Baseball - 4/21 - 4/22

Dude, you get your chance the regular season to show what you have. Mediocre teams with records of 8-26 shouldn't be given a second chance.
That same excitement at the banquets should first be displayed during the regular season.
If a team can't cut it then, why reward them at the possible expense of actually having your best team sitting at home while a sub .500 school represents your conference, a conference that's already behind the eight ball to begin with? It makes little to no sense at all, especially if that sub .500 school can't beat any decent out of conference schools during the regular season.

We are not going to get each other to agree -- thanks for your opinion.

wow, what if the NCAA adopted that same type attitude in regards to its bball tourney. (not sure how we have fared in baseball, and we all know how we fared in football)
Looking at the SWAC's OOC record and our record in the tournament, we would NEVER be invited.

The SWAC should be one of the LAST conferences to talk about excluding teams from a tournament.

and again if your "best team" can't beat a "sub .500 school that "can't beat any decent out of conference schools during the regular season" then what does that say about your "best team"?

HELL YEAH!!!! Listen to how hypocrital some of you sound. What if Southern wasn't currently seeded #1 in the West right now?

What if the Jaguars were tied for 3rd in the West and currently on a 6 game winning streak and got some key players back from injury or a pitcher or hitter finally hit his "groove" and the Jags are red hot going into the conference tourney but according to some of you THEY SHOULD NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO EVEN GO TO THE TOURNAMENT. OH YEAH, BY THE WAY THE TOURNAMENT IS IN BATON ROUGE TOO!

Some of you need to truly think before you react to a thread.

I'm all for keeping it the way it is. Why JROCK you may ask? :emlaugh:
Well, the NCAA regionals is all about pitching depth. If one cannot win the SWAC tourney, it tells me two things. You are not the hottest team and your pitching depth is suspect. A number 1 conference seed IMHO should throw their #3 pitcher, #2 pitcher and finally #1 pitcher in the conference tourney. In essence your #1 team pitching should get stronger as the tourney progress. Now one may want to re-think that pitching strategy in the regionals.......

(I know some of you all are going to throw darts at JROCK........so what!) :emlaugh:

Dont count us out to early we got a big weekend and home and dont be surprised at a Valley choke plus they got abut 3 make up games so we may or may not be on the same side. Lets just see how the season plays out

Keep waiting on us to choke. You are going to get the same results as you did last wknd. in softball. 3-0 on your own field. Have a good day Partna

I like the way the format is. I do believe if your team finished last in the division, then you shouldn't make the tourney. Also, with the money crunch our schools are in, do we have the funds to have a 10 team tourney? We don't in basketball, then we don't in baseball. Plus, our OOC record in baseball is annually better than our OOC record in basketball or football.

FYI, if SU was last then they don't deserve to go.

Lets take last season for example. No disrespect to tSU but no way in hell would tSU have beaten SU or PVU best 2 out of 3 last season. tSU got lucky being on the opposite side. Im SUre most tSU baseball folk will admit to that. Anybody can win 1 game. In baseball to tell who is the best you need to play a series. If the championship game was the way it use to be I wouldnt have a problem with it. But if team A comes out of its bracket with no lost, and team B has 1 lost, team B shouldnt be able to win the tournament by winning a winner take all game.

The top three teams in each division is enough. That's six teams right there. There's no need for a team that's lost 20 games to even be considered. That's too much like welfare.

Thanks TSU for putting HBU's pitching in an even bigger bind than they would have been...

Kats are up 19-2 in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, two are on. Kats have already racked up 20 hits. SHSU starting catcher was pulled after going 3-for-3 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs. Already had an eight run and nine run inning.

I'm just asking that you please don't be a front runner when we bring you back to reality. It will be ok you will be able to post and all that other good stuff don't make me have to put out a apb on you come Monday remember you are still the Valley

If you only knew the HELL some coaches had with that scenario!!!:whine::whine::whine:

1st - coaches were complaining that the 1st place teams had an advantage when they got a bye (SU had a bye in 2000 and 2005)

then - coaches complained how the 1st place team would play the loser of game "x" in round 2 while the other 1st place team would play the winner of game "x" in round 2.(funny thing is, this worked in 2001 and 2002....seemed to work in 2006 but got complaints in 2007)

The bottom line is there is enough teams in the tourney now to remove an advantage for any team. In order to win, you need to win your bracket then the championship game. No need to complain if team in bracket A has 1 loss and makes the championship game. No one from tSU would (or even should) have complained last year if pv woulda won. We don't have a best 2 out of 3 in basketball. Finish in the top 4 of your division, make the tourney, and win or go home.

Exactly. Plus there is a better level of baseball with only 4 teams. That 03 tourny had very high level of play the entire weekend.
Do you recall the scores from that weekend? I think the only game where both teams didnt score over 10 was the game b/w j-state and su. Please post them again for my recollection.

I agree with JayRob....six teams in the tourney is enough. Seriously. Some teams are so bad, like AlaState, they should be glad the season is over.

4/22 SCHEDULE

UAM at AAMU
UAPB at UCA
GSU at Valley
LeMoyne-Owen at J-State (DH)
PV at TX A&M (father vs. son):D:lol:
SLU at SU

They were glad 3 years ago only to find out J-state was disqualified from the tourney and had to come to Jackson and represent for yall! (you're welcome MH:lol:)

Can we just select you for swac baseball spokesmen. The six team tournament was the worst idea. You had the same coaches fighting for byes one year the next no byes when they weren't a number 1 seed. There is only one coach who wants the 4 team tourney. The 8 team touranment looks better on a national leve hell its the only smart baseball decision the conference has ever made. What how confusing the office is going to make these makeup games in the next week or so. Jaguar94 what ever you post I 2nd it

Can't underestimate any team in the West! It seems like Grambling plays better in the middle of the week and on the weekends as of late! Good win!
