Windows won't start....(help needed)

I keep getting this error.....

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt"

This is the file........\windows\System32\config\system

Start setup using original setup or CD-Rom.

I tried putting in the CD-Rom but I still keep getting this.

I think you have to rebuild your system.

Try restroring to an earlier system point and see if it boots up.

Go into your BIOS and change the boot sequence. Set CD-ROM as the first priority. You can also do a check disk and fix some of your problems...

get a xp boot disk and boot from it. go into the recovery console and run a check disk repair

 chkdsk /r
