Peppers trade list only has 4 teams

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Julius Peppers still wants out of Carolina, but he'll only agree to be traded to four teams, further complicating the Panthers' efforts to get compensation for the four-time Pro Bowl defensive end.

On the eve of the deadline to place the franchise tag on Peppers, a person close to the player said Wednesday that the impending free agent wants to play for Dallas or three other unnamed teams, two of them in the NFC.

The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because the list wasn't supposed to be made public, said Peppers wouldn't agree on a trade to any other team, which would limit the Panthers since Peppers would likely have to sign a new contract with that new team before a trade could be executed.

Rest story

First Ray Lewis wants in, now Julius Peppers. LOL. I don't blame them. The Cowboys are THE FRANCHISE to play for.

Let's see . . . we could trade Marcus Spears (garbage), Brady James (garbage), Roy Williams (hot garbage), and Terrance Newman (overrated garbage) for Peppers, sign Ray Lewis and then switch to a 4-3 defense. Ware and Peppers would be hellacious and Ray would be free to roam.

Dude I am a true fan, but what makes you think they'd trade Peppers for our garbage.

But why Dallas? I understand the Tax benefits of playing in TX, FL, and TN, but with all the turmoil in Dallas, why play for the Boys? It wouldn't be on my list of teams that I want to go to....

Peppers wants out of the Panthers so he can go play in a 3-4 Defense. He stated that awhile back. Ray Lewis has the same criteria as well. He plays in a 3-4 now. So they would not like playing in a 4-3. That's why the Cowboys are on the list.

3-4 Defense is why. Only a few teams have it. Ray Lewis aint about to change defensive schemes this late in his career. Peppers has said he wants to play in a 3-4 attacking defense.

Its popular now since Pittsburgh and the Ravens make it work. Don't be shocked if Parcells and Miami get in the mix.

I look for Ray to end up in New York with his old coach Ryan, if Baltimore don't resign him.

These guys have egos and want to to be seen................Dallas is the place where America follows on a daily basis....someone told me they have a different media set-up than every NFL team also

Tony Romo's career is something like Delohmme at Carolina...came out of nowhere to be something....

however, Romo quarterbacks Dallas and became what he is due to who he plays for....If he plays in Seattle, who knows him like we do now?

With a player like Demarcus Ware and a Julius Peppers, Dallas could use variations of both defenses depending on personnel, opponent and game situation. With Dom Capers taking over in Green Bay as defensive coordinator, the Packers will be running variations of both defenses this year. It basically gives a defensive coordinator flexibility in lining up in and out of three and four man fronts and allowing linebackers to play in traditional positions or as defensive ends. This would benefit Ray Lewis in the scenario I mentioned above because Dallas does not have the beef on their d-line to keep offensive linemen off of a linebacker like the Ravens do. The Ravens have space eaters on their defensive line which allows Ray Lewis to roam free.

Ofcourse, this is just wishful thinking on my part but I don't think either of them would mind Dallas' "switch" to a 4-3 defense if they knew they would be doing what the Packers are going to be doing next season. Watch for the Packers to have one of the best defenses in the NFL.

Now why would someone want to play for a team that has not won a playoff game since the starting QB was 16?

Dallas has not team leaders at all on the current roster. That is what was the the downfall in 2008, combined with some key injuries. Having stars are cool, but if those stars do not play well together, the team is cooked.

When you really breakdown the roster, there are very few members of that Dallas team who has won anything. Tony Romo has not won a playoff game as a starter. T.O. played in a Super Bowl, but Philadelphia got there without him. Marion Barber is a good back, but not consistent. Roy Williams came from the Lions...enough said.

The defense has talent, but can't make plays in crunch time consistently to win games. The head coach has not been able to lead his teams over the hump.

There is not one on that team right now who you would consider a leader. I don't know if Peppers is that guy either.

You would come on here and post your usual hate. It's simple, really . . . . Ray Lewis and Julius Peppers would love to become players for the Dallas Cowboys, aka AMERICA's Team. Not with a lowly team like the Bears but the DALLAS COWBOYS. Can you feel it?

How can Dallas be America's Team when they don't have any characteristics of what the country stands for? I mean, America is a nation built on hardwork, dedication, sacrafice and success.

The Dallas Cowboys have been anything but that the last 13 years. Dallas represents what we as Americans don't like. Underachievers, slackers, can't handle the pressure, points fingers when things go wrong, spoiled and complainers.

I never have said one time that the Bears are or should be America's Team.

There is no such thing.

Not when 16 different teams have played in the Super Bowl this decade. There is no reason for fans to be bandwagon jumpers when all 32 teams have a legit shot at making the playoffs or winning the Super Bowl each season because of parity.

America's associates themselves with winners. Dallas has not been a winner in a long time. So how can they be America's Team?

Kendrick, you can question and debate and analyze it every which way from Sunday. When you finish, it won't change the FACT that the Cowboys is America's Team. The Cowboys are akin to the Yankees and Celtics, even though they don't have the most Super Bowls. The 'Boys are going through some tough times, but the cream will always rise. Reel off another 3-4 rings in the next few years and further solidify their position and distance themselves from the rest. You hate it. But your hate won't change a thing. I hate Notre Dame, but I know they are on a level no other college football team is on.

I do not hate the Dallas Cowboys at all. I think there is no such thing as an America's Team in this current NFL. I got into a big debate with Steelers fans after the Super Bowl over this same issue. Pittsburgh is not America's Team either. There can't be an America's Team when from year to year we do not know who is going to the playoffs or Super Bowl.

As for the Yankees, they are the most revered American sports franchise in the world and behind them are the Chicago Cubs. But those two franchises do not fashion themselves as America's Team.

Notre Dame is popular for what they used to be, and not what they have been since Lou Holtz left the sidelines.

As for the Celtics, nobody knew they had a basketball team before making a run to the championship last season. The NBA, unlike MLB and the NFL, do not force certain teams down the throats of fans with national TV games. While Boston is a big market team, when they sucked they were not on national TV. The same thing happened to the Bulls after Jordan left.

The Lakers are able to sustain their level of popularity is because there always has been a star on the squad, and they have been in the postseason almost every season.

Bottom line, there is no America's Team. Sure, some teams might be more popular than others, but not to the point where fanbases can claim their squad represents the United States.
