance to play us especially those north Louisiana PWC they won't play SU in any sport.

Exactly

I agree to an extent... especially LaTech who looks down their nose at ULM and won't do a home and home. They will schedule home and home against ULL, Arkansas State and others from the SunBelt, but wants to 'separate" themselves from ULM and the rest of the in-state lower divisions and play them only as a LaTech home game.

Don't get me started on Tech...:vomit:

Don't be fooled that pendulum swings both ways.

Does anyone (TT) know if there's anything in the By-Laws that prohibits Sunbelt Conference teams from playing at a FCS school? I'd like to see my GMen put their hands on the ground across from any of them in a home and home 3rd game of the season hook up. Man, I'd love for Grambling to start going down to Miami and playing Florida Int'l and Florida Atlantic and all them folk. We'd steal us some players from over there too.

I personally don't think it would be bad for BR. From a logistical stand point and an in-state/same city stand point, I think it would be great.

I think that idiot-of-a-Board Chair-we-have wants to see this happen. Even though we wouldn't be getting D-1 cupcake money, I'd like to see it happen.

Heck, FAMU plays FSU and Miami every once in a while, ya'll will be playing MSU, heck, why not?

Co-Sign. A game between SU and LSU would not generate a war in the city. Everyone here knows what the outcome of the game will be. Folks would stay to see the Jukebox at the half and then the stadium would be empty by the start of the 4th Qtr.

LSU fans are rowdy with conference schools like Florida, Auburn and Bama. They don't get rowdy with Tulane or ULL fans. They'd treat SU fan the same way. Any Jag fan going into the stadium talking shit is crazy and just asking for trouble.

Just like they did App State.

it works both ways cat... there will be "pockets" of trouble makers wearing the purple and gold as well. some azzhole will start off acting like he mr friendly and then get out of line.

LSU fans are famous for doing really bad things to their opponents fans during the game. They have a tradition of throwing cold drinks full of ice, among other things on the vistiors section. You know what would happen if they did that to a SU fan. Lets not talk about the arguements that would go on in offices all around BR. WWBR(World War BR).

so....sports are being shut down b/c of a lack of funding and nobody wants to play lsu and get that 400k b/c their might be some arguments at the office about the 69-3 beating they'd put down? b/c some ignorant fan would get drunk and throw ice on someone? O...K......:retard: if that makes sense to yall.

Sports are being shut down because our AD doesnt know how to fundraise, or get corporate sponsers, like Floyd Kerr did.

Thats not true. SU's budget is larger than all Louisiana FCS teams.

Are you talking overall budget or recruiting budget? I know our salaries are higher but I'm talking about monies earmarked for recruiting.

Now if that wasn't the case, then maybe Pete was just tired of losing to those folk and took that as an out.

Considering that some SBC schools struggle to meet the Div I quota for a two year period (which I believe is 11 home games), they would not go to FCS. Good thing for them, the SBC is growing with WKU this year and USA in a few years.

I know the SBC has a rule in place, but I think there are rules for all the mid-major conferences that they are not allowed to travel to FCS. Army traveling to FCS is the only one as of late and only one scheduled for the future, I believe.

FIU does not do FCS at all and do not even do guarantee games anymore, starting in '09 or '10. They only want home-and-homes or 2-for-1. FAU has not played an FCS since wrapping up their home-and-home commitments from the transition.

No, I believe Ark State is in the Sun Belt -- damn how I hate thinkin of that game they killed us in.

Recruiting - yes. Not by much. Overall, no. In fact, outside of Nicholls - Southern's revenue is below all the others, despite a bigger budget than all, but NWST. Not going to bother with Nicholls. This all comes from 2007-08 budget counts from http://ope.ed.gov/

Southern
Recruiting: $195k
Budget: $6.8M (revenue, same)

Southeastern
Recruiting: $161k
Budget: $6.5M (however revenues are $7.4M)

Northwestern State
Recruiting: $187k
Budget: $7.6M (revenues, $7.9M)

McNeese
Recruiting: $178k
Budget: $6.7M (revenues $6.9M)

Well if they can't/won't come to Grambling (ULL, ULM, LaTech, etc) then I'm not for playing them unless they agree to come to Shreveport (with it being our home game) or for the sum of $300k minimum.

On a side note... recently, Grambling was talking with UTEP about a 2 for 1 deal (according to a reliable TSPN source).

You won't get $300k from any of those schools.

McNeese did not get that kind of money from ULL and everyone knew they'd put a crowd in there that had not been seen since the last time those foes met. Non-BCS conference teams, you can't expect more than $150, 200k.

Well screw them... if they can't come with more money or give us a return game (either in Gram or Shreveport) then they can eat shiiit outta a can to keep from starving. Grambling has 4 non-conference slots on our schedule... we can do home and home with two SLC and MEAC schools of interest and do quite well.
